I traded in a 2004 GTO for for a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0T and am not missing the GTO at all. The fuel economy is amazing (avg. 28 city / hwy), the performance isn't too far off the GTO and the insurance savings is great. The bi-xenon headlights are a must (pkg 2). The DSG auto is a little different when taking off from a stop, but the quick shifts make up for it. I have put 1,500 miles on mine so far and have no complaints.

On the CR used car to avoid list - Great!

This car has so many engineering deficiencies, that result in so many expensive repairs just to keep it running, that CR in April 2011, put it on the used car to avoid list. The four areas with 3 to 5 times the incidence of repair for an average vehicle were: Cooling system - Engine cooling fan cassette & related wiring goes out at around 60K to 80K miles $800 to $1,200; A/C system, compressor seizes; Body Hardware failures - window regulators, door latches, trunk latches; and I think, major Fuel System issues. On my car, it wouldn't hold an on center track - can't be fixed, design flaw, making extended highway travel fatiguing; stalls without warning at idle - problem can't be identified.

2006 Volkswagen Jetta Value Edition

We haven't even had our Jetta for one month, but we just LOVE it! It is fun, roomy, and very pretty! =) It costs us $32 to fill up with gas, and we drove almost 500 highway miles before having to fill up. So far this tank, I have drove 350 city miles and still have between a 1/4 and a 1/2 tank left. Pretty good, huh? With VW's resale values, and how extremely pleased we are with our Jetta, we're just crazy for not purchasing one sooner!

Engine Issues

I bought this car because of its great looks and cheap price tag; however, all I have faced is headaches. I am currently going in for the fourth time since my purchase for engine, exhaust, and electrical problems. One of the times there had been a recall through VW, and I was never notified.

I traded in a Dodge Dakota for my Jetta and haven't had a single regret. I was a little worried about not being able to sit up high anymore, but that fear went away quickly. It felt like I was driving a race car - it is so much fun! The ride is smooth and the car responds to everything with ease. The controls are all within reach and when you drive at night, there's an awesome contrast between the red and blue intererior dash lights. It's fun to see the looks you get while driving around in this car. The XM radio is a nice plus as well.
