Used 2009 Subaru Forester Consumer Reviews
Smart Buy
Good value, drives more car like than truck like. Car drives well and has good power with turbo. A person could get buy with out turbo, but may be a little under powered for some. Gas mileage avg 19-21 mpg back and forth to work. Transmission and all wheel drive work fine. Hood scoop and chrome like pedals and foot rest are a little kiddish on a Forester. People looking at Forester would want power passenger seat more. Good handling for SUV, seems nimble. Rear window overhang creates more dust and dirt on window and would be better without that design. Traded in BMW 325xi which is the most overrated car I have ever driven. Glad I purchased Forester over Toyota or Honda's equiv.
Own Subaru since 1974
I lived in Canada, It is my third Subaru, The first was an Impreza bought in 1994. Bought another one (Impreza) in 2004. Subies are good cars and this one is the best.

Fun to drive
After exhaustive test drives and visits to a variety of dealerships, two small suvs stood out. The new Ravs are nice, especially the 6 cylinder, but the 2009 Subie XT was the ticket. Had to drive over 100 miles to get the color (sage green) we wanted. This car is fun-fun to drive. It will go fast, like changing lanes and passing 18 wheelers in a less than 3 seconds. Our 2002 Rav could only try. Fit/finish is up to the toyota standards and thats good. But the ergonomics are much better. All around visibility is great. Tight U-turner.
Mostly Pleased
I have had Subarus in the past. Test drove the cheaper model and interior was very sparse and seats uncomfortable. Went with the X limited with upgrade package and leather. Have about 1K miles on it and gas mileage is only between 18-19 mpg. Hope this will improve as car breaks in. Drove vehicle in a few recent snowfalls, and car handled great with exc. traction. Got Subaru remote start system as an dealer option, first unit was defective, took dealer a week to get replaced, works fine now. Seat heaters work great, but controls are in an awkward spot. Why no telescoping wheel or compass standard on limited? Overall pleased with car and value.
Great Car
I've never owned a Subaru before and I can see why most people who own them think they are great. I can't say anything bad about it and with the snow that we have had in the midwest this winter, I am very impressed by how well it handles deep snow. I have owned several Jeeps and it is every bit as good in the snow as any Jeep I have ever owned, but with much better fuel economy. This is the best suv bargain out there.
