Great car, tank too small
We had the car for 8 months now and for the family of 5 and taking friends with us frequently, it is a great SUV. We looked at Audi and Volvo x90 and in terms of utility they did not come close. Both Volvo and Audi offer a more refined ride quality as subjective as that might be, but in terms of usefulness they don't come close to Atlas. VW has a recall which we just did on some front end stuff, and that seems to account for the riding over bumps that reviewers are complaining about. Overall great SUV. If you are looking for space and decent non offending interior design, but don't mind a bit boring interior or exterior for that matter, this car is it. My only complaint is the tank size. Get used to it, 300 miles is it, and for me I get nervous at 200. That was my initial problem with the car and I still hate it, but so be it. Overall, I think this was the best choice we could have made.

The Atlas a suv they shouldn't have made.
I came in and looked at the Atlas after seeing a commercial for 0 down etc. I didn't know at that time anything about Volkswagen having a new suv. When I walked into the showroom and saw the vehicle, at first I was very impressed seeing that Volkswagen rarely makes appealing looking vehicles. After the lease puchase of the Atlas I realized I should not have obtained this vehicle after all. The interior, although spacious lacks cosmetic appeal. The vehicle, which the salesman told me to have it in Eco drive, which I would imagine saves fuel, constantly cuts off this is very agitating in stop and go driving. I believe some more thought and origination should have been put into this vehicle before the launch. The one I have I can't even add Satellite Radio. Sluggish ride and average looking. Don't purchase. A lot more suvs out that are worth the money.

Pray you don’t need a part
Love my Atlas from a far. I’ve had it for a few months with no problems. Unfortunately, someone crashed into me and sandwiched me between 2 cars. Thank goodness my car did a wonderful job stopping and keeping me safe. I brought it to a VW dealership and they have been great. It was all fixed, but for 1 part. 2 months have now passed and I still don’t have my car. The part I need doesn’t even have an expected date. I am in touch with VW America and they don’t have a date either. I have made 2 car payments on a car sitting in a shop and I am stuck with a rental that isn’t even a VW. I could not be more disappointed.

Loving this SUV
I’ve been watching the Altas since 2017, thinking what a very SUV. A year later I got my nerve up to test drive one since my 06 Pathfinfer was giving me a lot of problems and it had 230,000 miles. When I drive the Atlas I feel in love instantly. It drives and handled so well I decided to lease one. All of the bells and whistles were very new as well, but I was very impressed to say the least. It’s sporty, has lots of power and very spacious. The only issues I have is the gas it burns a lot of gas.

2018 Atlas FWD W/ Tech
Great care with lots of space! For the month that I have owned this car I had no issues yet. If anything.. new buyers should be aware that the MPG advertised is under the best conditions tested by manufacture, so.. that mean for regular drivers like us expect to get less fuel efficiency. No navigation but who needs it when you can connect your andriod/iphone to the "infotainment" system.

Great vehicle
Bought this after our Ford Explorer sport was bought back under lemon law...this is a much better vehicle. Only downside is that it could use a bit more power...but the V-6 is adequate. Otherwise, vehicle is really equipped well and rides great. Functions are excellent, but Ford had a better navigation system. But with a 7 year warranty, and cheaper than the explorer, it is a far better value.

HOLY GAS GUZZLER
Is anyone else having a issue with the gas usage? I just leased this new VW Atlas 2018 last tuesday September 26 I left the showroom with a full tank of gas, by Saturday night September 30th my light went on for low gas. I filled the tank up on Sunday and as of today Wednesday Oct 3 I'm already at half tank..This is nuts. I'll be making another lease payment a month just for gas. Can someone advise if there having any gas issues with the gauge or anything. Each fill of tank is 315miles so if car was filled 2x that 630miles my odometer is only 242miles and I have about 215miles left. I'm afraid to drive to NJ it will take a full tank to get there. SMH....

