Wow what a decision
So....after waiting 14 years to purchase a new car, I finally made the decision to buy my first Toyota ever. I still have my Honda Accord (2000) with 167,000 miles on it. Still running well. I looked at Mercedes, Audi, BMW (albeit not in great length due to price) Lexus, VW, Acura, Honda (again), and yes even the Chevy (Cruze). After careful consideration, I chose the Limited Avalon hybrid. Even after making the decision to go with the Avalon, I gave each one of the above mentioned cars another shot at my garage. lol. However time and time again, the Avalon hybrid kept coming up the winner. I would like to say that one of the above's came close, but in reality, the Hybrid out did them
Smooth Operator
I don’t drive down the road. I glide. This car is so quiet and smooth. The 17-inch wheels and 111-inch wheel base take bumpy roads in stride. I gave my dad a ride in the Avalon recently and he said it rode as nice as his Mercedes E-Class. Everything is tight and solid. The hybrid system transitions from electric to gas seamlessly. I average around 39 mpg in the warm weather and 34 in the cold. The ventilated front seats are comfortable and keep me from sweating out a business suit in the summer. In the winter the heated seats warm up quickly and keep me nice and toasty. The interior has enough room I can lay the front seat back cushion down and take a nap at a rest area on a long trip. The spacious back seats are also heated with plenty of leg room. The Entune stereo/satellite/navigation system takes some getting used to but works well with one minor annoyance- when I put the car in reverse the backup camera comes on and a black strip appears across the top of the screen blocking my view telling me my iPhone is connected. I appreciate the lock/unlock sensors on the front driver’s and passenger’s side door handles- no more fumbling around with the key fob as long as it’s on your person. The exterior of the car is a beautiful sculpted design that’s not too flashy. The car is best described as understated luxury. The only features I wish it had are a heated steering wheel and fold down rear seats. You’ve got to step up to the 2019 model to get those. Overall, the Avalon is a dependable good-looking full-size automobile with zero to sixty times of eight seconds and decent gas mileage. What more could you ask for?

first luxurious car that does not break the bank account
I tested Mercedez c300, audi 4, bmw, lexus. I was ready to buy the lexus HybridES 300 when my toyota dealer called me to try the Avalon. I could not see the difference between the lexus and the avalon. Smooth drive, great acceleration, comfortable. I bought it with all the options. what a beautiful luxurious car. So far on highway i get 38.5 miles per gallon. did not go to boston yet to check the city mileage. I am very pleased and saved a few bucks on the purchased too.
Fantastic car - one year update
After owning this car for one year and 16,000 miles I I must say it is the best car I have owned. I have owned many cars. Among them Corvette, Lexus, Mercedes, and several BMW's and although each has their own claim to fame the Avalon hybrid Limited overall is the best. Comfort, quietness, interior and exterior styling and quality, handling, power and features, and best of all mileage put this in its own league. I consistently meet or beat EPA mileage estimates even at freeway speeds of 80 mph plus. I can easily travel for several hours without stopping and in complete comfort. My next car in three or four years will likely either be another Avalon hybrid or the Lexus variant.
Almost Perfect Sedan: Long Range Machine!
Other than 2 interior minor problems due to cheap materials, this car has been perfect! I average 39+ MPG without babying it. I leave it in "Eco" mode unless in the mountains -- then I put it into "Sport" mode and have a great time shortening the winding roads! "Normal" & "EV" modes are worthless. Why I left Mercedes E Class: The limited Avalon has more safety features tan Mercedes even offers yet is over $20K less out the door. Front facing RADAR makes driving extremely comfortable. I arrive relaxed after a few hours of California Interstate Insanity... set the RADAR cruise to 75 MPH and have satellite music playing softly. Six thousand mile trip was flawless.
