plymouth
A lot of mecanics don't like these cars just because they are MOPAR and are cheep to fix, they say they have electrical problims but it is easy to fix. It is mostly the wire close to the battery that burns into that causes the backup lights ceiling light, a/c / heater fan, and the back glass defogger to not work but it is easy to replace. Some say the transmissions are poor but they just don't know how to work on this. It is simply a $120 dollar fix of the two fromt axles with u joints replace those every 100,000 miles the car will run forever. I hope this helps a Plymouth owner with these problems oh and if it sputters and doesn't want to start buy a new distributor. I figured this out and I'm only 21 years old.
Bingo Mobile / Couch Car / Clown Car
This automobile is the most reliable and comfortable auto I have ever owned. Highway mileage is 32 per gallon, equal to some autos produced in 2008.This auto has excellent highway manners for long trips, the interior is spacous and quiet while running above highway speeds.Tuneups, oil change, timing belt, and brakes are the only items needing attention.
Best car I ever had even bet my honda accord
I love this car. It drives nicely, runs smooth and has had little if any repairs. I purchased car with 40K miles and I've put 100K on it with no problems. Gets about 35mpg highway with 50/50 oil, and 22 combo in town/hwy. I switched to a 50/50 blend slowly, and wow!!! I think I could race a corvette if I had the mind to. Anyway, great car

1993 Plymouth Acclaim
Very good car. Front seat is low for short driver. 4 cyl engine has plenty of power. Valve cover replaced because of oil leak. New style installed. No other mechanical problems. Body integrity very good. No rust.
Reliable, yet not the funnest car
In the 2 years I owned this car (2000- 2002), the only problems I had were having to replace brake pads, and having to replace a rusted out exhaust pipe. Also, there was a bit of oil leakage, but not where pressure was needed, so it didn't affect performance. Even at 10 years, I could still out-accelerate most people on the road, and getting on highway entrance ramps were a snap. The powerful V6 engine catapulted me on demand, and the brakes worked excellently, but unfortunately not excellently enough to save itself two days ago. NOTE: The engine in my model had been rebuilt at around 100,000 miles.
My '92 Acclaim
Ok so I don't how you other guys are driving your cars but my '92 Plymouth Acclaim (with 2.5L inline 4) averages nearly 35 mpg on the highway even during winter. It has about two hundred and sixty thousand kilometers on it and its still running strong
Time to trade this car in
Am the original owner, and will be trading this vehicle in soon. Major problem was a blown head gasket at 70K. This apparently is a problem on this vintage Chrysler products with the 2.5L engine. Other "stoppers" were a faulty MAP s sensor, and a faulty Hall Effect sensor. Vehicle is showing signs of rust on the driver's door, and the undercarriage is showing severe rust. (hardly any metal left to support the muffler - Michigan winters and summers with calcium chloride treated dirt roads are hard on vehicles) Have just replaced the O2 sensor for the second time. Vehicle has consistently gotten mileage in the high 20's.
92 Acclaim 6 Cyl
this is my 2nd acclaim - my current is the 6 cyl - SO MUCH BETTER than the 1st - 4 cyl with almost 95,000 miles i am averaging 20 mpg - power, this engine has power and a smooth trans - rides smooth and looks GREAT inside and out the heat is HOT, the air is COLD - typical Chrysler product i am hoping that with routine maintenance, i can get the odometer to 150,000 - worry free miles -
Pretty good car
I've had a '92 Plymouth Acclaim for the last ten years. Had some problems with oil sensor/oil leaks early on; later, just getting it to pass emissions. It's held up pretty good despite a fair amount of neglect. 3.0L V6 has lots of power. Interior features are good -- mine came with the power doors, etc. Been having some overheating problems the last few months. I might be getting another car soon, but I have to say this one has performed well over it's life. Probably would've lasted longer in better condition if I'd been a better owner!
Dependable Car
Have owned this car for 12 years now, and with 80,000 miles and counting, it's still doing fine. Starts every single time, even in sub-zero temps. Even with the 4 cylinder engine, it has plenty of get-up-and-go, even now. Rides like a dream on the highway as well. The body has a weakness for rust, and the worst thing about it is that the primer was not applied properly and big sheets of paint started peeling off the roof at about 9 years old.
The acclaim is alright
Its a decent car, though it seems kind of sluggish at times. The oil pan rusted through on me, which seems to happen often to plymouth cars. At 110,000 miles the fuel pump died on me, otherwise its been reliable.
Great car
My '92 Acclaim has the 3.0 V6 and the 3 speed automatic trans. (Avoid the 4- speed transmission -- it is much less reliable). The car still runs like new with 182,000 miles. The only things I've replaced under the hood are: cooling fan motor, belt tensioner, and valve cover gaskets. I get about 26 MPG overall. With the 3.0 V6, acceleration is smooth and strong. Highly recommended! The Dodge Stratus and Plymouth Breeze that replaced this model in '96 aren't as reliable.
