Used 2000 Volkswagen Jetta Consumer Reviews
don't be fooled
I fell in love with the Jetta the first time a saw it and just had to have one. Big mistake!!! This is the worst car I have ever owned. I have had all the complaints that I have read about and then some. My bumper is hanging, the light on air conditioner control panel does not work, I have had my oxygen sensor replaced at lease 5 times, I'm working on my second pair of rear breaks and my brake light has a short in it!!!! Again, don't be fooled.
Volkswagon needs help!
As my first new car, I wanted a Jetta. But this car is in the shop too frequently! Electrical sensors(mass air flow, O2, engine coolant) are continuously broken causing the engine light to come on. Passenger door window regulator has failed twice causing the window to fall into the door and break. I had trouble starting the car for months and the car burns a quart of oil every 1000 miles. Now that the warranty is up (lame 2 yr, 24K mi), I just call volkswagon to fix parts that fail within a year of replacing them. I can't imagine a more unreliable car. Several friends have wanted a Jetta, but I can't recommend them with all the problems I've had.

Wish I had done more research
I wish that I had done more investigating when buying my car. I bought my car with less that 5k miles on it, and in the 4 years I've owned it, I have had the same problems as everyone else. I had to replace the Mass Air Flow sensor; the sensor in my driver side door failed, causing the car to always think it was open; the glove box drawer is broken; and now the driver and passenger power windows are dying. It took $1000 to figure out the MAF sensor, and I became a regular at the car shop. VW has yet to acknowledge any of these issues. I hope to sell it (be rid of it) before anything else dies. This is just a poor quality car.
Car gave out 10 days after purchase
So, it started when I found a Jetta for $5000 on Craigslist in my area, and I thought, "I want that car." I went to Kuna to get it, and on the test drive, it was PERFECT! Then, 10 days after, I went to pick up my 8-year-old, Dylan, from his mom in Nampa, and when we got on the freeway, it wouldn't go above 40 mph. We had to pull over and call a tow truck. After that experience, I wouldn't recommend buying a car over 200,000 miles.
