Absolutely love my truck!! 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD

We live in Colorado, and absolutely love our truck!! Currently, we have just under 5K miles on it (I only have to drive a small distance to the train everyday), but those 5K miles have been very impressive. Ride is smooth, the mpg is just what the epa estimates, and the reliability has been top notch. At first, the engine would hunt for gears on the highway, but after we drove it for a while, that has stopped. The ToyotaSense/adaptive cruise control takes a bit to get used to, but after you have tried it a few times, it is really cool and nice to have on longer road trips. As expected, the off road capability is phenomenal! We took it up to some very intense forest roads where crawl control was needed, and the Tacoma made it look so easy (even with stock tires and no additional lift!). I would highly recommend this truck to anyone looking for a new ride. Great daily driver, but also fantastic for weekends when you want to get up to the mountains or get out of town.

Still trouble free. It had a recall about the frame so I took it in and they sprayed the inside of the frame to protect against rust, no charge plus a loner for the day. Still, the only complaint I have about this truck in the oil filter. As I stated before, my last truck was a 2007 Tacoma and was the easiest vehicle I've ever had for changing the oil filter. Why would they ever want to change that design. Other than that, this is a great truck. Great pick up and towing power, good gas mileage (20-25), excellent transmission and good looks.

This is an outstanding vehicle filled with off-road capabilities along with adding a ton of entertainment and safety features. The vehicle is the perfect size if your looking for something to tow heavy stuff, but you would prefer not to require a tank to do so. I highly recommend this vehicle to anyone with a sense of adventure. Also, it's a Toyota, the reliability factor itself is an investment if you are one that puts less than 20k miles a year on your vehicles. Pros are: It sounds nice, it looks mean, it's comfortable for adults in the back as well as the front seats, it rides well, handles well on and of course, off the road, Reliable, tons of entertainment features, and it's reliable with an outstanding resale value. Cons are: Wish it had a moon/sun roof option, the telescoping steering wheel is nice, but I wish it went 1 or 2 inches higher, the back can be a little snug if you have to use a rear facing car seat for your kid, but then again, you probably wouldn't buy this vehicle if you planned on transporting lots of kids.

I went back to Toyota after driving a Silverado for five years. (I've had three previous Taco's. ) GM still does not offer the same quality and reliability that Toyota does. And the safety features on the 2018 Tacoma are great. I'm in my seventies and I need all the help I can get. The only drawback is getting in and out. But once you're in, it's worth any inconvenience. It's got a great sound system, rides and handles well, and is reliable. I put on the fifties and early 60's tunes, and I'm eighteen again. Before I turned in my Silverado LTZ I had to replace the fuel pump for $1300.00 Never had to do that with any of my Tacomas.

Horrible Driving Experience

The Tacoma 6 cylinder suffers from a major design flaw. This engine is prone to detonation. This can be catastrophic for an engine if allowed to go un-corrected. Toyota knee this when they completed the design and testing of this engine. They therefore relied on an anti-detonation sensor that adjusts ignition timing to compensate. The engine is constantly making timing adjustments under load to avoid this problem. This, along with the variable valve timing leads to an absolute miserable driving experience. I have owned several Toyotas over the years. I couldn’t stand driving my Tacoma any longer so I traded it in on a new Tundra. Toyota has better engineering and quality standards than this. They know about the problem but apparently they haven’t determined that it is a big enough financial impact yet to react.
