MUNICH, Germany — The 2014 Mini Cooper is set for a debut on November 18, followed by simultaneous reveals at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Show and 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The new Mini Cooper will go on sale in the first quarter of 2014. The Mini plant in Oxford, England will host the world premiere of the car.

"Completely new engines and chassis technologies, Mini Connected innovations and refined premium quality will make it the new benchmark for driving enjoyment in its class," said Mini in a statement on Wednesday.

Mini previewed the 2014 Mini Cooper's design with its Mini Vision concept.

The Mini Vision is a virtual concept car hinting strongly at the shape of the next-generation 2014 hatchback. The concept features an attempt to simplify the car's panels and nose. It will also feature a retro hexagonal grille.

The November 18 date is described as a nod to Sir Alec Issigonis, the creator of the Mini. Mini said the date marks "107 years to the day since the birth of the man who started an automobile revolution."

Edmunds says: The excitement begins to ramp up for the unveiling of the 2014 Mini Cooper.
