Best Vehicle I've Ever Owned

Super reliable. I bought it at 135k miles when it was 13 years old. It hasn't needed any work, and still drives like a new SUV. It is a great size for city driving, but hauls a lot between the fold-down seats and the rack on top. Mine has the 3.3L engine, which is smooth and powerful. Gas mileage is not great, but a decent trade-off. Super comfortable seats for long drives. And feels like you sit up pretty high in traffic, even though it's a small SUV. It definitely has the smooth ride of a larger vehicle. JBL sound system is awesome. Lots of light in the cabin, even with privacy glass, but I love the sliding sunroof. No signs of wear on the interior, which is impressive. Apparently the 03-07 Highlanders were built in Japan at the height of their quality-matters corporate mindset. I've taken it off-road many times in Colorado and it rides well and is capable on rocky roads. The all-wheel drive is super stable in ice and snow. Recently, someone hit my Highlander and the insurance company wants to total it. If I can't get it repaired, I want to purchase another just like it! 2006 model is awesome.

We got my highlander back in 08’ when I was 8 years old. It started driving it back in 2016 when I got my license. It got me all through high school and it is still getting me back and forth from college which is a 2 hr commute. My highlander just hit 200,000 miles and is still going strong. Only major repairs were cat converter and shocks and struts. Other than that, my highlander has never failed me.

Missing refinement

Solid but plain-Jane SUV. Excellent power train. Comfortable interior. Good layout of instruments and controls. However, it is missing on refinements in the interior. Leather is thin and cheap, wrinkles easily. Hard to clean. Dashboard finish is thin and flakes off if even nicked. Radio antenna is weak and causes poor reception. Too many functions on light and wiper pods, which are unlit and hard to work at night. Cannot see instrument cluster even in daylight conditions. My first Toyota and I'm disappointed with the overall chintziness of interior finishes.

best car I ever purchased bought it July 2006 it has 167900 miles on it. I had other vehicles to go along with this one but none and I mean none measured up to this suv. No repair bills in 15years tires belts oil and a tune up that's it. Best car O ever had. If I listed all the cars I had in those 15 years you would not believe me. So I still have the paperwork to when I bought it in glove box.

Although I have not had the HL for very long, I know I made the right choice. I was previously considering the CRV and new RAV4, but the HL flat out blows them into the weeds in terms of comfort and utility. The Limited Model with leather seats and a few other options is basically a Lexus 330 for $12k less. Toyota is aggressively pricing these puppies. Materials and workmanship seem excellent. Sound system is very good. I needed one totally practical vehicle in the line-up and the HL nails it!
