Better than expected
I was looking for a small SUV for my commute to work and running errands. I drive over 16,000 miles annually, so I wanted something with decent gas mileage, but was safe and reliable with AWD. I narrowed my search down to the Honda HRV, Honda CRV, Subaru Crosstrek, and Subaru Forester. The HRV had the cheapest overall price, but the interior was also cheap and that's being kind. The USB plugs and space for cell phones was below the center console. It was the oddest location I have ever seen for plugging in and storing electronic devices. I also thought the seats were uncomfortable, which is not good when you have almost an hour commute each way to work. I was so disappointed in the HRV, I didn't even take it for a test drive. The CRV was everything the HRV wasn't. The interior was laid out well, seats were comfortable. Great vehicle overall. But, it was bigger and more expensive than I wanted to pay (around $25k). I test drove the new Crosstrek thinking I would like the Forester better. My wife and I were impressed with the comfort of the seats and how quiet the car was. The interior was well organized and easy to use. The only thing missing in the Premium version that I would like to have is a rear vent for AC and heat. I did test drive the Forester, but I don't think it compared well to the new Crosstrek. If you are thinking about a Forester, I would recommend waiting for the redesigned version coming next year. So far I have driven 3,000 miles and I am getting about 32 MPG in mixed driving, which is better than expected. As noted in other reviews, the acceleration is adequate. Your not going to win any races, but that's not why I bought the car. If you look at other small SUVs in the segment, you'll notice they are just as slow. If you want something faster get the CRV or the Turbo Forester. Personally, I would rather have the gas mileage. Very happy with the purchase and I would recommend you take a look if you are considering a small SUV. Great for commuting to work or for small families.

Wow
We've had our 2018 Crosstrek Limited for about two weeks, we love it! Traded in a 2015 truck to downsize a bit but didn't want to lose the outdoor adventure options that trucks provide. I can already tell we made an excellent choice. It was surprisingly hard to find an available '18 Crosstrek in any trim level in the PHX area that either wasn't reserved or already purchased. Also wasn't intending on a fully loaded Limited, but this was what came up so....oh well, guess we're getting a Limited! I had a completely trashed old Subaru in college with at least 200,000 miles on it, rusted floor and body falling apart, but that thing started up every morning and drove strong for the whole time I had it. Drove it to the junkyard after graduation, still running strong. Always impressed with that little car, this Crosstrek is lightyears beyond and I have no doubt it will drive for a very long time. Excellent design, love the refreshened interior and gauges, seats are wonderful, back seat seems roomy and comfy. Eyesight and all the driver support systems are so well thought out and better than some of my colleagues vehicles that cost twice as much. Harmon Kardon sound system is superb, a/c system works fantastic. Drives very easy, quiet and smooth. Doors open wide, back storage very adequate, the back hatch area floor is a bit shallower than I expected, but not a detriment. It might seem that way because of the 8+ inches of ground clearance, it puts the back bumper higher than other brands, not a problem though. Back seats fold almost flat. Interior fit and finish is very strong, way better than other brands with similar models. The first 2 tanks of gas we're averaging 30.5 mpg with mixed driving, loving that! Our truck was lucky to average 19. If I had to gripe about anything so far is getting used to the a/c and app controls and all of the menu options, but that is hardly a complaint. The Bluetooth seems to work well, Apple CarPlay is pretty good, it seems like the music pauses for a split second every once in awhile, maybe my USB cord is getting old, or a CarPlay software update in the future might solve that. Overall so very happy with the Crosstrek. We are leasing but I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this at lease end if it continues to impress, residual value on the Crosstrek is higher than any comparable Toyota and Honda. Count us as huge Subaru fans

Absolutely Impressed
I've test-driven 15 vehicles over the last 8 months, needing something mainly for commuting into the city and ability to take my wife and daughter, or a friend and two bags of golf clubs. I live in Minnesota so AWD was important, but since it's just me most of the time I wanted something sporty with great technology, stereo, and every safety feature possible as I tend to keep my vehicles a long time. The reviews mentioning the small engine scared me away at first, but after owning it for three weeks I have yet to feel like I need more power. The Harman Kardon stereo is excellent, the technology is intuitive with a very crisp display, and driving the vehicle is just plain fun. We got the fully loaded Limited trim and glad we did. I test-drove the Alltrack, Mazda CX-5, even some AWD Infiniti's, Audis, Volvos and I feel like I got virtually everything I wanted in the Crosstrek that would have cost another $15-$20k in one of the luxury brands we were considering. Great vehicle, great buying experience, and already very attached to my Crosstrek!

Very safe car!
My husband and I are over 70. This is our second Crosstrek. I was having mobility issues. I'm short. He's tall, very tall. We both can get in and out of the Crosstrek with ease. We love the way it handles and the great gas mileage. We wrecked our first Crosstrek by hitting a deer on the four lane. The safety of the car is awesome. Although the car was totaled, we suffered no injuries. It is a very sporty car. We like that. Loving the Bluetooth feature.

Yes, only 2 weeks old
So I can't comment on the maintenance cost, other than the first two years being free. Nor on the resale value, which I hear is excellent, though I can't possibly know about that. I did not get the navigation, but with Apple Car Play, it comes with my iPhone which shows on the radio screen. I opted for the Premium because I prefer cloth seats. The Sunshine Orange with black cloth seats and orange stitching is gorgeous. The car handles like a dream, it feels like I am driving a sports car, or a race car even. It totally hugs the road, especially going around tight turns like freeway onramps here in southern California. The Crosstrek also has plenty of pep, so I don't know where Edmunds review is coming from. I have no problem getting on the freeways or toll roads. It definitely is not 10 seconds, or even close to that, for 0 to 60. And passing is not a problem. It easily handle 80 mph on the toll roads, including going up some steep hills. A friend rode in the back seat today and commented that the rear seat beat the rear seats in my 2011 RAV4 by a mile for comfort. I definitely see a long time love affair with this car coming up.

