May be the best sedan for the price . .

2006 Toyota Avalon XLS 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 5A)

Though other automakers may offer a model that beats the Avalon in one or two areas, taken as a whole, factoring in power, ergonomics, features, build quality, reputation for reliability, and fuel economy, this may well be the BEST 4-door sedan under $35,000 on the market. (A Lexus 430 is better, but though it’s pushing twice the price it’s not nearly twice the car.) As to my actual experience, there was a little “jerkiness” in the shifting initially, but by 1500 miles it had smoothed out to near CVT levels. I’m getting 25+ mpg on regular gas in what I’d term “hill country suburban” driving, excellent for a sedan with performance rivaling what passed for a “muscle car” in the late ‘70s.

Holy Moly: Headlights!

I have an 05 Avalon that I bought (traded in my 01 Avy) and I'm less than thrilled. The thing has had some some problems that the dealer can't seem to fix: groans, engine hesitation, rattles. My mileage is much worse than my old Avalon. I like the new power but, come on, I'm 58 years old! I don't race. I wish you could get a smaller more efficient motor. But here's the big bummer. I hit a deer one morning two weeks ago. I have the HID lights. One headlight was broken. The headlight cost close to $1,000!!!! My insurance company picked up half the tab (I have a 500 deductable) but oh my, I don't look forward to replacing these lights in the future when they burn out -- or I hit another deer.

Did some serious research before making my purchase. No other automaker will give you as many options and value as the new Avalon Limited. Vented seats, Nav., laser cruise, reclining rear seats, keyless entry & start. The HID headlights and advanced airbag system is a standard safety feature. The craftmanship of the Avalon's interior is very refined & luxurious. Gas mileage, handling and acceleration is excellent. Satellite radio to go along with the 360 watt JBL Audio System is a must. This new Avalon is fast and smooth. But easy-up on the seq. manual gear shifts, and just step on the gas with the auto shift.

Luxury pocket rocket!

2006 Toyota Avalon Touring 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 5A)

I looked at the Mercedes 300, BMW 5 series, and the Lexus for my next car. I couldn't justify the pricing points of the German ubervehicles with the amentities they offered and, being in the mountains of New Mexico, was uncertain of the service quality I could expect. I looked at the Avalon on the way to the Lexus dealer and that, as the song says, '. . .was all she wrote. I chose the Touring model for its firmer ride, larger tires, and different shift points and haven't been disappointed. It is simply awesome to take a 35 mph mountain switchback at 60+. And to arrive at your destination without the usual aches, stiffness, and tingling nether regions.
