Used 2004 Subaru Impreza Wagon Consumer Reviews
Fine Vehicle
I have leased a 97 Imprezza for 3 years. I bought a 2000 Imprezza and drove it until I bought the current car. The only thing that has ever gone wrong was a burned out LED on the cruise control switch on the 2000. I lived with that with no problem. These are wonderful small cars getting an easy 32+ mpg on the highway. I will be moving on to a Forester because I am getting old and like the additional safety
Subarus are truly at home in Alaska
I've driven subies in Alaska for about 18 years..before most people ever heard of them. The main reason is they long ago perfected reliable all wheel drive. Finally, they added fun to the equation! I got the wagon so I'd have a little more room for camping gear, the roof rack, and the fold-down rear seats. It's also cheaper to insure then the sedan, even though it's basically identical. Go figure. I've only had it about a month, but it's a fun ride. More power then anyone really needs in a car this size, but that's why it's fun. Easily became the car where I'd be tooling along and look down and notice I was going 85 instead of 65.

Don't want a shovel-sized hood scoop?
With Subaru touting its WRX almost to the exclusion of all other Impreza models, you may feel a little funny at first leaving the dealer lot at LESS than 100 miles an hour, but you cannot go wrong with an Outback Sport! The non-turbo 2.5L engine is VERY peppy, the auto trans a much better match AND the Outback trim very eye-catching. Not to mention you will save about $4,000! I love this car AND the smart decision I made in buying this less popular Impreza!
Don't hesitate to test-drive-purchase
I think of this car as an Abrams tank for the Average Joe. It is reasonably priced, bullet proof and has turbine engine-like performance. I feel quite safe in nearly any driving conditions and very much enjoy the reliability Subaru is famous for.
One year later
Been a good little car and lots of fun to drive when driven hard. Fuel economy has been about 16/27 so far. Fine on long trips and it loves the corners. Car is a bit of work in the city, though. Always working to keep the revs in the power band and the constant rowing through the gearbox while going from one red light to another is tiring. But, that's more my problem than the car's so no penalty there.
