Used 2008 Toyota Highlander Consumer Reviews
2008 Toyota Highlander Base FWD
I went looking for a sensible SUV and found it. I didn't need 4WD in the area I live in nor do I have kids, let alone 5, so I opted out of the 3rd row seat. The V6 has all the power I need though torque steer is somewhat noticeable. I'm 6 foot, yet there's plenty of room. The center dash/console is so well laid out, I felt as if it was made for me. Steering position is good, feel is a little soft though. Braking is OK, a bit soft as well. Transmission is super smooth, but an extra gear would be nice for a bump up in fuel economy. You may have noticed my 8 rating for economy, I'll explain below.
Very Impressed!
We bought the 2008 Highlander - upsizing from a 1999 Honda CRV. Needed more space with new baby and 2 dogs. It is great! Very comfortable, gas mileage is decent - about the same as my Honda but this is a larger vehicle and a V6. The V6 is impressive. We took the Highlander to the mountains for the first time and hit a patch of ice unexpectedly and started to slide. It reacted quickly and self stabilized, with the added kinda distracting feature of warning noises.

2008 Highlander
Very pleased with all aspects of this car. Gas mileage exceeded our expectations, getting 25.5 mpg on a recent 600 mile trip. We got just under 28 mpg on the way back. So far we seem to be averaging 20 mpg around town. Kids love the room and the third row seat. Great ride, quiet and comfortable. We're glad this vehicle came with the back up camera without having to get the nav. system. We looked for a long time and at lots of different cars, this easily was the best car for us.
Great Vehicle
My wife and I were looking for a new crossover SUV and it came down to the Ford Explorer and the Toyota Highlander. We just bought it last weekend. I chose the Toyota because my previous experiences with their vehicles have been very positive, and I perceived the Toyota to be a better value. The looks are stunning, it rides like a Lexus, and the build quality is superior to the Ford's. If you drive her easy, you can easily get 25 mpg city/highway (not bad for a 270 hp, 5000 lb vehicle). We also needed something that would last us 10 years or more, so I gravitated towards the Toyota.
Love my Highlander
After a year and a half of driving our Highlander we have no complaints so far. We are averaging 18.8 mpg in the city and 23 mpg hwy. Good JBL stereo, quick acceleration and comfortable handling. We drive to the ski hill Sat and Sun and with winter tires we haven't had any problems. The AWD works well in combination with winter tires. Lots of room for my family. I would definitely buy highlander again and recommend this vehicle.