The beloved Acclaim
We had our '92 Acclaim for 7 years and put 182k miles on it. The interior and body were very solid. Nothing ever broke or fell off. The engine was problem-free until 160k miles, when it blew the head gasket, typical of the 2.5L 4cyl. We NEVER had any issues with the 3-spd automatic. It was exceptionally plush and roomy for it's small size. The driving dynamics weren't so great (harsh ride, terrible brakes, gutless power), but it was such a dependable and inexpensive car to own. When you own a car for so long and like it as much as we did, it becomes a familiar friend. I miss that car so much!
Good but bad!
My 1992 Plymouth Acclaim was in wonderful condition until it was stolen from a parking lot. Little did I know that the 92 Acclaim are very easy to steal and quite expensive to fix once they are stolen. The ignition was popped out with a easy of a screw driver. Beware when you leave your car! It could very easily be your Acclaim.
Smoked a sleepy Camaro !
Granny bought new 10k in 92. 2.5l 3spd. Still going. 35mpg quick quiet smooth. I get funny looks but the joke is on the pricey new generics. This car is 30 yrs old peeps! Can still get parts, a couple repairs- head gasket, o2 sensor, a set of mufflers, gas oil and insurance. If I can find a repl window i'm hoping for 30 more yrs. Laughing out loud while passing each and every bank!
Good buy
I had this car for about 7 years, bought it slightly used at 27,000 miles. It died and internally fell apart at 136,000 miles. I guess that's pretty good but I expected like 160,000 or more since I had taken very good care of it and driven mostly highway miles. Maintenance was decent. Perhaps once every two years I'd have to replace something. My wheel bearing did go three times tho which I thought was strange and I'm not a racing or abusive driver. I met other people who had driving belts break around 60-70,000 miles so at 75,00 I replaced mine as preventative maintenance. No problems there.
My diamond chariot
I got this car from my prof last year with 135,000 on the meter.I serviced it once for about $500 which made it better and more fun to drive. The steering control is the best of its kind.Better the the brand new ones in the market.I am lucky to be one of the luckiest drivers to own a PLYM
Nothing but a heap o' crap
I got this car initially when I was in high school. We've had to replace the electronic sensor in the car sooo many times, and it always dies when I come to a stop and it has major problems when it comes to the transmission. It doesn't offer a very smooth ride, and the driving bliss is complete with plenty of weird noises from under the hood. Plus belts squeak really badly!
Old Faithless
Extensive warranty work on engine. Premature breakdown of A/C; transmission, etc. After 125,000 KM the car became a money pit (transmission, alternator, fuel pump, A/C).
1993 Acclaim still going like pink bunny
My husband and I bought this car just before getting married. It has very little rust (really, not any), and other than the usual repairs like brakes, battery, and tires, it has only been in the shop once for a tune up (in the 7th year) and had the water pump replaced. The car has just under 200,000 miles and shows no signs of leaving us yet. We plan on getting a new car for my husband and keeping the Acclaim around for the older kids and a "kick around" car when needed.
Great car- now I know
Exception Car...really didn't notice them when they were new...but very roomy..styling holds up well
2005 makeover
comfort and style with plenty of power worry free and low maint.
12 years strong
we bought this car new, it was one of the few we could afford that would fit 3 car seats plus grandma! It now has 116,000 miles on it and has nad no major problems yet. In fact the 3 kids in car seats are all in high school & drive the car daily. We were looking for another Acclaim to give to our second high schooler. This is a good safe car! The V6 engine is great with a carload of 5-6 people.
Unfortunate
Some Plymouth Acclaim where very good cars. Mine, unfortunately for me, was not. The V6 engine blew a gasket 3 months into ownership. It was never the same, when I would come to a stop I had to pump slightly the brakes to keep the engine from dying. The serpentine belt would fall off easily. Once on the highway it was a great car, it rode nicely.
Not luxurious but definately reliable!
My parents bought this car for me before my junior year of high school, I'm now a senior in college and applying to law school! With well over 100K miles it still runs just as well when I got it. I beat the crap out of this poor car over the years and it's still going strong, EVEN THE ORIGIONAL TIMING BELT! A/C went out at 105k miles but Chrysler never made a decent a/c. I'm getting a new car soon, hope its a reliable as the Plymouth.
wish they still made them...
My folks got me this car 2.5 years ago for commuting to school, and it's been great. It has 122k miles on it now, and the only major repair I've had to have done was for a leaking a/c. It's holding up great, although it only gets about 20-22mpg, probably because I'm doing mostly city driving. I love driving this car, and I'm going to miss it when it finally dies (which will luckily probably be a while).
good car gone bad
Car was great at 75,000 still good at 100,000 but has become a money pit ever since...cracked head, left axle, timing belt, water pump, thermostat, oil pan, head gasket, plus the usual repairs. Has 127,000 now and Im gonna sell this car as fast as I can before something else goes wrong.
Plymouth Acclaim 1992 : Worst car I never had
I bought this car new in 1992, I had to change the transmission twice. I learned that this model of transmission is defective in many Chrysler models like the Voyager or Caravan, Dynasty, Acclaim, etc.
