I bought this vehicle in 1992. It had 5000km on it at the time. I have had it ever since and it has served me well. I have 400,000km (approx. 250,000miles) on it . From a comfort point of view it's like new. There are no squeeks or rattles. The motor is very quite. My biggest complaint is the tail gate and rear bumper. The tail gate has had two motors in it and presently doesn't work. The bumper has disappeared from rust. Mechanically, I had a new head gasket at 90,000km and another at around 325,000km

I love this car so much. My Grandpa just gave it to me for my birthday. I have only had it for a few months but i can already tell that it is a quality vehicle. When i got it it had 69000 miles on it. In two months i have had no problems even though it just sat around for almost a year. I had its fluids flushed and replaced as well as the battery and belts. I would definatly buy another, but for now i will use what ive got.

A real trooper

I found this vehicle to be tough and dependable. The roll rate is a little excessive, but this is probably more due to the progressive rear springs and oversized 31" tires. Also, it couldn't move out of it's own way. But as a tough vehicle for work or play, it's an excellent choice. My sister backed into me with a Corolla, which suffered $3000 in damage, while I took less than $100 worth of damage. This vehicle is TOUGH. The downside is that the old 4Runner's had a few mechanical flaws, such as a problem with the rear window mechanism and back end sag.

The only downside is the lack of power. Gas pedal is very stiff.

This car is a wild beast. There is literally NOTHING the 4runner can't handle. My friends and I have taken her through streams, rock climbing, mudding and playing in the snow. I am so mean to this car, yet it has never once failed me. It keeps going no matter what you throw at it. Lots of room, reliable engine and it just looks so bad ass! I think it's important that you get the manual version though, because automatics aren't as much fun and don't give as much control. If you want a car that will keep trooping past 250k miles, this is the one for you. Take care of it and you will love it forever.
