Since writing my review in May 2006, I have replaced the ABS module again, the rear shocks, and the O2 sensor. The AC and thermostat both stopped working in 2009. I replaced the power windows around the same time because one day, they just "fell" into the doors. In 2008, the key in the ignition wouldn't turn anymore and had to be replaced. In order to make sure I'd just have 1 car key, all the door locks had to be replaced as well to make it uniform. I can't even describe all the sounds coming from behind the dash of "loose parts" jiggling around. Given that after 14 years, there are only 112k miles, this car has had a ton of issues.

Best Car I've Ever Owned

I bought this car after selling a '94 850 turbo wagon that I had a love/hate relationship with. I got rid of it due to expense of taking it to the dealer, but I missed the power, comfort and the "fun factor." So, after owning a small Japanese car until it was paid off I began looking for a Volvo Sedan. I must say that I did a lot of research before purchasing this car. This car, when you do your own repairs is not a drain at all. I had the ECU upgraded and also beefed up the suspension with IPD swaybars. It's amazing!

I traded in my 1995 Volvo for 1998 s70 10 years ago. The only reason I gave up the 95 was that the AC stopped functioning and would be a costly repair. I was HaPpY with that cars dependability and it had few mechanical issues but wasn’t worth driving without AC. The 98 had 115k at purchase and now has 334k. I have been thrilled with this car. Super sturdy and dependable. There have not been major issues. I have been lucky to have a mechanic who knows Volvo’s inside and out and has maintained it for its life with me. The reason for our separation is that a timing belt is due in its near future and that requires a lot of labor and will be on the costly side. So I also will part with this VOLVO with no complaints just thanks. I have absolutely loved the 2 Volvo’s I have driven over the past 15 years. FAR less issues than the VW Jettas and cabriolet I had previously.

Volvo "Newbee"

Never realized that this car would be so fast! Never had an opinion one way or the other about this brand but any 10 year old car that still gets mistaken for new is ok in my book. Very good on long trips. Like knowing that the reserve power is there when I need it. Feels solid and handles well. Dumb not to have a light in the trunk. Gas mileage is the worst feature. Like everything about this car. I am going to keep it in good condition as I cannot think of another car that I would want to trade for.