2 months owned 4 engine light service visits
Don’t buy this car unit. They fix the engine light/fuel tank issues. I brought the car in 4 times during my 2 month ownership, 3 of them times my engine light was on, I was told by Hendrickson Frisco, tx there was no issue with the car and they reset the engine light. I lost confidence in that service department and brought it to another who explained I had at minimum 2recalls on the car including an fuel issue which could have caused the fuel tank to catch fire. Don’t trust the Frisco dealer ship they said everything was safe to drive despite reparated engine light issues. I paid 56k for a lemon. Service department and post sales support terrible. Wish I waited for the Subaru to be released.

This Car Needs More Accolades
I have driven in Honda Pilots, Toyota Highlanders, Ford Explorer and GMC Acadia on the lower end and Range Rover, Audio Q7 and BMW X5. This car is priced like the low end but delivers like a high end model. Note I have the SEL and the 20 inch black wheels (a great look), but it really impresses with the sky roof , Apple Play and leatherette interior. What I love the most about the vehicle is the German engineering. The steering and suspension are so supple and responsive. It is a really large vehicle but drives like a smaller more nimble car. This car absolutely deserves more praise. I highly recommend.. Still going strong after 2 and a 1/2 years. No major issues. A few minor recall items fixed and the breaks squeak a little but still very happy.

Go get an Atlas instead of a Toyota Highlander
Not sure about why there are so many negative reviews. I give this car a 5 star. We have had it for a month now and it is AWESOME! I am 6'2" and I fit more than comfortably in the 3rd row. I did not fit on the 3rd row in the highlander. My head hit the ceiling and my knees where against the 2nd row. My wife just under 6' sat in the 2nd row between the 2 car seats for short rides without issues. I have been getting 18 mpg using the blue trainer app which is integrated into the SEL. All I can say for now is that I am so happy that I chose the Atlas over the Highlander. Also take in account the bumper to bumper People First Warranty for 6 years or 72,000 miles. Go get an Atlas (SEL) and forget about the Highlander period.

Best SUV in 2017/2018
This is a huge SUV. It seats 7 people comfortably with some space left over for your stuff. Technology is awesome, ACC, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, auto headlights, auto windshield wipers, all work flawlessly. It is the best value for the money out there in the mid-size SUV market right now (June/2017). Since it is a new project, safety ratings should be above average for the class too when IIHS ratings come out.

2.5 years of ownership... love / hate relationship
I have had the vehicle for 14 months now and put just about 20,000 miles on it so it has been driven but fully maintained. I took it in for the 20,000 mile service and was told that there were two software updates required. That triggered an Airbag fault which kept the car in the shop for 4 days until VW tech support could assist and sort it out. Then on driving it home, the engine malfunction indicator light came on. Back to the dealership the next morning. Two hours later "it's a catalytic convertor software fault" and we need VW tech support to help clear it. Bring the car back a few days later to coordinate with VW technical support and find out two days later that they need to replace the catalytic convertor. Two days later I am called and told the part is on backorder and no projected date to get it in stock. Now I find out that this is a common problem to the model and they can't source the replacement parts properly. Stay away from the Atlas!!! Update 1: last 14 months have been uneventful. The car has been reliable. Periodic fault light on dash which always seems to take 1-2 attempts for it to be reset but my guess that is just poor VW service in my location. Car is a great people/cargo mover, just a gas hog.

I Love My Atlas
I bought this in mid June 2017—it is Feb 2018 and I have 33,000 miles on it——I Drive a TON!!!! The Atlas is large, my husband is 6”7 and it is the most comfortable vehicle he has been in (except for a full size Tahoe etc) —-the back seat is very spacious —-not sure about a long ride for adults in the 3rd row, but the 2nd row seats can be moved up to allow for more room—- seems like I get gas 3-4 times a week, but I Drive a lot——it says I get about 22mpg—I have only had minor issues with it—electronic, so of course it’s fine when I take it in.......and I look crazy......the remote start is tricky, sometimes it works for me, sometimes it doesn’t—the car play isn’t consistent and my hands free is testy——overall, I absolutely love my car!! I will probably buy another one when the wheels fall off of this one 😄

Great car!
We really took our time before purchasing the VW Atlas SE w/tech. The number #1 selling feature is that my tall boys (6’2”) fit comfortably in the middle and even third row. That means my family of five can comfortably cruise around town and go on road trips. I really like the handling, comfort and tech features. We feel very safe in this car. My only critique is the gas mileage. I mostly putter around town so at best I’m getting high teens/gallon. Not loving this. It’s a lot better for highway miles.

