Still Like New

We bought this car four years ago and it has been nothing but reliable for us. Starts easily even in bitter cold. We haven't had to do anything other than routine maintenance to this car. Smooth ride. Roomy backseat - three kids can fit easily (two with carseats). Nice trunk space. Ride has gotten a bit noisier through the years, but is not unacceptable for a ten year old car. We have about 170K on this right now and will keep it for as long as it will go. Our Camry had 250k on it when we finally sold that (was still running and in great condition), so we have high hopes for the Avalon.

This car was on a lease that a friend of mine turned in he bought a new Avalon. It had about 30,000 mi on it and i now have 207,000 and it is still a great car. Have only put on tires, R&l CV joints and new struts. Have done routine maintenance change transmission oil and eng oil every 4,000 and still get almost 30 MPG. I have no intention of buying a new car and would take it on a long trip today. I have had this car in Drive so much the bulb has burned out on the dash

302K and Still Going

I purchased this car new in 1996. It was driven daily over the past 14 years. Only replaced brakes, and normal wear stuff. Just recently replaced transmission with one that had 145k miles. Just replaced both knock sensors to get the engine light off. It has been a great pleasure to drive. Just wondering if I can get it up to 400K miles. Due to the great experience I've had with this vehicle, I'll probably buy another one when this one stops running.

Toyota is the Best

I bought the XLS brand new in 96 when I was single. I've since married and had 2 children and today at 189,000 miles my baby is still kickin. I agree with everyone that the maintenance is about $5,000.00 or less because I've spent around $3,000 so far. What I love the most is the reliability to start in 10-20 degree weather and I've never had a breakdown ever. It's roomy enough for the kids to hop in/out of their booster seats and at 5'2" I can adjust the seat forward or up/down to match my body length. I also love the lumbar that adjust nicely. The only thing I miss is a CD player because it was not that big in 96 but I have a personal CD player that kicks when I connect it to my car stereo.

A car that refuses to die.

I've owned my 1996 Toyota Avalon XL for a while now. Originally purchased as a beater car to keep mileage down on my 2010 VW Touareg, 2010 VW CC, 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG. Since due to my job I drive 30k miles easily in a year. This car has definitely been the most reliable car I have owned. It has decent power and I'm surprised at how comfortable the back seats are. The 1MZFE 3 litre v6 is definitely reliable and hardly gives any issues with regular maintenance. The drivetrain in general is a statement to its quality. 352k miles and the ride is still smooth, acceleration and power available when I need it, tight handling, overall just a great running car. Only major repairs I've made are timing belt/water pump which at this mileage is perfectly understandable. I have a small valve cover gasket oil leak probably due to the mileage and age of the car. Which I will take care of along with spark plugs and wires. Parts are cheap and maintenance is simple, its hard for me to believe any modern car will last as long.
