Used 2005 Toyota Corolla LE 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl 5M) Consumer Reviews
Disappointed
I bought a Toyota because I'd heard good things about them. I can only hope they're reliability exceeds build quality. At 54,000 or so miles there began a pronounced rattling under the dash. By 56000 or so miles, there were more along with rattling in the rear of the cabin. The car I traded in was a Mitsubishi Eclipse with 310688 miles. The Toyota has more rattles at 56000 miles than the Eclipse with over 310,000. I did contact Toyota about this. By how their response read, they couldn't help because my car wasn't a Certified Pre-Owned. My next vehicle WON'T be a Toyota.
Excellent fuel economy, almost reliable
Everything runs great after 34000 miles. Smoothest ride in its class (which isn't saying much), although somewhat sluggish in handling and noisy on the highway. Driving position is very awkward if you are tall, although my 5'2" wife loves it. I wish we had the Japanese model in the US. (It has automatic climate control, vehicle stability and ABS standard, etc) Toyota reliability and quality is somewhat overrated. Mine came with dislodged window rubber from the factory. ECU replaced because engine didn't always start due to known factory defect on early 05 production. However, everything else is in excellent shape after 3 years of use, with no sign of wear.
Like it...but too noisy
Bought the car new. Took until about 18000 miles before it started getting good gas mileage 36-39 mpg mainly highway, so do not get discouraged, it does improve! Am very disappointed in the road noise and uncomfortable seats. The windows do not seal real well. If there is a good cross wind, the side mirrors produce a high- pitched whining noise. Would not recommend this car for highway commuters who spend more than 30 minutes on the interstate one-way. It is very good in the city and the road noise is not really a problem when driving at slower speeds. It is very peppy and fun to drive. Have had absolutely no problems with it.
Almost Perfect
Follow up review. Traded this car recently, needed a pickup. Probably best car I've ever owned. Never to the dealer. Only problem was the belt tensioner squeeked after 24k miles. Avg 34 mpg. Needed tires after 24k (the Goodyear Integrity's are budget based). Paid $14.5k and got $12k on trade-in (after 2 years and 38k miles). Unbelievable resale value in my opinion. Someone's going to get a great used car.
Toyota-the way to go but...
This is my third toyota. My first was the 2000 echo, my second is the 2001 4Runner and the 2005 is my third. I bought the corolla for it's great mileage and ofcourse, you can't go wrong with a toyota! Other not favorite features include no Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive, etc displays on your dashboard. The body is very weak. Someone hit my car when parked and the bumper caved in and I lost some plastic piece that goes where a light would be on a normal car. Now there's a bare hole. I love toyota but it could use improving. I think my echo had a better interior - sad.