I liked it better than I thought I would
I use this car to drive visiting family around and for use in snowy weather(I use a different car for daily commuting). It replaced a 2007 Honda Pilot that had developed expensive repair needs. I needed a large cargo area and a second row bench seat (which was strangely not available on the Chevy Traverse at the higher trims). I have owned it since July and have taken it for several trips with family and driven through one snowstorm so far. It is comfortable and spacious; fits alot of suitcases (we usually have 4-5 full sized suitcases for 5 adults and miscellaneous backpacks and smaller bags). The electronic display took some getting used to after the simplicity of the Honda (I still haven't mastered all the features!), though is much more nicely laid out than the Chevy Tahoe that I had the occasion to rent last summer. While reviews complain that the gas mileage is worse than other midsized SUVS it actually is better than larger SUVS and has as much cargo space as some of them (such as the aforementioned Chevy Tahoe). The features I really like are the collision warning feature; the great optics of the backup camera; the 360 degree surround view which is great for accurate parking. The features I dislike are: the placement of the drivers USB and 12volt plugs (at the back of a narrow cubby hole which makes it hard to reach them if you have anything else in the cubby hole such as sunglasses); the color of the needles on some of the dials is the same as the markings which makes them hard to read. I like having a CD player, though it is located in the glove compartment which means you can't change CDs while driving alone. The electronics do take some getting used to and the manual's explanations may not always we the best though there are videos online. So far no repair issues so I haven't dealt with Volkswagen service, though I am mindful of Volkswagen's worse than average track record for reliability (the main reason I was reluctant to buy a Volkswagen). The car did ok driving thru the snowstorm - just remember to turn off the lane assist!

I really wish I could love the VW Atlas
We are a family that has owned (and currently owns) multiple models across the VW product line in recent years so I’m familiar with the pluses and minuses of dealing with their products and service. We were hopeful that the VW Atlas would be a home run when it came out in 2018 and on paper it looked to be so. Going against conventional wisdom and purchasing (leasing) a first new model year it has been one of the most frustrating experiences of any car we have ever owned...and we’ve had almost 30 cars over the years. This vehicle has to qualify as a Lemon — From continuous rattles, replaced engine mounts, replaced strut mounts, faulty fuel injectors, faulty cruise control and warning systems, bad sensors, this is by far the worst quality and technology of any car I’ve ever owned...even worse than a BMW I once owned. This car has about 28k miles on it now so it’s still under warranty and has probably spent more time in the shop than on the road. As soon as one problem is fixed another one pops up or an old one reoccurs. We just got it back after a week and half in the shop last week and while on vacation the cruise and front collision warning system went out...back to the repair shop it goes this week. We’re contacting a lawyer about Lemon Law protection. It’s a shame we really want to love the VW Atlas and there’s much to love about this SUV — we simply can’t get past the fact it’s so unreliable. The only saving grace...we leased it and it’s still under warranty. Would NEVER consider this vehicle until its track record improves.

Electrical Nightmare
My autostart stop system shuts off in the middle of an intersection. My blind spot stays on when nothings there. My keyless entry system doesnt work properly. And my audio cuts for no reason. I have had it in the shop 7 times and they cant figure it out. New battery, new infotainment system and new catalytic converter and still having issues. Lemon lawing mine. Dont buy one. These electrical issues are well known but they cant figure them out.

2018 VW Atlas R-line
This is one if the best looking SUV on the market. Acceleration is great. Off-road this SUV is outstanding. Cargo space is unbelievable. The adaptive cruise control and Apple CarPlay is worth every penny I paid for this car. There are a few short comings : 1) rear view mirror is too small. 2) too many electronic glitches ( specially in really cold weather)

Meh
The car base trims are intentionally stripped down / made worse. Horrible reliability - in and out of service all year and a half of ownership. To say that the dealers' warranty support is bad would be a major understatement, I've never experienced that kind "screw you" attitude anywhere else.