Outstanding value; amazingly impressed after 4 mo.
After having two Acura TSXs over the last 12 years, I wanted a more functional car that was able to transport dogs and would help me/friends get out of the city for hiking/skiing. I compared it to the new X3, GLC, Q5 and could not justify the additional $25k. I live in a downtown, city environment and the car is super easy to park and maneuver in crowded streets. The car rides extremely well and also tracks well for a vehicle with 8.7" of ground clearance. The EyeSight safety suite's adaptive cruise control makes my commute a breeze. The all wheel drive instills confidence in rainy/snowy conditions. The optional Harman/Kardon sound system's sound imaging is superb -- I just realized that it didn't have subwoofers like my previous Acuras -- sounds very good. I am checking nearly 36 MPG on longer drives and nearly 30 MPG in a combination of traffic and the Parkway. Some folks have commented that it's underpowered and if you're coming from a torque-heavy turbocharged engine you might agree. But the engine is totally acceptable and the CVT does a really nice job of extracting all available power. Very pleased and could not be happier.

2018 Subaru Crosstrek Premium w/CVT
This 2018 Crosstrek is a GREAT CAR, it rides and handles great especially on curvy roads like mountains due to its STANDARD AWD. Fuel economy is really really GREAT, went to Lake Arrowhead and got an average of 30 MPG. Also all the safety features, we purchased our with the Eyesight feature and works great when combined with the cruise control. So far our car has performed great and given us great fuel economy and not to mention the overall safety of 5 stars. Would greatly recommend anyone to test drive the 2018 Crosstrek if your looking for a Crossover/SUV of that size, I'm 6'0" tall and there is plenty of leg/knee room in the rear seats when I sit in the rear and that's leaving the front drivers seat at my position of driving.

Rugged, yet refined for a great price
This Crosstrek is my first Subaru, and so far has exceeded all my expectations going into the purchase. Living in the Pacific Northwest, I have always been biased toward Subaru's for their do-it-all appeal. I've taken this car on multiple road trips and ski trips so far, and have had no problems making it up icy mountains or sketchy forest roads. The car handles roads and corners like a dream, and is extremely quiet inside. For the 2018 model, Subaru has addressed most of the issues the older generation Crosstrek experienced. Despite the grippy AWD appeal, this car still gets amazing gas mileage. I tend to average 34 - 38 mpg driving highway, and recently pulled out a 40mpg trip driving in the 50-65mph range. City driving tends to average around 26-30mpg. The exterior and interior is stylish and clean, and seats very comfortable. They have used a lot of plastic for certain trim features, but I suppose that is to be expected for the price (it all still looks good - just maybe not the most durable). The touchscreen entertainment system mostly works well, although I've found I have to plug my phone directly into the car to use the Android Auto features. using Google Maps and Spotify from the dash is pretty sweet though. Most reviews have primarily poked at the car's slow acceleration, but my experience with that has been more nuanced. At lower speeds and on flat terrain I find this car accelerates perfectly fine and feels like it has plenty of power (it's not a sports car, regardless). The issue is when you are trying to pass someone at 60mph going up a hill - that's when it can be slow. I think part of this is limitations with the gear ratio of the CVT transmission. For me, its a fine price to pay for incredible gas mileage without a hybrid engine. Bottom line - if you are looking for a rugged yet dependable adventure car on the cheap, the Crosstrek checks all the boxes.

Most Trusted Brand for a Reason
I've owned my Crosstrek Premium with Eyesight for 7 months now. I purchased this car after Ford bought back my 2012 Focus because of the class action lawsuit in regards to transmission issues. This is my first Subaru and I compare this to cars I've owned from Honda, Toyota, Ford, Nissan and Hyundai. Subaru is head and shoulders above Ford and is in my opinion, a better value than the others. First is the quality of the build. Subaru uses high quality interior materials and the noise level inside the cabin is minimal. I know this was a complaint on previous models. The fact you get AWD with fuel mileage that is right on par with other brands is a hugh plus, especially living in Colorado where it comes in handy to have an AWD. Safety was a big deal to me, and the most recent IIHS study had Subaru leading the pack with 7 vehicles earning highest ratings...Crosstrek was one of them. One of the biggest complaints I see on this care is the power output. I truly don't see an issue with this car. What should someone expect with a 4 cylinder? This car is equal if not better than the Focus I had. I haven't had any issues with accelerating, etc. The eyesight system is definitely worth the money when you buy this car, so really consider it. Along with going Premium too. Subaru dealerships are very customer friendly as the dealer I purchased my car from has been top notch at anything I've needed. This is truly a great, well built car that people should really consider when looking for a compact, hatchback style vehicle.

