Luxury pocket rocket!

I looked at the Mercedes 300, BMW 5 series, and the Lexus for my next car. I couldn't justify the pricing points of the German ubervehicles with the amentities they offered and, being in the mountains of New Mexico, was uncertain of the service quality I could expect. I looked at the Avalon on the way to the Lexus dealer and that, as the song says, '. . .was all she wrote. I chose the Touring model for its firmer ride, larger tires, and different shift points and haven't been disappointed. It is simply awesome to take a 35 mph mountain switchback at 60+. And to arrive at your destination without the usual aches, stiffness, and tingling nether regions.

Just picked up our Avalon Limited 2006. It had 44 miles on it and we got a good deal, $500 over invoice, no navsystem, didn't need it, but had the dealer put in XM radio, which we DID NEED! We live in boonies and regular radio reception is terrible. Love the feel and roominess. The faux wood trim in car makes it seem elegant. The car is extremely quiet and the sound system is awesome. Had to get used to not having a key and starting the car by pushing a button. The car is insulated from any rode noise and the ride is exceptionally smooth. We bought the car because of Toyota reliablity, roominess, and handling. Of course the price was right.

Got ready to drive away from driveway and looked back to see all the oil drained out of my car. It's Sunday and will have to wait until tomorrow to see what the dealership will do for me. Out of warranty and hope the recall will cover repair. Wish me luck!

This car is way different from my 2000 Avalon (which looked like a grandpa car). The 2005/06 is hot looking and had the power to match almost any car on the road. The torque is huge for a 6-cylinder and the mileage is great for a 268 hp engine. The only problem is getting used to the computerized controls (braking and accelerator). The computer programming causes annoying shifting and some delays in reaction times.

After 16,000 miles, this car has NOT had any quality-related problem requiring a trip back to the dealership. Haven't experienced any sluggish performance in either the engine nor transmission as mentioned in some of the forum's posts. Very smooth ride and quiet in city & highway driving. Took quite a while to get that driver's seat adjusted just right. So much interior room without the closed in feeling like you get inside the Acura TL or Mercedes E320. A lot of car for $$$ less then Lexus. Once you start using the smart key, there is no returning to traditional car keys.
