NORTH HILLS, California — A 1,000-horsepower Galpin Ford GTR1 will debut at the Quail Lodge during the annual Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance weekend. The supercar will be unveiled on August 16 at The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering, before moving to the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance concept lawn on August 18.

The GTR1 is based on the Ford GT "as an interpretation of what the GT may have looked and performed like had it continued its evolution," according to Galpin Auto Sports.

Pricing has not been announced. The customizer says production of the GTR1 will be "extremely limited."

The supercar is equipped with a twin-turbocharged 5.4-liter V8 engine with a top speed of 225 mph.

It features a handcrafted all-aluminum body that is widened 5 inches compared to the Ford GT. Other details include 20-inch forged aluminum knock-off wheels, Pirelli P Zero tires, six-piston brakes with full carbon rotors, jeweled headlamps and taillights and carbon-fiber accents.

The cabin gets a machined aluminum instrument cluster, a McIntosh sound system and leather-trimmed seats, dashboard, door panels and headliner.

Buyers get a choice of aluminum or carbon-fiber bodies.

Galpin says a full list of technical specifications, pricing and photos will be available following the car's launch in August.

Edmunds says: An imaginative take on a now-defunct Detroit supercar.

A dealership making a car? Is this a first? I am skeptical.

    Looks exciting so far!

  • I agree with henry4hire. Even with their long standing car customizing business (as seen on pimp my ride) it is quite a stretch. And no mention of what will be underpinning the car as I'm sure they aren't building a completely custom from the ground up car. And it is going to be 5" wider than the already nearly 77" wide GT?