2nd Subaru and Better Than the First
My wife loves her Subrau Baja and swore she would never part with it. Two grand kids later we needed something with more room. She test drove the Outback and decided it was just too big for her and she couldn't get excited about it. The Foresters driver seat just didn't fit her comfortably. The 2018 Crosstrek has proven just right. She loves the comfort, handling, quiet cabin, adaptive headlights, Eyesight safety systems and the bright Sunshine Orange exterior and gray interior with orange contrast stitching. When I told her she needed to drive the Baja so I could wash her Crosstrek she gave me a dirty look. I guess you could say she is very happy with her Crosstrek (Crusher). I'm very impressed with the performance and mileage (even during break in). The Crosstrek is averaging 33 MPG on the second tank of gas. Motortrend just did a comparison of the Crosstrek against a Nissan and Jeep and confirmed the Crosstrek is no slouch. It had the fastest acceleration to 60 MPH. I know the Crosstrek is quicker than our Subaru Baja with its 2.5L engine. The Crosstrek gives us about 5 inches more legroom in the backseat over the Baja without sacrificing legroom in the front. The only con is limited storage behind the backseat. With 2 car seats in place you are limited to 20.8 Cubic feet of storage. We just put snow tires on Crusher for the winter. The Baja was exceptionally secure with snow tires during winter driving. My wife is hoping the Crosstrek does just as well. No car is perfect yet the Crosstrek does so many things well it will be hard to find anything in its price range that delivers a better total package.

Much better but still needs a bit more.
I went from 2015 Crosstrek CVT to the 2018 Premium CVT. I went to the Premium as I liked the cloth interior and wheel style better than on the Limited. Overall the car feels much better. Rides better. Much quieter and better breaks. Interior finish is also superior to the prior series. Basic stereo is also much better sound quality and Apple Car Play is HUGE! Still needs a bit more horsepower. The added torque is a plus but it could really use another 10-20 ponies. Now from going to the Limited to the Premium - you suffer in the digital readouts. The ODO and MPH gauges are red which is very cool but then they stick this super bland rudimentary and hard to read bright white gas gauge in the middle. Sorry, they whiffed on that basic readout and design. At night, the brightness and the style does not complement the other round gauges and I find this distracting. Stereo - I'll need to take it in as I get a lot of static when listening to regular radio. The biggest issue - major oversteer/understeer balance. Handling feel is nice but the oversteer/understeer balance was much better in the prior car. I know the car is now on the same platform of the BRZ which helps the feel and I am going to talk to the dealer about it. I'm sure nothing will come of it but worth a shot. I most likely will keep this for the long haul and will address the handling. Bottom line - overall I do like this series better than the other. It's a comfortable car to drive and its a beast in the snow. I just may be a bit pickier than most?

Happy with my 2018 Crosstrek
Though I was happy with my 2006 Subaru Outback, I didn't want to buy another one for a couple of reasons. One was cost and the other was that I thought the newer models were getting too big for me. I began researching the other Subaru models and I came across the 2018 Crosstrek. It looked like it ticked all my boxes, and its weaknesses weren't ones that would bother me much. However, I knew I had look at it in person and test drive it to make sure I could live with a step down from my previous model. I was relieved and surprised to see that the actual car met my needs even better than it had on paper. I've had my Crosstrek for a month, and I love all the new features and the comfort it provides me. So far, I'm very pleased with the car and I think I made a good choice. More than six months later, I'm very happy with my Crosstrek. It was a great choice for me.

New Global Platform a Huge Improvement Over '17
We have purchased three Subaru's in 3 years. I will use this review to compare this to the previous iteration of the Crosstrek for those who may be thinking about buying used. I'll also review the rare 6 speed manual. We custom-ordered our Crosstrek because it was difficult to find the color and option set we were looking for. We ordered a 2018 Premium Cool Gray Khaki with Manual 6 Speed. I have to start by saying that the new platform for 2018 feels much more solid going into corners & bumps. Where the 2016 we bought, and even our 2017 Outback take corners and bumps with less grace and a general harshness, the new 2018 Crosstrek absorbs bumps well, and leans into corners giving added confidence in mountain driving and curvy highways and roads. The last gen felt top heavy in cornering. Additionally, the 2018 Crosstrek fits three child seats across as well or better than our 2017 Outback. Our last-gen Crosstrek could NOT fit our three carseats across (in fact the doors wouldn't even shut with three across), nor did it have as much rear legroom. They have done a good job growing this car slightly, without making it feel larger to the driver. It's hard to explain, but from the shutting of a door, popping of the hatch, to the chime or the orange stitching on the seats, this still very much FEELS like the old crosstrek and honors the gen-one design. But when it comes to road manners and passenger comfort, everything is improved. The engine is still underpowered, and that will have to be a consideration for anyone looking at this car. I really think it will be the Achilles heal of this car if not soon addressed and as other car companies start to build cars targeting the Subaru demo. But, I manage to get buy with the power, even if sometimes awkwardly. I opted for the 6-speed manual this time after owning the CVT last time and can tell you that the CVT FEELS faster. I think this is because the CVT does a better job keeping the car in the optimum torque band. I just enjoy sticks, so I went that route this time. The 6 speed is a big improvement over a gen-one manual I test drove. Having that 6th gear would make me choose the Crosstrek over the 5-speed Imprezza. Moving to the tech for a minute, the new head unit is a dream! The apple carplay and android auto makes easy use of google maps and spotify on the road, and allows you to easily text by voice or change songs or google map directions using a button on the steering wheel. The crosstrek averages about 22-27 city and 28-33 highway, so those advertised numbers are spot on. I haven't used the new Subaru in the snow yet, but if its anything like our 2016 and 2017 I'm sure it will be best-in-class. I would also recommend looking at the Forrester if you want a bit more room and power. The crosstrek will be perfect if you are coming from a small car, Jeep or hatchback.

