Great car but with a hint of unpredictability....

I've owned this car since April 2018. Didn't test drive because I was in such a rush to buy it. Started out great until I noticed that transmission had issues. Traffic on freeways really emphasizes the issue. If I'm going at a steady speed and let go of the gas I can feel each downshift. Passing by cars on the streets is like a game with life and death. You're either going to go so fast you might hit the car in front of you, or the car refuses to accelerate (which I solve with a quick tap on the brake, then hit the gas). I almost rear ended someone once, but was able to hit the brakes just in time, and for some reason the Pre Collision Warning did not go off at all. When turning the corners and hitting the gas, there is a noticeable delay (~2 seconds) until the car realizes that you want it to speed up. ALSO as a warning to other owners and drivers --> if there ever is a time where the Camry's automatic braking system kicks in and brakes for you to avoid a crash, look out for any rattling sounds you hear after. This happened to mine, and when I gently tapped on the gas it literally sounded like the car was scraping the ground, inching so slowly. I was so scared I crawled the rest of the way home on the freeway (thank goodness there was traffic, otherwise I would have been pulled over). I'm taking mine to Longo to see if they can help me fix this, if not I'll consider trading this in even though it is being financed. I'm not down for playing games with my life. Every dealership I go to seems to not have heard of the three active recalls for this vehicle right now. My VIN is not included but I feel like it is. If you're skeptical of my experience go to the NHTSA website and look up this car. Some individuals actually got hurt because of the unanticipated acceleration and absence of airbag inflation! Aside from that I'm in love with the interior, simple and sleek. Road noise is not deafening, and manages most potholes great.

Do not buy or lease this car if you are looking for reliable technology. I have a 2018 XLE Camry. The infotainment system is worse than a 1995 Garmin. Seriously, do not buy or lease this car if you expect reliable navigation or Bluetooth connectivity. You are forced to use Scout navigation. I have a note 9, previously had an S7 Edge. The navigation utilizes your phone by using an application called scout GPS. This app takes your phone over by always popping to the front if connected to the car. This is highly irritating if your are trying to start another app to play music or operate the phone in any way even if the car is stopped. It crashes and drains your battery as well. Not to mention, it will disconnect during your trips which can cause you to miss exits or streets. The Bluetooth is spotty too. There are times it will go into an infinite drop and connect loop until you either restart your phone or turn the car off and on. Also, I have issues where if someone accidentally dials you then hangs up immediately, but the car screen still registers the call, it can sometimes get stuck in a forever ringing noise that you cannot answer or decline. Even if you disconnect Bluetooth and remove your phone from the equation it will still continue to ring until the car is shut off and back on again. Good luck with restarting your car while your in the number one lane on the freeway or in a spot that isn't safe to pull over. The ring volume cannot be adjusted. This also prevents all other sounds or sources from working while stuck in infinite ring mode. Due to these issues, I will never purchase another Toyota. I've spoken with executives at Toyota and they were somewhat responsive but overall there isn't anything they can do. There is no plan to update the Entune system on previous models to use Android auto or apple play. You literally have to purchase a newer model car to get new technology. This is beyond frustrating as the software in this car is completely upgradeable by design. They are also aware of how terrible the Entune system is and admitted that most people don't like it. If you want better technology go buy a used 2005 Civic. It will operate with muss less frustration.

I have seen some reviews about acceleration concerns with this vehicle. I have not had any issues with this car. Off the line in sport mode and using the paddle shifters, this car moves to the front of the line. Torque steer is noticeable especially if you turn off the traction control but it allows the transmission to work better. Very comfortable interior and for a Camry, it's definitely an upgrade for the midsize segment. I test drove a Accord 2.0 touring and did not get the same response as I got from the Camry. Not to mention that the fuel economy are identical in both and with a proven engine and drivetrain, the Camry was the obvious choice for me.

My wife’s car as she’s smaller and shorter than myself. Gas mileage was an impressive 40mpg on a long trip. Heated seats and separated heaters are a plus. All sensors take time to use but we’re helpful. 10,000 mile oil changes and service by Toyota I am looking forward to. Reliability and value are the best attributes. Resale should be good but will probality never sell. Cons! Edmunds should mention a couple of items I would disagree with more. Getting into the car is not easy like dropping into a gocart. The front seats are NOT DESIGNED for any one tall with long legs. The leg support leaves a lot to be desired on a trip more than 2 hours. The Buick’s I’ve owned are much more comfortable and supportive when driving. When closing the door it sounds tinny and I understand there making them lighter but a Lacrosse is solid in comparison. The drivers wheel is too far away from your arms if you’re taller and have the seat is back farther. I’m only 5’-11”. The front wheel drive is not adequate for winter driving and AWD should have been an option earlier then 2019. The cruise control has a cancel button and it should be on and off as the cruise switches require too many steps and distraction while driving in my opinion. I’ve purchased 4 Camrys, 5 Buick's, a Previa, 5 GMC trucks, a Taurus the last 30 years. Most vehicles I handed down and have had over 200,000 miles that I maintained as my point of reference. Problems with uneven tire wear Tires cupping at 10,000 miles. Purchased new tires at 25,000 but all tires Rotated, balanced and alignment was perfect. Toyota and Bridgestone disavowed any responsibility. Road noise is noticeable. The body and suspension are minimally designed for weight which makes it a problem for noise and alignments. Not quiet the solid feel like a Buick. Toyota making cheaper cars with less warranty. The automatic high beams are a pleasure. The gas mileage in the winter is 33mpg. Goodyear Wealth-ready helped in the winter for driving but this is not a winter car unless you have AWD I believe. The retractable sky light has had several problems and would not get unless you want to pay for repairs every time you use it.

I had may new vehicle's over year's more than I have need Ford's chevy dodge on the dodge I learned real fast is that if you want to get Ram,ed buy two dodge 3500 HD trucks. So I owned five Camrys over the years and this is the best one I have ever had 42 miles per gallon, smooth ride and easy to drive and many safety features But if the most important thing in your life is your smart phone then the car is not for you. In my case phone's are not. So the best all round car ever.
