PARIS — The wraps have come off the highly anticipated Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak car that WRC champion Sebastien Loeb will pilot in the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

The car is a modified Peugeot 208 with a rear wing from the Le Mans 24 Hours-winning Peugeot 908.

Peugeot said performance specifications and final livery will be revealed soon. Whether it will retain the black exterior apparently is undecided.

"Its proportions are very different to those of the production 208," said Michael Trouve, who is in charge of silhouette design at Peugeot's Styling Center, in a statement. "This difference gives it an almost beast-like appearance."

He describes the racecar as an "extreme take" on the 208.

Peugeot is making a return to the classic American race after victories at Pikes Peak in 1988 and 1989.

The 208 T16 Pikes Peak will compete in the event's "Unlimited" class.

Edmunds says: Peugeot says its team hasn't had much time to work on the car's design because the project wasn't signed off on until February, which may account for the relative lack of information at this point.