Back to a Subaru
I waited for the 2nd generation 2018 Subaru Crosstrek to test against my list of competition including the: Lexus NX, Volkswagen Alltrack, Ford Escape, Honda Cr-V, Nissan Rogue and Toyota Rav4 & Tacoma. The Crosstrek has the best ride, it's lightweight, fun to drive, tight in the corners yet compliant over rough roads. Subaru's legendary AWD system and good ground clearance enable the Crosstrek to get off the beaten path, with the fuel range, and dependablity to get back to civilization without a toolbox, it even has M+S rated tires. Driving range is 450 - 500 miles with the 16.6 gallon fuel tank, important on cross country road trips and less wasted time at the pump. Additionally, light duty towing options and easy to install available 2" hitches for a bike carrier or platform rack, standard roof rails for boards, kayaks and cargo boxes. The Crosstrek is the right size for me, not too big, not too small, easy to park and fun to drive. Bottom line, it's a well designed, great all around vehicle, fun to drive, comfortable interior, good fuel economy, dependable, high quality build, high resale value, low maintenance, low ownership costs, in an unostentatious package.

Superior comfort and control
I have only driven 1000 miles, but have been pleasantly surprised by almost everything. The electronic driving assistance is surprisingly good, with few false negatives or positives. Backing down a drive is strange - I have to rely on side mirrors and the rear camera, because you can't see much by twisting around to look. The only thing I haven't liked is how the radio interacts with iPhone. Performance was completely unacceptable with iPhone 6s; it became okay when I bought an iPhone 7, but there is still a feeling of awkwardness with CarPlay. Too often when an interruption occurs (phone call, text, guidance instructions), what's being interrupted (radio, itunes, Overcast) never resumes without some manual intervention. This could be entirely Apple's problem, though. The vehicle itself, although modestly powered, is one I'd enthusiastically recommend.
2014 vs 2018 crosstrek
I had a 2014 crosstrek hybrid touring @ 75,000miles and i traded for a new 2018 base model CVT. The base has everything i ever used! The update was such an improvement. Tweaked suspension feels Better, better CVT drivability (can accelerate @ 2,000rpm as hard as the older could @ 2800rpm) for town driving, here's to hoping the new one actually is more durable! (2014 had front suspension and 3 wheel bearings (@ 50,000), and a front axle replaced (@75,000. Was getting repaired when i test drove new model). I work from the vehicle doing a newspaper route.

2018 Crosstrek Limited - Go for the Limited
I purchased my 2018 Crosstrek Limited in January 2018. I was so fortunate because our local dealership (Grand Subaru - Bensenville, IL) had a Limited model and I was looking for a Premium with cloth seats. I am so glad I got the Limited with the LED lights, rear camera with the rear traffic and side lane warning system. My only regret was that I would like a sunroof, but aftermarket around here is as good or better than OEM. My MPG has been 25 to 29 in town depending on my driving style and way high on the highway from 34 to 42 MPG. I honestly could not believe how good my MGP is on the highway and this if from over 6 trips with hundreds of miles. I have used my Thule 6300 roof box with the added OEM crossbars and with the car and roof box fully loaded for camping in Door County Wisconsin, we got 34 MPG the entire trip combined driving. Highway only was closer to 38. The only slight negative is that the CVT transmission does have a hard time finding a gear when you are traveling slow between stop lights and it sometimes downshifts and/or hesitates which is a weird feeling, but honestly not a big deal overall. I am even surprised how much I love this car because we already had a 2012 Outback and love it, but this 2018 Crosstrek is my new favorite. Highly recommend this car and my dealership Grand Subaru in Bensenville, IL

Romulan Wolf Approves!
Research dealerships and get the best price out there. I traded my 2016 Impreza Premium for the 2018 Crosstrek Limited with everything except the expensive stereo system. The base seems to work well and loud enough for me. This is an impressive update/upgrade. My mother has the 2017 Crosstrek Limited and I can actual feel and hear the difference on the road and how more refined mine is. Best vehicle I've ever owned so far and most expensive as well besides the 2002 VW Jetta GLX VR6 I had those several years ago. The AWD is amazing since I live on a gravel/rocky road which is a 4th of a mile long. It hasn't made any squeeks or noises as of yet. Great we'll built car!

Great Car.
After 5,000 miles I have very few complaints. I would remove the fake shift points from the CVT and make the front seat bottoms wider. Other than those two things, I have no complaints and it is an awesome car. I've done some off-road specific mods like aluminum skids and a 1.5" lift. I mostly commute in it, but will also use it as a lite overlanding vehicle. It does well off-road for a car.