Step Away From The Atlas
I traded my Atlas after only having it 6 months and it was in back at the dealership 8 times for repairs. My front parking sensors had a major flaw in them that the dealership could not “replicate” even though I showed them a video of the vehicle doing it. They made me feel like I was the idiot. Sorry VW you are on this first run Atlas. Then there was the horrible idling, the crack in the crystal on the radio, the rear window falling down and not going up, and the Apple CarPlay never working correctly. Oh and no parts are ever available so the car has to sit at the dealership. Give it about 3 years before you even consider this 14 MPG Gas Hog

Rattle
I have had a rattle in my new VW atlas after three months I own it for 8 months so far it has been in for service for the rattle 5 times. I just got a email form the dealer and they say let is a normal problem with the car and there is nothing they an do. I was shocked!!!! It is disgrace that they would say this. They have a recording of the noise and have heard it in person. How can a dealer say there is nothing they can do about it.I drove a loaner car of the same model and there is not noise. The dealer is in Boulder CO.

Volkswagen piece of garbage
DON’T BUY IT! . Do yourself a favor and don’t buy this piece of garbage. I bought the 2018 Atlas and it’s giving just headaches and Volkswagen don’t do anything for you as a consumer. One day I found the drivers side floor full of water after a rainy day. I thought I left the window slightly open (WRONG) after another rainy day the same thing I have pictures and videos with proof. Took the car to the dealer and THEY DIDN'T FIX IT. 4 times with the same situation and the drivers door is all screwed, it makes horrible noises and the alert system goes on anytime. VOLKSWAGEN CAN’T DO ANYTHING. Off course the have the money in their pockets anything else don’t matter. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO VOLKSWAGEN!!!

An SUV and not a Minivan disguised as SUV
Looked at all, tested all and the Atlas won overall. Ride is great the pickup is what I expect of such an SUV and is on par with competition. I have spoken to many owners who had nothing but praise for the Atlas. It sure seems that if one has issues then the person is every where to complain. I have seen the same person complain in the same place several times. So I thought I should also give my opinion. I do recommend it. Everyone that has been in it had nothing but positive views of it. I had 6 passengers (7 including driver) and not one complained and the power was just right. My MPG seems to be better than the avg. but I always drive light footed (60% city and 40% highway) and my avg. MPG is at 22. Got as high as 26 mpg on highway at 60 MPH.

Howl at your tires!
Overall love the new Atlas. 2 issues. The tires make a howling sound so that loud it makes things in the car vibrate. This occurs as speeds 65-75. It's been 5 months since this issue was reported. Dealership claims VW knows of the issue, but does not have comparable tire to replace it. "Still working on it" is the message for the past five months. The issue is the distance that the key fob operates. At distances of more than 50' You literally need to stand in front of the car for the fob to work... no obstructions. Why is it you can get an aftermarket system that has 1/4 mile effective range and VW can not get theirs to work more than 50'??? I have been a GMC Yukon driver for 20 years. My 10 year Yukon I could remote start with factory key fob at 500' through a window from my second story office building. In 2018 you would VW German Engineering could do better!

Impressed
This was a present to myself after driving a old and small SUV beyond what I would have liked. I love how I sit up higher in this SUV compared to others, how it drives and all the tech features. I am so happy with our purchase. I have driven on 12 hour road trips and trips 10 minutes down the road and enjoy the drive. I have almost 10k miles and have had no issues so far. My only gripe is I wish it had a bigger fuel tank.

Worth every penny!
We shopped for the perfect SUV for about 3 months. Finally, we decided on a Atlas V6 SEL R-Line. The wife and I love this suv! Smooth, sleek, and offers so much tech for the money. I can’t really say anything bad about it. I’ve seen other reviewers complain about the power but honestly the V6 isn’t that slow. *Update after 7 months of ownership* Still love it!

