WASHINGTON — Nissan North America is recalling 183 2014 Nissan Titan King Cab and Crew Cab pickup trucks due to an incorrect label that may lead to overloading and tire failure, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"In the affected vehicles, the Tire and Loading Information label overstates the maximum load and passenger-carrying capacity of the vehicle," said NHTSA in its summary of the problem. "If the vehicle is loaded to the capacity stated on the incorrect label, and the tire load capacity is exceeded, the vehicle may experience structural damage to the tire. If this occurs, this may lead to tire failure, which could increase the risk of a crash."
The affected vehicles were built from August 27, 2013 through November 13, 2013.
Nissan will notify owners and provide them with a correct label to install. The recall is expected to begin on January 21. Owners can contact Nissan at (800) 647-7261.
Edmunds says: If you own a 2014 Nissan Titan, you can either wait to hear from the company and install the correct label yourself or stop in at your dealership for help.
