this car if kept up in maintenance, there is some wear and tear.and parts are expensive but, they aren't major i had no vehicle failure so it is reliable but you can only appreciate it over a long period of use.style is not too dated but paint and finish are still fresh in appearance.the bilstiens and alloy wheels add appearance and crispness to the original squishy ride.

This is the 4th car I have ever owned and I have to say I love it!!! I have had a Subary, Chevy and Audi cars and this one has to be the best (tied with the Audi) It has been reliable from day 1. Fun to drive, fast and easy parking. Gas millage is awesome! Does not depreciate a lot. My wife's 2000 Hyundai depreciated faster than my VW. Its a great car. Easy to Mod. Great car for commuting!!!

Never had problems with car. I only change oil, new tires, and drive away. Just had 100,000 mile inspection and no- big-problems. A great Car

I have more problems with my Golf than I could have imagined. In five years, the exhaust system has failed four times, the distributor twice, the radiator once, the wheel bearings once, the starter once, a crankshaft bearing seal twice in a month (and now possibly a third time), and the cylinder head coolant flange once. The front wheels tend to become misaligned very easily, wearing out tires like it's a Viper at a drag strip, and the rear wheels are out of alignment but are apparently not alignable. The tailgate rusted quickly, ruining the rear wiper motor and the plate lights, and the silly strips on the doors keep falling off. Fun to drive, though.