Atlas SE w/Tech R-Line
UPDATE 6/23/22: 75k Miles in and this thing has served us well! Just replaced brakes (pads & rotors) for an upcoming road trip. There is an oddity with anti-freeze fluid running low a tad premature but no trouble with it otherwise. Rock solid, no regrets! UPDATE 6/19/21: All is well as the Atlas has been reliable with exception to the keyless entry issue at the very beginning. I like the original design better than the redesign too and the wife still loves the Atlas so I think it's been a success. UPDATE 6/10: Keyless entry stopped working about 2 months in, had to have all door handles replaced and repainted to resolve which I found at the time unacceptable. However I must say it works as expected now with no further issues. We're still in love with this SUV but wish it had a larger gas tank. Not our first VW and we're impressed with the Atlas overall. Highlights include superior infotainment (native and Android Auto) and user interface, excellent lighting everywhere (interior and exterior), simplistic and elegant interior design, roomy as hell for 7, superior ride quality, and sporty looks. The not-so-great: engine often feels a bit eager to provide too much power at lower speeds, keyless entry is uber-sensitive and will not work as expected if fob is in denim pockets or the wife's purse, gas tank a bit smallish for SUV this size. Otherwise it's an impressive SUV and we receive compliments all the time. If you're into lights (e.g. DRL's, LED's, etc.) this is the SUV for you as VW apparently has a thing for it. It stands on its own without trying to imitate Audi whatsoever. The brakes on this thing are impeccable and features like remote-start were standard. VW's got a home run with Atlas.

2018 Atlas Comfortline 4000 klms
Stay away from this piece of junk. Shame Shame on you VW what a big mistake this was. I did get 34-36 miles to the gallon until it got to -35 degrees out here in Canada. Remote would work so I went out and started, running on 3 cylinders EPC light on engine light on, low coolant light on. Took it to the dealer days later. Software updates done, I asked before they did it if my fuel mileage would be affected, was told no. well it get 28 miles on the highway and is a big in town. Needs a new catalytic converter which I have been waiting for for just about a month now. Has a coolant leak but of course they can't find it. Has a knocking noise in the back end some where but of course they probably aren't going to even look for that. I buy a new car for 46,000 dollars and this is what I got, a extremely unreliable and dangerous piece absolute garbage. Service tells me the antifreeze must have evaporated - where do these [non-permissible content removed] come from ? Had an oil change done, I checked the oil level the next day and was at least a liter over full and looked just as dirty as before it went in. DON"T GET MIXED UP WITH VOLKS WAGON AS THEY GIVE ME THE IMPRESSION THAT THEY COULD CARE LESS AND THAT GOES FOR VW CANADA ALSO. What a bunch of criminals.

Underpowered, tiny fuel tank, and software bugs!
We got a white R line SEL and it is a great looking vehicle and great value to other SUVs in this class. Storage space is off the charts. Picking the right options you can get a very attractive looking car. However, this first model year is garbage (hopefully the 2019 model fixed all of the issues). The infotainment system has countless bugs and VW has not released a single software update since inception to fix the issues. The car is really heavy and engine is extremely underpowered as a result so the gas mileage is poor (avg 12-14 mph combined). To make matters significantly worse, the fuel tank capacity is so small that we have to fill up the tank every 250-300 miles. I knew buying the first model year was a risk but I would have thought software bugs would have been tested and at least updates issued (in the 2 years since the car was released) and they would put in a much larger gas tank for a car with such terrible gas mileage. I would stay far away from the 2018 model year and possibly the 2019 model unless all of these issues have been addressed.

In love
VW has hit a homerun with the Atlas. Our V6 AWD SE is quiet, smooth, roomy, and exceptionally comfortable. It is disappointing to hear that so many have encountered problems with theirs, and it's too early to be sure ours won't be problematic, as well, but there's always somewhat of an assumption of risk when buying a brand new model.

Don't buy Volkswagen Atlas
This is my second Atlas. The first one was in the shop at least 6 times for the same problem..now this one has been in the shop 14 days tomorrow with engine problems. I am afraid to drive it IF they get it fixed. I was told they have never seen this problem before.. so with this being my second one..it seems I have purchased 2 lemons..

