Used 2018 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Consumer Reviews
2018 Toyota Tacoma - Transmission Issues
The 2018 Tacoma Automatic has so many forward gears that it cannot decide what gear it wants to be in. If it's not down shifting or shifting into a higher gear only to down shift and do it again it's not happy. This is my 4th Toyota Tacoma - PRIOR to this 2018 they have always been a great great little truck. This truck would be ok if you never expected to get out of 2nd or maybe 3rd gear - but highway driving - even in Oklahoma where it's mostly flat and there aren't too many hills to climb is frustrating as can be - do NOT buy a Toyota Tacoma 6 Cylinder Automatic unless you like feeling the jerk of an automatic transmission that cannot decide what gear to be in. Toyota Service acknowledges that everyone complains about this - but to my knowledge has never found any form of solution.

Back in a truck
I went from a Highlander I bought new 12 years ago to a new Tacoma. I had several Toyota trucks in the past. On the positive, I love the fact that the 2019 v6 has better highway mpg than the i4, plus you get the extra power if you need it. But I was a bit surprised that the little things were missing -- there's no latch inside the vehicle to open the gas access but old-style anyone-can-open from the outside, the hazard button is a bit to close to the fan control and gets set accidentally, as a tall person (6'1") I have a hard time with getting into the door w/out having to twist my head sideways. If you drive in the rain/fog the radar can become inoperable and thus cruse control doesn't work until it dries out (there is a voluntary recall to fix this). Using the adaptive cruse control is dangerous (I now always override it), and the Collision Warning has gone off 3 times in 6 months when there was no one in front of me (twice I think it was the oncoming car in the other lane).

Rugged TACO!
I have had this truck for 6 months and 10,000 miles and it has be a great experience so far. I’m averaging about 22.6 mpg per tank according to the instrument cluster. My driving is part highway and intown driving. Love the rugged appearance of this truck. The driving experience could be better due to the body roll and hadeling but it’s not a sports car. I don’t do off roading so can’t speak for that but the 4x4 has been great in the snowy months.

Atkinson cycle
Be aware that the V6 Tacoma will shift frequently to try and stay in the Atkinson engine mode for gas efficiency. When you step harder on the gas it will change to normal 4 cycle power when needed.

STILL Happy
I wanted a reliable truck and thats what I got. The constant shifting of the transmission is annoying, but the gas milage is great for a truck. If you want luxury, buy a CHEV. OR FORD.
