Typically reliable quality Toyota
Nice truck. Reliable, quiet. 4 cyl has enough power 95% of the time. I don't tow loads. Manual transmission helps with both power and gas mileage. Access doors are just right. Don't need the silly looking full rear doors.
This truck is forever!!
I bought the loaded TRD offroad package. Sharp black baja rims. I love the feeling of driving this car. It's smooth, tight, you dont feel pot holes - it seems to glide right over them, it feels like a truck sports car. It's quiet on the road, has organized storage to put things. Make sure you get it with all the options available. You will want them when you own it for awhile. Do not sacrifice comfort - get the upgraded seats. They are great with lumbar support.

Poor fit and finish
The fit and finish is not close to the Toyotas I have owned in the past. I have gap differences of more than 3.2mm side to side. The paint has a lot of "orange peel." Toyota's position is that they are all the same and the Tacomas have "textured paint, since that is the type of paint they use." When was the last time you heard "texture and car paint" used in the same sentence? Make sure you check the fit and finish very carefully before you buy, since Toyota will provide no help after the sale.
2008 tacoma
Great Truck, smooth ride (non trd) great fuel econ for a truck. Very poor quality stereo in non trd version. Composite bed is great.
Functional and reliable
I have had many toyotas over the years and the prerunner has continued to be a reliable vehicle. It gets good gas milage for a toyota tacoma and is a safe truck to drive. I expect to have it for many years.