Air conditioning issues
Have problems with my atlas air conditioning. It's been in the shop 3 times. The air conditioning does not work properly. On 1 you can barely feel air and it throws warm air instead of cold. Dealership can't fix it right and try to lie by saying there made like that. I had it with them.

Do not buy this car
I have the r-line SE with tech. I loved my car. Emphasis on loved. I loves the way it looked, fit my family of 4, and on the occasion... 6 because of grandparents or friends. Just under 20k in miles, my coolant light kept coming on. It got topped off. Not even a month later, it did it again. I got an oil change and coolant was topped off. A couple weeks later and same thing. So when it did it again I asked the dealership WHERE IS IT GOING? It’s not water so I know it’s going somewhere vs evaporating. My cars engine was completely taken apart to find out that the head gasket wasn’t bolted on all the way. My car was there for a week. The loaner I got broke down with 1,700 miles on it. I finally got my car back and 4 days later I have fluid alllllll over my garage floor. At the time I assumed coolant. Waited for tow truck, dealership got the car and it was transmission fluid. Got my car back and at this point called customer care bc I am NOT ok having all of this happen and knowing a car has been torn down.. doesn’t always get out back together right or at least to factory standards. Got the car back another day and guess what.. leaking still. Fixed car and had it for a few more days and then the check engine came on. They had my car another 2 days. Needless to say I was and still am pissed off. Customer care and my case manager was worthless. $100 gift card for my inconvience. I think because I complained enough I also got 10% off MSRP on a new VW. There is NO WAY in hell I would buy the same car knowing that this issue... IS GOING TO BE A NATIONAL RECALL because of my car. Which means my 2018 and all 2018s will have this and clearly the 2019s will as well. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR. what’s even better is my car in a year has depreciated 20k. Yes you read that right. All I want from VW is for them to give me 7k to get me out of my loan since I can’t have my vehicle I traded it in for. Which had 112k and never an issue. (GMC TERRAIN) I will now be out even more money but I wasn’t even offered extended warranty [non-permissible content removed]. I am contemplating taking them to court and going back to something that is reliable and not junk. Oh and gas mileage sucks plus has a super little tank.

Almost there
A great SUV except engine is underpowered. Everything was great once we sat inside and reviewed the features. Once on the road that was the deal breaker. Engine needs some more horsepower.

Perfect for families
Great car as far as cargo and passanger space. The third row of seats is comfortable and easily accessible. Our kids, 6’6” tall, like to seat there with the second row flattened down.... Very good driving assist technoligies, on long highway trips the lane assist and the adjustable cruise control are very helpful. Overall quite elegant in and out, suspensions are a little too soft and the brakes somewhat catchy. Acceleration and power are ok.

EPC Error
From September 19 to November 24 my 2018 has been in service 4 times all for the same issues, Car just quits when I’m going 60 mph down the road or at a red light. After the 4th time in which they had for 3 weeks I was assured issue has been resolved all with the fuel injector and pumps. Well guess what after driving 90 miles EPC is BACK!!! Time to get rid of this vehicle
Tons of room, eats up highway miles
The VW Atlas does exactly what it was designed to do. Comfortably fits a large family and their gear, and gets them to and from no matter the weather. The Atlas is not flashy to look at (R-Line trim makes it look Germanic and is a must) or exciting to drive, it simply does it's job and never offends. The engine could be more exciting, but it has plenty of power and sounds nice revving like most V-6s that are still on the market. Towed an enclosed trailer for a long road trip, with no issue in Summer heat. Reliability has been similar to Honda vehicles I have owned, not perfect, but nothing has shaken my confidence to road trip with it. Captain chairs are comfy, fake leather is easy to clean and the infotainment is quick to respond and easy to use even if the screen isn't class leading. Driving safety aids worked well, especially since it came out in 2018. If I was purchasing a Large 3 Row crossover now, it would be hard not to buy a Telluride, but at the time the Telluride did not exist. Overall it's been a solid choice and I would confidently sell it to a friend after 5 years of ownership.

