I have had my 98 camry for >6 years. The only problem I had was the water pump went out at 80k miles and took the timing belt with it. My wife started driving the kids around in this car and made me drive her new Jeep Grand Cherokee. She figured I was insured for more.

I bought my 1998 camry with a 170 k miles on it I believe it had one or two owners before me it was well maintenanced and taken care of. It lasted me right at 300,000 Miles.the only reason why it lasted only at 300,000 miles is because the lifters were knocking and it eventually seized up on me but it was knocking for about two or three months. I did my own repairs to it I did maintenance it but there was a couple times I ran it with almost no oil in it because it had blow-by in my number 2 cylinder I believe and it was burning oil so I would put a thicker oil in it so it wouldn't burn as much because I think it needed a valve job. I replaced many things in it but it's only because I was in a mechanical shop class at college so I was using my car to get credits. I ran it hard and I put many miles on it within those 8 years that I owned it. It's really good on gas got 2.2 l 4-cylinder does have some get up to be honest with you I think it's faster and has more get up then the 2.4 liter I have now in a 2004 Camry. I would definitely say that Camrys are definitely reliable and economic cars. I would highly recommend them

We have now logged 82000 miles on our Camry. It still drives as smooth as the day driven off the dealrship lot ( maybe even better after replacing original tires with Michelins). Still on original set of brakes. This is a great family sedan with plenty of room for 5 adults. Huge trunk! This car is a testament to Toyota's commitment to building quality vehicles that will run forever. Toyota has earned my business for many years to come.

Great car, always reliable, however, the suspension is a little noisy in very cold weather. Highly recommend for a used car purchase. Great on gas mileage