Strange, underpowered vehicle
My wife owns a Forester which she loves and which I enjoy driving -- it's solidly built, remarkably peppy for how large the vehicle is and the motor goes about its business with a minimum of noise -- in fact, you can barely hear the engine it's that quiet. Her car is just so solid and drama-free. I wanted a Subaru and considered a new Forester but really wanted something smaller and more fuel efficient. I checked reviews of the Foresters and Crosstreks and they're similar but the Crosstreks always seem to come out slightly ahead. I also liked how the Crosstreks have heated seats and a heated windshield (on the premium trim) and, especially, a monster gas tank for long-distance driving. I also wanted the X-Mode which was standard on Crosstreks; X-Mode is now available on all Foresters and Outbacks, however, the new Foresters and Outbacks weren't yet available when I bought my car 6 weeks ago. I test drove a couple of Crosstreks and enjoyed the experience -- minimal wind noise and the motor seemed pretty quiet around my suburban test loops. Fast forward several weeks and 2,000 miles later and I have a different opinion of the vehicle. When the car is cold, the transmission seems to not shift or operate correctly -- it's like it holds a lower gear; once warmed up, the transmission seems to shift in a way that feels right. Recalling my test drives (in Pennsylvania's December), the cars were both warmed up and "waiting for me" when I got in them. The problem is the car, overall, doesn't seem to have ample power and moans and groans and drones on the road. The motor makes so much noise -- which is exacerbated by the relative lack of wind noise. Seriously, even with just me aboard, the car seems to lack power going at highway speed and often has to shift to maintain 65 - 70 mph when I encounter the slightest incline or a head or side wind. Something positive: I like the apple car play which is very convenient to use -- when it connects; sometimes it doesn't. The encore delivery service was very nice but the gentleman who was re-reviewing the entertainment system had a great deal of difficulty getting the bluetooth to connect (with my phone and also with his phone). The system seems slow to connect and work; sometimes bluetooth connects instantly; sometimes carplay connects instantly. Other times, nothing works and there's no apparent reason why. Online reviews indicate other people have experienced this problem. The instrument lights are also very dim; adjusting the instrument lights also adjusts the entertainment screen so the screen is blinding while the speedometer and tachometer are barely visible in dim lighting. Overall, the car seems small inside and large on the outside -- whereas my wife's car seems huge inside relative to the outside. I replaced our water heater several months ago and just threw the new one in the back of her Forester with tons of room to spare. It doesn't appear that a water heater would fit in my Crosstrek. And 2 large suitcases are a tight fit without putting the seats down. Moreover, with the lack of power and poor fuel mileage (7 fuel-ups, 26.9mpg so far) I'm left underwhelmed and disappointed. I can't imagine driving myself, my wife and 2 more people in my vehicle because it doesn't feel like it has enough power for us let along 2 more pwople. There's a balance here: no power and motor noise, I expect better mileage. If the motor is very quiet and powerful, then I would expect less mileage. With the Crosstrek, I experience the worst of everything: noise, lack of power and poor mpg. My mileage is very much mixed -- highway, city and suburban mileage. Overall, the vehicle seems to do best going about 50. As the vehicle is driven, I hope that the mileage improves, however, better mileage will not make up for the lack of power, the loudness of the drivetrain or the wonky electronics. For reference, I've owned a bunch of other vehicles: 3 Camrys, 2 Accords, a Honda Fit, a Mazda3 hatchback and several Suzuki Samurais and Geo Trackers when I was much younger. UPDATE: I traded the strange little Crosstrek for a new Outback. The Outback is much more satisfactory: huge on the inside, smooth on the highway, ample, smooth power and I’m getting better mileage in 7000 miles than I got on my Crosstrek in the 4000 miles I owned the thing. I remarked that it’s hard to believe the same company makes the Crosstrek, Forester and Outback. Others may love the Crosstrek but I don’t. The Outback - and Forester - offer so much more power, space and versatility, it makes the Crosstrek seem irrelevant. FURTHER UPDATE: In October of 2018, I traded the Outback on a new Honda CRV. The Outback averaged 29.2mpg over the 9,900 miles I owned it. The driver's seat began squeaking and the infotainment system stopped working -- the entire screen just blacked out. My Subaru experience is over. Wife still has her Forester and loves it; no more Subarus for me.

New Subaru convertee
I've been a loyal Honda owner for years, my last car being a CRV. I test drove both the new CRV and the CrossTrek and was hooked from the moment I got in the car. The ride is smooth and quiet and the car hugs the road in a way my CRV never did. It feels like a more "expensive" ride than it is. I've only owned the car for a month, but am thrilled with everything about it!

Great Car
I have had the car for a couple for a couple of months. It feels great to drive and the ride quality is smooth. I personally love the design; it looks very modern. The safety features are awesome and are well worth the money. The base seats are relatively comfortable and are not causing problems so far. The only small issues I have are technology concerned. The touch screen is not as responsive as I would like and there can be glitches at times. The base speakers are not great, but I guess you were concerned about that, you could just get premium speakers with a higher trim level. Overall, this car is the perfect balance between a sedan and an suv. You are definitely getting the bang for your buck.

$3257 to replace 2 headlights
My windshield cracked (pretty badly) in March 14, 2018 and I have not been able to get it replaced because there are no replacement windshields available. (It is now May 15, 2018, 2 months later). My dealership couldn't help me, the windshield replacement people can't help me, and the Subaru's customer service people can't help me. They all tell me the windshields are on back order and have not been delivered. This is my first experience owning a Subaru and it seems like a really big problem if you buy a new car. Update: Finally got the windshield replaced after months of waiting. Car runs great, holds the road in bad weather. A couple of oddities: the radio has a life of its own unrelated to when I turn it off and on; it blasts on every time I start the car and doesn't respond when I try to turn it off or try to adjust the volume. Setting the clock is bizarrely complicated...at the moment, I'm driving around with a clock that is one hour ahead because I forgot how to set it (last time, I had to go to the dealer and it took 2 people to figure it out)...the manual doesn't help. So there are some small problems but overall, I like the ride and feel like I'm riding in solid vehicle. I'm going to upgrade my rating to 4 stars. 2023: $3257 to replace 2 front headlights!! Routine replacement 9/2022: one headlight out—cost $1486 to replace; 5/2023 needed to replace other headlight: $1771 (Subaru deducted $750 from original estimate of $2521). This is a Subaru dealership. Supposedly some design issue where whole lamp assembly has to be replaced when bulb goes out…bumper of car has to be removed to reach panel. When put on hold to talk to “customer advocate,” I had to listen to ads saying how much money Subaru donates to charities…jeez, I wonder where that money comes from…

Really Like But...
I've had this car now for over six months and it's got a nice tight ride and fun exterior color (khaki gray). I went for the more expensive Limited edition to get leather and some other upgrades but was really disappointed it lacked both memory seating for multiple rivers or a rear gate push button.. Even though the entertainment system is real easy to use other information setups are not so user friendly. The settings menu is overly complicated with too many toggle buttons to push and the Sabaru manual is the worst I've even encountered. I constantly have to go on U Tube to figure out something as simple as changing the time on the clock. The seating is also a little stiff and I don't understand why there are no audio chirps to warn you about obstacles behind you when backing up or another car in the passing lane. The gas mileage has been a pleasant surprise. I've been getting around 32MPH, better than my other car, a RAV4 hybrid