NOT RELIABLE AT ALL
We purchased our 2018 Atlas and at first we loved it. Its roomy, drove nice initially but with the amount of times it has been back to the dealer I can honestly say I would never purchase another one. Our vehicle has had 8 RECALLS. Every time I bring my vehicle in for an issue, whether it be the check engine light, the battery died, the transmission light, there are more recalls. I am honestly afraid to go on a road trip with my family with this vehicle - this month alone it was at the dealership 3 times. Do yourself a favor - research this vehicle before purchase because I am not the only one that has numerous issues.

Dream Car Turned Nightmare
Chapter #1 Let me tell you about my dream car, the sporty kurkuma yellow 2018 Atlas I bought brand new.... I had built my dream car one day on VW's website while daydreaming about getting out of my momma minivan. I spent hours customizing it to the T. V6, Tech Package, sleek black interior... It was perfect. After some prodding and a few winks I got my husband to agree to go look at them and see if they would even be a possibility for our active family. We drove down to the dealer and lo and behold on the showroom floor, not only did they have a Kurkuma yellow one, the color I desperately wanted, but it was EXACTLY what I had built online. It was meant to be... I told my husband as much and showed him my little dream page, some more coaxing and soon enough I was a proud owner of my one and only car for life.... Or so I thought... After the first issue with the infotainment screen that all of a sudden was showing random black lines I told my hubby "Well nothing's perfect." We spent a day at the dealer getting it fixed and everything was good... Then the check engine light came on... My husband was visibly worried, but once again I was told by the dealer "It just needs a system update, everything is going to be okay..." Another day at the dealership... Then less than a week later the same check engine light... This time they replaced the catalyst, parts of the exhaust, and EVAP canister... They kept our for 2 days... My husband started to worry for my driving it, yet again I calmed him... "New cars have issues I guess"... One month later... My car started having issues with the fuel gauge... It would only register up to half, we never know exactly how much fuel it had... Back to the dealer.... But this time... Things didn't get better.... My husband received custody of the car with a new sent and an unbearable smell. They had dumped fuel in the car and to counteract it they doused it in an industrial deodorant! We couldn't breathe in it, we couldn't drive it, they simply told us it would go away... A week later after all of our belongings smelling like a perfume store we took it back and left it with the dealer... Undrivable... They promised to remove the smell.... Two weeks later, we get a call "We've done the best we can, it's better...." The car smells like bleach and it's only half as unbearable... "It'll fade, promise!" We are told... We find out that they did an "Ozone shock" to our car which can cause electrical and trim components to fail prematurely.... At this point my husband can look at the repair to the fuel sensor and not get nauseous... He finds that to access the sensor, they cut a jagged 12" T-shaped cut into the carpet... I was devastated... I washed and cared for this dream car regularly.... I refused to let food into it, and my friends had to dust their shoes to enter.... Now it was scarred... Now it was flawed... I cried. My husband started to try to reason with the dealer... Nothing... My husband called VW customer care... Now over a month later still no progress... At first we were ignored for days on end... We were told to wait 20 "work days", after which we were told we didn't qualify for any assistance... The manufacturer takes no responsibility for the warranty issues... Says they are "normal"... The dealer says they will replace the carpet but that nothing else is their problem... We've been denied even an extended warranty... In the last week the lift gate on the back stopped working properly... So, today, I have a 50k mile, two year old, "dream" car that has been in the dealer for warranty repairs for well over 18 days now, and today the infotainment system freezes... My husband calls VW customer care yet again... We aren't hopeful... It was my dream car.... I guess that's what I get for dreaming... Careful what YOU dream for... Chapter #2 - Light of Hope A glimmer of hope! We received a response from the team from Volkswagen!!! They assured us that this is exactly not what they wanted for us. They cared for us! We saw a ray of care, a breath of fresh air. In a world where we saw no way through we now had someone who cared. We were told that our concerns would be addressed and that a solution would be found that would make us whole. We were told to make an appointment with the dealer to have the most current concerns examined. We called and were told that we would have to wait a week and a half to secure an appointment. We were okay with that, we had hope! We had light! Waiting we can do. One problem: The new issues with the infotainment system and the hatch are intermittent.... I managed to record both on a video... I had proof! I just want it all fixed... I just want to be done... I just want piece of mind... After driving several hours, and after leaving my Atlas with the dealership for a couple hours, they called me back. "We are sorry Mrs Robertson... We couldn't reproduce it..." But I had a video!!! "I'm sorry Mrs Robertson, bring it back when it completely goes out

