Used 2000 Volkswagen Jetta Consumer Reviews
The Jetta is a great car!
The Volkswagen Jetta is a great car. It's fun to drive and reliable. There is a lot of storage room and the back seat is roomy, too. So far the only problem I have had in two years were the passenger and driver windows coming off of their tracks one time each. Both windows were covered under my warrenty, fixed right away by the dealer, and haven't fallen since. I highly recommend the Jetta.
FAST AND FURIOUS
I have owned my VR6 w/ A/T since July 1999.This car is designed to be DRIVEN!! and believe me I have pushed it to the limits. I love the power and the performance. I enjoy the sound system and the interior lighting. During the first five years, I replaced the battery, a couple of sensors and rear brake pads. My window parts were replaced under warranty and my cup holder is broken. No other problems after 50,000 HARD miles. Now my check engine light comes on more frequently and I have more wind noise. I just had to have a coolant leak fixed and the engine cooling fan motors replaced. So far, the fun and performance of the car has outweighed the upkeep expenses but I doubt it lasts to 100,000.

I'd never buy another VW
I've had more problems with this car than any I've ever owned. I bought it new and the Check Engine light has been on more often than it's been off. The driver and passenger window have fallen through the door 3 times (the last 2 VW paid for). The O2 censor and Mass air flow censor have been replaced 8 times. The right rear brake calliper has gone out twice. It has electrical problems out the wazzoo. Expensive to repair and constantly needs repair. Germans over-engineered it to a fault. Interior falling apart. "leather" comes off door handles, glove box broke from normal use. Replaced hazzard switch (before it was recalled). All in all very bad car experience.
Love it/Hate it
I love the look and ride of my 2000 Getta GLS, but unfortunately, I never have a chance to drive my car because it's continuously in the shop. For the 2 1/2 years I've had it, the O2 sensor, catalytic converter, elec fans, thermostat, many many fuses, etc, etc, etc. have all been replaced. I will NEVER buy another because of all the problems I am having (it's in the shop right now).
Great car
I've been VERY pleased with my Jetta. Worst gas mileage to date is 42 mpg and have had as high as 53 on the highway. I filled up before I left in Kansas City and had a little over 1/4 tank left by the time I hit Dallas, doing 80+ the whole way. Diesel engine suggests changing the 100% synthetic oil ever 10,000 miles, which saves a few bucks. I've put 32,500 miles on since I bought it and the only problem I've had is the radio's ground cable needing replaced (which the dealership did at no cost and provided a courtesy car). Interior is fantastic and standard features are far better than comparative cars for the price. Poor- mans BMW!