Nothing better on roads with snow or rain
This 2018 Crosstrek is our second Subaru (2012 Outback other car). So far, I love the ride and steering control. Brake are the best I have had on any car. Somehow this car feels like it is attached to the road and rides much smoother than I expected. The acceleration is great! I don't understand other reviewers who indicate it is under powered. For a daily driver it is fine. I drive 30 minutes to work both local and highway roads and I have never had a need for more power or acceleration. It is a very quick 4 cylinder for typical suburban area driving. I was not looking for a race car. The look is amazing and the interior is far better quality and layout than I see in the older models which I liked as well. I left out the nav and cruise control safety feature and that held the price down to make it more reasonable. Oh,...love the orange stitching with the black leather seats. The media center is amazing with Apple Car Play using my maps it is free navigation. Messaging and phone calls on bluetooth are so easy. This is such a nice upgrade from prior cars. I have the limited with the 8" screen and it is very nice. There is somewhat of a delay on touch screen responding, but generally acceptable and enjoyable to use. I will update my review later after I have more miles.

Orange mobile 54-month review.
Leased a 2018 in September 2017. Not one thing negative to report in 17000 miles and 22 months. Plenty of get up and go for any normal driving when not seeking to win a race. Paddle shifters available if you want to zoom in lower gears a bit but not necessary. In Minnesota has been good in snow with all seasons provided. Low to mid 20's daily short trips and 32 mpg plus on freeway. Easily cruises at any legal speed up and down hills with out major effort. Leased as a new revised model and wanted to make sure no major kinks. There has been absolutely none. No oil usage issues as were reported in previous models. Fake shift points feel like any tranny shifting-very subtle. Best vehicle I have had in 50 years driving. After 20500 miles had several recalls. Brakes lines most concerning buy taken care of. Otherwise no issues at all. Love the all wheel drive in Minnesota snow and ice. Low 20's mpg with warming up and fairly short trips. Low 30's freeway driving. Balance o 42 month lease will determine if I buy at end or not. Since I generally own a car over 5 years the low depreciation, dependability and rust prevention are very important. No problems after 34000 miles. Love the car! Owed since 9/2017. 42000 miles now. Replaced rear brake pads and front pads although front pads had quite a bit left. Zero other issues. Replaced tires before winter as I live in Mn and need good tires for winter. Is quite good on snowy roads. The 2-l engine is a benefit on slippery roads as is less likely to over accelerate inadvertantly.

Great subcompact SUV
Just picked up the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek with power moonroof and Eyesight for my wife. We also have a 2016 Forester XT and love that vehicle so we knew how great Subaru is for our region here in the Northwest. This is a fantastic smaller crossover and since we don’t have kids, it’s plenty roomy. Adding some cross bars and kayak racks and tinting the windows, what a cool ride! Dig the Apple Car Play too!

love my sunshine orange Crosstrek
My wife and I have bought four Subarus over the years. Right now, we have two new ones: a 2018 Forester (my wife's) and a 2018 Crosstrek (mine). We love Subarus because they are practical and give you a good feeling of safety with AWD and high ground clearance. I got a Crosstrek because I thought the Forester was too big. But to my surprise, I also like driving the Forester. Looks for a car is very subjective, but I think the 2018 Crosstrek is a good looking car, especially in sunshine orange, very attractive in my eyes. The seats are comfortable and the interior is roomy. Two quibbles: you can't turn off the radio, if the engine is on, it's on too. As others have said, I turn off the volume when I don't want to hear the radio. Also, the visors could be larger (the ones in the Forester are larger and I like them better). This is important for a short driver (I am 5foot 3). The visors are also a bit too thick, which makes it hard to clip on a garage opener remote. I don't share the criticism that the Crosstrek accelerates too slowly. I have driven it on the highway with no problem. It probably helps that I am a senior citizen and don't like to drive fast. I like to drive safely but I do keep up with the traffic. I also appreciate the many safety features of the Crosstrek, like the eyesight adaptive cruise control. Modern cars are now much more complex, and so it took me a bit of time to learn to be comfortable with all the new technology in the car, but I have taken the time to learn how to use it ( I actually read the car's manual!) and now feel at ease with it. update: I have now owned the Crosstrek for six months. I still love it. I still have no problem with acceleration which is the main criticism I have read, but as I said, I don't like to drive fast though I do keep up with traffic on the highway. I have gotten used to the way the radio works and just automatically turn the volume down to zero before exiting the vehicle. I use the built-in garage door opener so I don't care if the visor is thick. I very much appreciate the safety features such as warning me when I'm backing up if a vehicle is about to cross my path, and I really like the adaptive cruise control. I'm updating my review after one year of owning the car. I have 3,000 miles on the odometer so obviously I don't drive much. I still like the car. I have one small criticism: it's very very difficult and exasperating to change the clock time which I have to do twice a year when going from EST to DST and the reverse. Other than that, I have had no problems. Even though most of my trips are short ones, my mileage is pretty good: about 25 or 26 mpg. When I do take a one hour highway trip, the average mpg increases to the low to mid thirties. And this is a 4 wheel drive vehicle. I still love the sunshine orange color and get compliments on it from my friends. I am now completely used to the adaptive cruise control and like it. I especially like that when using adaptive cruise control the car automatically slows down when the car in front of me slows down. Second update to my review. I now have 4500 miles on the odometer, I am retired and I don't drive much. I like my Crosstrek. I like its safety features: high ground clearance, adaptive cruise control, warning beeps as I back up if another car is crossing my path. My complaints are not major: it's still very hard to change the clock from EST to DST or vice versa. I still don't like the quirks related to turning off the car radio as I have to remember to turn the volume to zero or else the radio will come on as I back out of my garage which I don't like. Also, I have a Sirius XM subscription and I find it annoying that the sound always cuts off as I drive into my garage. The sound also cuts off as I am driving in certain outside locations. This never happens with my FM radio settings. Finally, I wish the car seats were a bit more padded. It's a bit hard on your backside if you drive for longer than half an hour. Overall, these are quibbles and I am satisfied with my Crosstrek. This is now my third year with my Crosstrek. I have about 6500 miles on the odometer so obviously I don't drive much, even less during Covid years. My comments on my previous update still apply. I still like my Crosstrek and love the orange color which makes it easy to find it in a crowded parking lot. I still hate having to change the time twice a year as it's very hard to do and takes me a good while and some exasperation before I succeed. I still wish the seats were a bit more padded for comfort. I wish Sirius wouldn't cut out when I drive into my garage. One other quibble: the car could ride a bit more smoothly over bumps and irregular pavement. But on the whole, I like my car and its strong features such as high ground clearance and solid feel.

