I bought this truck new. Currently has 282,000 miles. Each year I say I am going to buy something new, but everything, EVERYTHING, still works on this truck. It still has the original clutch, alt, starter, etc. Only has oil and filter changes. I've grown attatched to this vehilce.

I bought my truck brand new, almost 7 years ago. I want to buy another Toyota but the one I own now is doing so well that I hate to spend the money on a new truck.

If you want a smooth ride we’ll buy something else! But if you want the most dependable vehicle that hauls a lot of stuff with very little maintenance buy a 1st gen Tacoma! 256k miles! Well here is the rub. Bought it at 10k miles from my disabled father in law on 2000. Every 3k oil change conventional 10 w 30. Brake pads, original shoes on back. 80k starter. 100 k spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, 130 lower ball joints, 200 k preventative mtc. Upper/ lower radiator hoses, radiator, water pump. 250k miles valve spring failure on cylinder #4. Blessed by local mechanic repaired for$375! Compression on all 4 cylinders was 175! 180 is new engine. Truck NEVER has used a drop of oil between oil changes! My ONLY criticism is at approximately every 130k miles the lower driver’s side ball joint comes loose and the wheel falls off. This is unfortunately common to these 1st gen Tacomas. The Taco has had to have the bed and a fender replaced due to people running into me. However the fixes I did my self farming out the paint jobs. The Tacoma paid for itself. I love my truck. If it were stolen I would buy another! Solid as a rock! 11/19/2019 Update. Had wiring issue to the distributor. Great mechanic fixed it at reasonable cost. Had the original 270 K mile alternator rebuilt and replaced crank angle sensor, and distributor. None of these parts were faulty but shade tree mechanic me guessing mr problem incorrectly. Parts are reasonable on Amazon. A large truck hit the front passenger side fender. I replaced it with E bay fender and a healthy check from the guys insurance

1995 Toyota Tacoma: It Will Survive Nuclear War !

I bought my little "Old Gold" Tacoma when it was 4 years old in 1999. Had 21,000 miles then -- now 151,000. Extended cab LX trim with air conditioning. 2.4L 4-cyl and 5-speed manual transmission. Great knockaround utility vehicle. Perfect for my suburban homeowner needs. It is the most reliable, most bulletproof vehicle I've ever owned. When we humans all die off, the aliens from the Planet Ralphamador will land on Earth, and the Tacoma will still be sitting here. They'll be curious what the "key" does, turn it and it will start right up, and they'll say, "These Earthlings were a primitive society, but this transportation module isn't bad." (BTW, this quote works best if you do your best Robin Williams "Mork from Ork" impersonation). My wife complains that it doesn't have power side mirrors, and that she has to reach all the way over to re-adjust them for her. She keeps harping for me to get rid of it. However, she drives it maybe once or twice per year, so when she yammers about getting rid of the truck, I just hear "wah, wah, wah" like the old Charlie Brown Peanuts TV shows. Then I tell her that she's driving a $50K SUV (an expensive maintenance pain in the ass), so while I love you, just zip yer' lip. My smartass adult son claims the truck sitting in the driveway is depressing property values in the neighborhood. But then when he want to haul his or his friends crap, guess what he always borrows? Besides, it's a great teaching example to millennials on how we geezers from the Last Century had to crank the windows up and down, use road maps, and use a third pedal on the floor to make the vehicle go. Now GET OFF MY LAWN, you Edmunds whippersnappers! :-)

Best Truck

BEST TRUCK OUT THERE, 05/31/2007

I bought this truck used in 1996 with 12000K. This is the best truck out there now. I put 260,000 miles on it and it has never left me stranded. The only complaint is the ride is bumpy now, but it's very strong for a 4 cylinder. The bed is very strong. People underestimate my truck when they see it, but when they see the load I put on it, they are surprised. Now I bought a new 2006 Tundra top of the line limited with TRD pkg. I would recommend Toyota to everyone who is looking for reliability, economy and gas mileage.
