Used 2000 Volkswagen Jetta Consumer Reviews
Love it/Hate it
I love the look and ride of my 2000 Getta GLS, but unfortunately, I never have a chance to drive my car because it's continuously in the shop. For the 2 1/2 years I've had it, the O2 sensor, catalytic converter, elec fans, thermostat, many many fuses, etc, etc, etc. have all been replaced. I will NEVER buy another because of all the problems I am having (it's in the shop right now).
Great car
I've been VERY pleased with my Jetta. Worst gas mileage to date is 42 mpg and have had as high as 53 on the highway. I filled up before I left in Kansas City and had a little over 1/4 tank left by the time I hit Dallas, doing 80+ the whole way. Diesel engine suggests changing the 100% synthetic oil ever 10,000 miles, which saves a few bucks. I've put 32,500 miles on since I bought it and the only problem I've had is the radio's ground cable needing replaced (which the dealership did at no cost and provided a courtesy car). Interior is fantastic and standard features are far better than comparative cars for the price. Poor- mans BMW!

VERY BAD EXPERIENCE
I raved about my Volkwagen Jetta TDI for the first 50,000 miles, but have been very disappointed since then. The list of repairs is numbing: glow plug relay, glow plug, air flow sensor, passenger window motor, and dash lights. All of these problems have cropped up in the last 20,000 miles. Ready to push it off a cliff.
Former devout VW owner
New in Jul 00:emissions light on way home from dealer, they kept it for first week for defective fuel line. Year 1 & 2: rear window problems, goo oozing out from doors(3x), temp sensor failures (2x), ECM problem, cup holder(4x?). End of year 3, things have settled down, I hope. Bought it because it drove better than all in price range. But they no longer corner the market on fun-to-drive cars. Sorry VW, but you had a good thing going when you restored your image in the 90's and you blew it. I wonder about the Toureg. Built in Mexico, new model, hmm. Sorry, VW, no more time for your nonsense - buh-bye.
German Car with Some Problems
Overall, a good performing car but...... It seems to have a lot of mechanical/electrical problems. Have had for 65K miles and have enjoyed it. At the beginning, the interior got some sort of "cancer" whereas the membrane on the interior plastic would "peel off" leaving a nasty residue. VW knows all about this and claims the new cars don't have it. Otherwise, the same as I hear from other users. Windows fall down and don't go back up. "Check Engine" light on for no reason, and weird electrical problems. After car is off Extended Warranty, I plan to dump like a hot potato since repairs would be EXPENSIVE.
