Best SUV ever!

We bought the XLE Limited Hybrid and are very happy with it. Using the eco mode, we hit the 27 gallons per mile mark. Also, we are using B15 aka 88 gas which tends to be cheaper than unleaded (87). The front and second set of seats are roomy. However, the third row is very small. Also, hybrids will give great city mileage. However, no fuel savings in the Highway. This model gives the same 27 gallons per mile as the non hybrids. Only downside was the financing at the Maplewood Toyota dealership in Minnesota. Our credit score was 840 (excellent), and they got me a 72 month loan with a Bank at a 5.5 interest rate. I refinanced quickly within a few days with my credit union for the same period of time a 3.2 interest rate. Even if you don’t have a good credit, my advise is to get prequalified for the loan before you walk into the dealership.

Economically silly but morally superior

We won't ever make back on fuel savings the extra cost of the Hybrid, but is oil goes to $90/barrel it will be closer. Comfort is great, highway drive is very smooth. I like all the safety features, remote start and cargo capacity. This SUV is longer (1"-3") and lower (1"-3"?) than the 12 year old Honda Pilot it replace. Great sound system.

Pointers for Toyota

The location of usb ports and charging ports is inconvenient. Toyota should consider teaming with a navigation software supplier as the iPhone navigation works better than the car's. I would prefer a passenger front seat that includes lumbar support.

Immediately after purchase, I drove this 2018 car 5600 miles from Delaware to Seattle, Washington. Fit friends, an English Springer Spaniel and luggage. Thule bin on top. With or without the extra weight it never gets better than 25 mpg. But driving it is very pleasant, driver lumbar support, 2nd row captain's chairs, sturdy leather upholstery, and nice souns system brings it top marks from me. I always have the 3rd row down for cargo, dog crate. Dog, etc. I hope to drive this Highlander for years.

Solid do-everything vehicle, with a few demerits

Pros: * Dependable all-purpose vehicle; lots of space for hauling stuff, seats are easy to fold down flat * Good mileage for a vehicle this size, though nowhere near Prius levels of hybrid economy Cons: * I hate the passenger seat. Only have 4-way adjustability is ridiculous on a 40k+ vehicle (ours is the Hybrid Limited; only the highest level, Platinum, has full adjustability for front passenger) * JBL stereo is mediocre * Drivetrain kind of "moos" * Navigation system UI is laughable; can't imagine why anyone would want to use it instead of their phone. No Apple/Android integration in 2018. * Handling is a little wallowy, but then again I didn't buy this expecting a sports car
