Excellent Choice
One of the best vechicles I have owned. My Regency has 178,000 miles and still consistently get 29-30 mpg. Ride and handling are superb.
Beyond my expectation!
Got it 1.5 years ago with 98K miles. Have not complained at all! Still runs with over 32 miles/highway. I measured it personally, the gauge shows 34+ MPH! (Seriously!) Cassette/Radio/CD from Bose+Sony. A/C from the North Pole. Trunk is a warehouse with an automatic trunk pull- down. Seats are all kingsize. Compared to other cars that I have driven and worked on, this is the best I drive overall (money, options, quality and reliability).
MY OLDS REVIEW
This is the best car I ever owned. Its exterior dsign was outstanding. None of the present rounded off over front so it looks like all sedans today look like the are going downhill. I have had absoulutely no mechanical problems with it, and have lubed it every 3 months or 300 miles. I have used "the treatment" carnuba presoftened car wax on it ($20 a tube) since new. I t is just fun to drive period, good mileage on tne open road and plenty of "zip"
Olds ahead of its time
I bought this car new 14 years ago and I have enjoyed it very much. When I was looking, my son in law suggested we check out the Oldsmobile dealer before the looking at the Lincoln's.He is very much a "car guy" and he proceeded to point out the advanced features this car offered as standard equipment ABS brakes, dual air bags, steering wheel controls for climate and stereo auto climate with driver and passenger temp controls, outside temp readout, dual front power seats both with electric lumbar support, recline feature also, over head console with dual sunglass holders, reading lights, dual lighted vanity mirrors, rear seat adjustable vents. Bottom line a great value.Very reliable and fuel efficent.
Last of the great US automobiles
I'll NEVER sell this beauty. They don't make them as roomy and powerful anymore. Like floating on a cloud.
218,000 miles and still fantastic!
This car has been unbelievably reliable from day one. It had about 22,000 miles on it when we bought it. We had AC/heater problems for a few years only to find out that the hose was clamped too tight which made the hose collapse. Easy fix and has worked great since. The driver's seat now has a tear, but all the other seats are like new! I drive over 100 miles per day, and don't hesitate to use this as my daily driver and on long trips. The car cleans up very nicely and gets hand waxed twice a year. 30 mpg is typical, new cars just can't touch the gas mileage and the comfort of this car. The ride is equal to a Lincoln. All the extra comfort items are wonderful too.
the Oldsie
I picked up my 1995 Olds Ninety Eight from an old lady a couple of years ago for $750. It was your typical grocery-getter with just a little over 100k miles on it and had spent its winters garaged. This car has been an incredible ride and for the price it can't be beat! I drive it daily now and average about 700 miles a month and the old thing still cruises down the road like a yacht. A brilliant car!
Pinch me...am I dreaming?
The guy needed money bad...the ad said,"excellent, $800"(no picture). Took a chance and a year later I'm stupified. How can a 173,000 mile car be the finest I've EVER driven(used to sell used cars, both import and domestic), let alone now owned! The thing still looks brand new. Bigger, better than a Lexus. 30 MPG hwy! NOT a rattle. Trans "like new"! Everything works! $30,000.00 new! Even had 4 Michelins on it! I've even grown to love the quirky boxey styling! One guy told me they are THE "hot", under the radar, bargain find in used cars. I've already said too much to drive up the prices on these beauties. I've owned Saabs, BMW's(630's), Caddies, and Peugeots. This beats them ALL. Pinch me!!!

Luxury sedan but GM did make mistakes!
For a 1996 model, this vehicle is luxurious. Very quiet, huge interior space, comfortable seats, automatic radio antenna, dimming rearview mirror, easy-to-read electronic cluster, a joy to take on roadtrips, decent in the snow, and overall a very sexy design. However, having had done some minor repairs on it, I want to let the shadetree mechanic know about a couple design flaws this car has. The GM 3.8L V6 motor was very strong, sturdy, well-designed, relatively easy to work on, and reliable. They made some mistakes with the Series II version of that engine, which is what this car has. First, the serpentine belt wraps around an engine mount. Yes you read that right. A serpentine belt should take 5 minutes to replace and very little mechanical knowledge -- but there is a trick to this. Google it for details, but there is a spacer between the mount and the engine block that you can undo (requires an E10 socket) to wiggle the belt around. Secondly, know that this car was originally outfitted with DexCool coolant. DO NOT MIX DEXCOOL WITH GREEN COOLANT. It will turn into a disgusting poop sludge that, needless to say, is not good for your cooling system. I'm sure there are more but these are the 2 flaws I have discovered so far with this car. Overall though, I love it and wouldn't trade it for any other daily driver. 23 years old and going strong!

