Used 1999 Saturn S-Series Coupe Consumer Reviews
The best "cheap" car you can buy
It isn't a Porsche, heck it's not even a Volkswagen, but it IS very very reliable and cheap to own. It is the cheapest car to insure in it's class (because of it's crash test ratings I guess) and I'd buy another one today.
A Tough Little Car
I custom ordered my Saturn in May, 1999. This little car has seen some tough times. I've wrecked it twice & it still is around for more! I get 34 mpg (my husband gets 37 mpg since he drives like grandpa jones) & the 5- speed manual is very fun. I love all of the features, traction control, cruise, fog lights. Everyone thinks my car is newer than it is! It's showing signs of age, though, it creaks & rattles like most old folks & the sunroof brackets have worn out. But other than normal wear & tear and routine maintenance, I've only had to replace the oxygen sensor since I've owned it. Definitely got my money's worth!
It Will Not Die
This car will not die. My car is not a very used example, as it belonged to my grandma. It only has 85,000 miles. However, not once has it required any major repairs besides a dead starter motor and a dead AC compressor. Truly a feat of American engineering! It has decent fuel economy and good handling, though it does lack power (this is fine for driving to school or work, would not recommend taking it on the highway). The interior does not hold up well, sadly. Crank windows are quite a hassle in 2025, especially if you need to roll down the passenger window. Overall a decent source of transportation, but if you have the money you should go for something a bit comfier or a bit faster.
