AUBURN HILLS, Michigan The 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat muscle car starts at $60,990, including a $995 destination charge and $2,100 gas-guzzler tax, Chrysler said on Wednesday.

The Challenger SRT Hellcat arrives at dealerships in the third quarter of 2014.

It competes with the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.

Chrysler announced full pricing on all 2015 Challenger models. The Challenger features a standard thin film transistor reconfigurable gauge cluster and new 5-inch or 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreens. Options include forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control and rain-sensitive windshield wipers.

The base 2015 Dodge Challenger SXT with the 305-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine starts at $27,990, including shipping, and the Challenger SXT Plus starts at $30,990.

Dodge's 2015 Challenger R/T with the 375-hp 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine starts at $32,490, including shipping.

Next up, the 2015 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack with the 485-hp 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine starts at $39,490.

Lastly, the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT 392 with the 485-hp 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine starts at $46,990, including shipping and a $1,000 gas-guzzler tax.

Edmunds says: Chrysler is calling the Challenger SRT Hellcat "the most affordable 700+ horsepower car in America." The good news for consumers is that the Hellcat is priced competitively against its rivals.

  • The SRT Hellcat looks like it will be the ultimate muscle car. I am thinking that if Chrysler wants to gain some additional credibility among performance enthusiasts, it might consider taking the Hellcat to the Nurburgring to see what it can do. I know the Hellcat is more muscle car than sports car, but I would still be interested in knowing what it might do on this demanding track.
