The Gran Coupe is the four-door variant of the BMW 4 Series, for those who want the engaging driving dynamics of a coupe but the practicality of a four-door sedan. The 4 Series is a little larger than the BMW 3 Series, and while the back seat is a bit cramped, its hatchback design allows you to stow large items in the trunk. There are a handful of small changes inside and outside the Gran Coupe, starting with the powertrains. Both the 2.0-liter turbo-four in the 430i and the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six in the M440i have added a new 48-volt hybrid system. That boosts the M440i's output to 386 horsepower, while the 430i stays at 255 hp. Visual changes include a slightly tweaked grille design and new Laserlight taillights. The Gran Coupe's infotainment system gets the latest iDrive software (8.5), which has a steep learning curve but is packed with new features.

The 2025 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe is a four-door hatchback with a coupe-like swept roofline. This design distinguishes it from the traditionally styled 3 Series sedan, as well as the 4 Series coupe and convertible. The Gran Coupe is available in four trim levels: 430i, 430i xDrive, M440i and M440i xDrive. Both 430i trims use a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine combined with a 48-volt mild hybrid motor (255 horsepower, 294 lb-ft of torque). The M440i trims feature a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder with a 48-volt mild hybrid motor (386 hp, including 11 hp of boost from the mild hybrid motor, and 398 lb-ft). An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard. The 430i and M440i trims are rear-wheel-drive and the two xDrive trims are all-wheel-drive.
