PARIS — The all-new 2014 BMW i3 electric car, which is slated to make its world debut in New York in late July, won't change much from the concept versions, judging from patent drawings leaked in the French magazine L'Automobile.

The public will get its first glimpse of the production-ready i3 in September at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show. The car is scheduled to go on sale in Europe later this year and in the U.S. in early 2014.

L'Automobile compared patent drawings of the car with actual images of the i3 concept, noting the close similarities between the two. It also pointed out changes to the headlights, the side glass and the tailgate, as well as longer rear doors and a shorter wheelbase.

The magazine said the European version of the all-electric i3 will be priced from more than $50,000 and eventually will be offered in a range-extended hybrid version.

Edmunds says: The new i3 looks like it has more in common stylistically with the Mini than with any other BMW.

I don't think BMW should worry about anybody stealing this "design". Save your Money BMW and don't bother with the patent

Interesting car. It rides on 185 width tires, but alledgedly retains all of the driving dynamics that you'd expect from a BMW because it is extremely lightweight.