2018 Atlas
After some issues with the technology at the beginning I was turned off on the purchase. After couple of trips to the shop they finally did an update to the software and the issues have since gone away. This is a nice vehicle and my friends give me complements every time they ride with me. Not a VW fan but this vehicle has the most room I could find inside. I'm 6'4" 240. So I take up a lot of room. Normally people don't like sitting behind me as they have no space. Even with my chair all the way back there is still almost 37" inches of space between the back of my seat and the front of the rear seat. More space than any in its class, I looked at them all. Drives beautifully and is near self driving with the lane assist and adaptive cruise control. Good family SUV.

In the shop again
The car is comfy, looks nice. We bought the 3rd one In Colorado after they launched this model. It’s been in the shop several times. Electrical issues was the first. Next coolant light. Took it in, they said head gasket was bad. Then, after it was at the dealership for a few days, they said they had to order a new cylinder head. Had it back a few weeks now and it was leaking oil on our garage floor. Took it back in. They claim it’s mot oil and that the catalytic converter needs to be replaced. WHATS NEXT???? The car has 40k miles. Luckily it’s under warranty. My concern is when it’s out of warranty, what are we going to be stuck having to pay for? FAR TOO many problems for a brand new car.

Atlas great outweighs any negative
Volkswagen options every car to death. I wish I had purchased an upgraded interior and opted for the sun roof but I had a budget. 3.6 ltr engine is powerful, smooth, quiet and fuel efficient. In the year I have owned it averaged 24 MPG in mixed driving. The car is a pleasure to drive. Every driver in my family including generation Z's love its handling, power and AWD. I'm the only family member who doesn't disable the start/engine stop. Cargo room is exceptional. The seats are easy to fold down, but it is a level of effort. I wish the steering wheel tilted further down but it's a minor annoyance. Adaptive cruise could learn a little from Subaru as it doesn't take back off after stopping . I would recommend this car to anyone. Braking is exceptional. The car feels solid and is one of the quietest cars I have ever owned. It does not drive like a large vehicle. Repairs: I have had the battery replaced, (warranty). Cruise control and dash kit up like a Christmas tree after loading it up. Required four wheel alignment, $276.00 my cost. VW dealer in Ann Arbor Michigan is in a word "Phenominal". I’m updating my 2018 Atlas SE 4motion. At 87000 I am as pleased with this vehicle as I was when I purchased. The vehicle still acts, drives and behaves like it’s still new. I absolutely love this car. Zero maintenance since a battery replacement at three months under warranty. Only one foible is the Apple Play frequently disabled. I’ve reached maximums of 28 MPG on the highway. This is a brilliant car. Update: Almost 100K on my 2018 Altas SE technology version. Still a fabulous car with only routine maintenance. Car runs today as is it did when new. This car has been spectacular. Just returned from 1300 mile drive from the Carolinas and averaged 26 miles per gallon. I can put an 8 foot 2x4 inside the car. Love it. Update May 2025 mileage 102000. My now 7 year old Atlas is still a gem. The interior has held up beautifully and looks close to new. At about 101K it generated a engine warning light for the beloved O2 sensors. It was an easy fix of a do-it-yourself mechanic. Cost was $120 and took less then an hour. I would buy this car again

Perfect family ride
This vehicle is the perfect car for our family while maintaining a stylish look. Plenty of room for 3 car seats across the middle row and easy access to the third row. The multi zone climate control is a great feature as well as the Apple car play. Overall we love our Atlas!