Great value for the money
This is a lot of car for the money. Eyesight suite of safety equipment is a must. Don’t know anything else for $25K that gets you this kind of tech. Was very competent in blizzard conditions in the mountains. Get the Premium trim if you want to do snow and/or rough country: the lower-profile tires on the Limited aren’t as good for that. Update: March 2020: 24,000 miles trouble-free so far. With Bridgestone Blizzak snow tires it’s an absolute beast in snow. One detail in the owner’s manual of note: can’t fit tire chains on this vehicle. Not enough room in wheel wells, they say. It went in once recently for 4 different recalls but otherwise continues to operate as new.

3 years owner
Finally drove in snow, excellent handling and traction. Gas mileage 32-33 in mostly country driving. No issues to report. Car is comfortable and handles well, still find the felling of the CVT to be a little weird at times. The car is a little under powered but travels at highway speeds quietly and comfortably. Back up cross traffic warning is excellent. Depending on your needs you might want to look into various roof rack systems since this car is small and overall storage is limited. Overall this is a good car that handles well, gets great gas mileage and can handle all road conditions well. Only negatives, a little under powered, CVT feels a little weird at times, storage space could be challenging depending on usage. Wish they would add speed on to digital display. Shows digital on cruise which is kind of dumb. Steering wheel feels a little small. Have a few minor recalls mostly with computer updates. After 3 years this car has been above average overall. Personally dislike cvt transmission. Decent off start from red light but acceleration while passing and higher speeds unpredictable. Rear braking system and smaller rear brake pads caused replacement of pads and rotors at about 25,000 miles. Never did rear brakes on any car or truck till 60,000. Google it and it seems common on Subaru's. Overall it is still a nice riding and handling car.

Phone volume
All the new models car play have a problem with the incoming phone volume. It will not hold your settings I put it all the way down to zero and when a call comes in it sersnit back to 10 and it's so Loud I have a heart attack nearly driving. This has got to be fixed. Every time I get in my car I have to fix the volume setting to zero. It will not hold your settings. This is SO ANNOYING. They are suppose to be trying to fix the problem and then correct mine. I was told it is in every Crosstrek 2018 models the new car play. I cannot believe something so simple and they did not catch the problem before selling these cars. Other than that I love the car I get 37 MPG !!!

Subie rific! Updated 1year later...
I’m updating my review to add a scary event-my ECM failed while I was driving at 35 mph. The car stopped in lane on road! It was replaced but it happened again recently. We are appalled that Subaru has treated this lightly. We believe there are others out there but not enough to trigger NTSB. Very dangerous and very scary to have car stop operating in traffic! First time Subie owners. Only a few complaints regarding interior- no place for my change or sunglasses! Seats aren't that comfy and at this price point they should all have power seats! And a safety question - shouldn't the heated seats time out? Well, they don't. I do wish I had a sunroof but that package made the car too expensive and at that point I could have afforded a Volkswagen alltrac. I like the fuel economy, eyesight, lane assist, back up camera and the tracking headlights! The instrument panel is a bit fussy for me- TMI. Overall; for under 26k, this car has been exactly what we needed in terms of all wheel drive and safety features the only BUT is that I do miss a little pampering.

Looks cool and drives great!
Leased the car three weeks ago, I commute 40 miles a day for work. The car looks really cool I get alot of looks. The inside is nice and roomy and the car play is nice. The only thing I wish it had was more horsepower, this is the only thing I don't like. Engine feels weak and struggles to accelerate, but for the price point I guess I can't complain. Overall great car!
New car
Just had the car for a couple of weeks. Only complaints: a lot to absorb with all the controls. And impossible to close the rear hatch without a hook - I am too short to reach the hand pull on the hatch door.

Super Crosstrek
Going on 1 year with 9000 miles. Changed il at 6 mo 4500 miles. Absolutely no oil consumption. Very quiet, smooth running car. Getting 25 around city and up to 34 on a trip. No problem with acceleration and general power. Very comfortable and a very safe vehicle. Love the sunshine orange! Update: 13500 miles and 18 months. No issues to report. Still loving it. Going on 2nd year. Absolutely no issues. Have 1.5 years left on lease to see if there is a valve carbon problem or any CVT issues. Warranty on CVT extended to 100000 apparently. 32-34 mpg highway. Very comfortable. Not lacking power for any reasonable driving.

Smooth Ride
This car handles well and the features are outstanding. I love the feel on the road. I do wish it had sensors to tell you how close you are to something when pulling in. The gas mileage is great and instrumentation is easy to read. The pickup is okay but it could use a boost.

Shutting off the radio
Unable to turn off the radio. All you can do is turn down the volume. Also adjusting the rear view mirror leaves a lot to be desired. Someone with larger hands will have difficulty. This is my 3rd Subaru (my second crosstrek) and design is my least favorite.

Happy with Subaru
This is our first Subaru and so far, so good! Even though live in Florida, I like having all wheel drive- hugs the road nicely. Good gas mileage. Getting about 26-28 mph in city driving and i know i will get better during highway driving. Only had the car for 2 months....The car is not the coolest looking but it is nice.

Former Ford Owner
Researched buying a new car the past two years and are first time Subaru owners. We are very happy with this purchase- This is a lot of car for the money. The ride is smooth and quiet. The interior is very roomy with a sharp looking exterior. We live in the Midwest so the AWD and heated wind wipers will be much appreciated come winter. Wife is loving that back up camera. We were out to only to do some test drives but were so impressed with this vehicle. Our sales person Dan was also very informative and we will likely be a repeat customer

Our 2nd Crosstrek
We turned in our 2015 Crosstrek as the lease was coming up on it. We are VERY excited to move into the 2018 updated model. Not only does it look sharper and more aggressive but they made the inside wider and much more comfortable! They made the car much more quiet on the road and refined the steering. The car is fun to drive and feels planted to the road, as do all subarus. Our premium model has the eyesight system which is extremely safe and useful. The technology inside the car is wonderful. Android auto and apple car play are available as hands free phone options and the car's computer system handles them well and very speedy! The interior of the car is far superior than any Subaru I have been inside. Soft touch materials and perfect color choices make you feel like you are in a very refined vehicle.

Only a few things holding it back from perfection
The subaru starlink and the entire set up for the radio is the worst I have seen in any vehicle. There is a delay in powering on and changing modes between media, radio and other settings and the bluetooth system cannot be any worse than it is. Sometimes your phone is recognized and next time you get in the car it may not be at all and the audio is very bad for people on the other end. All the problems experienced with this car for me, stem from the starlink system, stereo and bluetooth. Subaru has to get back to the drawing board. Rip out that whole deal and start new. It's horrible. I have also read on here that people cannot turn the radio off. There is a way. All you have to do is keep your finger pressed on the power button for 3 or 4 seconds. I know it's not ideal but have just a tiny bit of patience! omg. Also, you can mute the radio by tapping on the powerbutton for 1/1,000th of a milisecond. I hope that's not too much time for you. Despite these things, everything else FOR ME was great and I don't see why people complain about the power. If you wanted a car that has excellent gas mileage AND has 0-60 times comparable to a Mustang Cobra, then you will have to understand that DOES NOT EXIST. This is a vehicle which has a multi role and being such you will not have the utmost performance in acceleration but IMO it's not half as bad as people say it is. It's fine. I had no problem passing on the freeway at 70 plus MPH either. That's just a myth. In fact it is a fairly peppy car around town with very usable low end torque, which is what you need more than anything anyway. It's not going to win you any races but it does the job adequately. Next is the AWD system which to me can't be beat by any other manufacturer. Hands down. In fact it rivals some full 4wd vehicles which I have owned over the years with the exception of my Toyota FJ Cruiser. Anyway, you can't go wrong with this one. Especially for a lease.

Watch What They Do, Not So Much What They Say.
Look at Subaru's phenomenal sales growth over the past decade in the U.S. I followed what other people did. People keep buying more and more Subarus over a long period of time. They do that because Subaru offers better value than other brands. I have owned Ford, Mazda, BMW, Honda, and Lexus. After 6 months, I rate my 2018 Crosstrek Limited BEST among the cars I have owned for combined performance and value. Resale value is important. I am optimistic.

1 year. 27,000 miles.
2018 Crosstrek Limited , no eyesight. This Pearl White beauty has taken me over 27,000 miles in one year. As of the time of writing this I have 28,768 miles (1yr 3 weeks) with her. 1st problem with this car : Soft acceleration at high speed. This makes highway manuvering a bit more skill based, with planning and tactful execution being a must. That being said, this car has what it takes to make it fun while feeling (and being) safe! 2nd problem with this car : Bluetooth gets wonky at times. Not often, but sometimes. That's all I got for problems. I could speak ad nauseum of all the things I love about driving my Crosstrek but I thought I might address some of the negative experiences I read in the previous reviews. STEERING AND HANDLING: After approximately 25k miles the steering now hints at going to the left, but I don't believe her lies. Quick manuvering with a wide wheel base and higher platform translates into some throw that the car handles with grace and agility. INTERIOR DESIGN/QUALITY : A little more cushion WOULD be nice I'll agree there. As for the functionality it's like everything is exactly where I need it to be and everything does what I think it should. It's like she knows me, really. No really, it's kinda weird. I travel with about 300-350 pounds of equipment for the work I do and the cargo space is adequate enough for that plus a suitcase, or two suitcases if I bring the wife on the road trip. I've driven everything and let me tell you this car is a pleasure to drive!

Loving Crosstec
Best SUV out there. I took some of the other SUV cars out for a test drive prior to purchasing my Crosstec Subaru and all I can say is it beat the competition hands down. Nothing handled has well or was as comfortable on the road. The fact that Subaru holds its value is a great plus has I plan on holding onto this vehicle for a long time. I've never had a vehicle that seemed to be so comfortable and hug the road that it makes driving even more enjoyable. I can't sing its praises high enough.