Love it to death
I just bought this car used with 75000 miles on it for a bargain $5500. It drives a bit soft but the interior is comfortable and easy to use. Int/ ext. styling are classic olds. Great car for transporting your family through CT winters. Love the digital dash and all the functions it provides, even tells me if a light burns out! Series 2 3800 is a simple design but smooth and powerful as is transmission. 8-speaker cd sound system is great. My second 98 and sixth olds.
1994 Olds 98 Regency
Great vehicle. Rides and drives like a touring car. Good milage, 27-29 mpg on the highway. Very comfortable seats. Room to spare
Possibly The Best Car I Ever Owned
Rides comfortably, runs very, and starts without fail every time. Very good freeway car. It's more like flying an airplane than driving a car. The big V6 engine is fairly fuel efficient on the freeways, while giving plenty of power for big hills.
Surprisingly Good
I've had this car for four years and it's surprisingly good. It's reliable and has a luxurious ride (floaty) and interior. It also gets good gas mileage, in the upper teens in the city and mid-twentys on the highway. The only problems I've had are having to replace the fuel pump and radio. This is an inexpensive alternative to a Cadillac or Lincoln. It has bling.
I'm looking for another, with low miles.
The Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight is GM at its best. It will run forever, I just flipped over 190,000 miles. I average 26 miles to the gallon in an area with many hills.
Excellent Car: Too Bad Olds Discontinued
My 1996 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight is roomy, comfortable, and stylish. It is the last of the fabulous full-size cars from Oldsmobile in the mold of the classic American highway cruiser. And I netted 28 mph from the peppy V6 engine on my most recent long-distance trip. I'll never part with it. The body and interior have held up wonderfully. My car is still like new. I'll put money into it to keep it alive under the hood for as long as they make parts for it.
Wonderful car
Very few mechanical problems. Some electrical issues.
Your Father's Oldsmobile
We've had two '95 versions of this car-- both lost to accidents where we were prtected like being in a tank. Loved these cars enough to go looking for '96 models; we now have two '96 Regency 98s. the 3800 Series II is an awesome engine coupled with smooth tranny. Even with over 75K, weroutinely get 29-30 MPH at turnpike speeds. GM was nuts to stop building these cruisers. Anyone with a bad back would love driving one!
I love this ugly car
What can you say about this car? Well how about the fact that the 3.8L engine seems to be the most reliable built by GM. The ride is superb and all the comforts are top line. The only downfall with car is the design. Visibly I believe it has added 30 years onto my age, seems only "older" people would be seen with this vehicle, but once inside you forget the appearance. Great car for long trips and around the city.
Very dependable transportation
I've been extremely impressed with this vehicle--no real problems in the 16 months/20,000 miles I've had it. It delivers a consistent 25-26 mpg over my commute (which includes 2 fairly long, steep grades), has good power, is quiet and rides smoothly. It's not a FUN car to drive--floaty suspension and vague steering--and, at 28, I don't feel very "cool" in it...but it gets from A to B with no fuss.
Great Car!
16 years old, 87,000 miles. Got it for my niece. This car is in exceptional condition for its age. Has been in storage since the original owner passed away 2 years ago. Bought it from his son. Just can't believe the condition. Handles very well. Engine/tranny are fine. Only thing she has to do is change out the cassette for a cd player. Very well built gm car!
Good Car
I am relocating across the country and I am taking this car. I knew that the minute I started to drive it! I will have it until my boyfriend and I are done with college! This car is better than most.
Wish they still made 'em.
Paid $900 for it from a dealer with 213,000 on the clock. I was happy to find one in perfect shape from Texas with "low" miles, relatively speaking. It's been in Minnesota for the past 10 years, according to CarFax. The car is a tank. I own a '94 Olds Ciera, and the quality is worlds apart. This was there best car for this year.
Not my Fathers Olds, but not bad!
Very nice and comfortable but lacks the ability to handle a heavy load like the rear drive version. For a front drive car this is very nice and has convienant controls, excelent heater and air system. The steering whell controls are excellent for the radio and climate functions.
My OldSkool Old's
This car was literally given to me. It had been sitting for two years. Well we charged the battery, put 5 bucks in gas in the tank...and prayed. After the second attempt at cranking it over, the car started right up. It has had no problems since. I've had to replace the passenger side rear window switch, and the trunk lock was busted out when the car came into my possession so that has to be replaced. I love my car. My friends and I are currently in the process of customizing it. Plans: a new CD player, a paint job, and street effex lights. The great thing about it is, my friends love my car more than I do. They love the luxurious feel of it and the fact everyone isn't all bunched up.

SENIOR CITIZEN COMFORT
Go for it
I love my car. I understand initially there were quite a few quirks, but by the time I bought it, with 90,000 miles, they had all been worked out. I've had relatively few problems with the car, even with the high mileage. I love all the bells and whistles, and there are a lot on this car. A few leaks have cropped up lately and seem to be difficult for repairmen to find.
worth buying
I owned this car for one year an highly recomend it for anyone who spends a lot of time on the road.
176,000 miles, runs like a new car!!!
Unbelivable drive for the milage, and the last guy that drove it traveled cross country weekly in the car... Classy look for any outfit anytime... Girls love the interior(especially the back). As much space as a caprice inside
olds98 1995
i find the outside mirrors too small other than that car is a pleasure to drive .engine has enough power .comfortable seating .visablity is good, have digital dashboard ,not quit sure if i like it though i do like having avg mpg reading shown on dash .interior is roomy trunk has lots of space .so far everything has preformed ok .with all the special features that are on the car i'm holding my breath that nothing will start going bad .i'm use to working on my own cars but this one would be very difficult to work on.
Ehman's P;ds
This is the best car I have ever owned. Other than grease and oil change, the only maintenance items has been the replacement of the front wheel rotors and pads.
best car ever
i owned this car for only a short amount of time, unfortunately. after owning it for about i month i got it in a horrible roll-over accident. it got air, rolled 4 or 5 times..and was totaled, but i wasn't hurt at all; only a bump on the head and some bruises. i was so lucky to have found this car, because if i had bought any other kind i probably wouldn't have made it out. this amazing car will always be my favorite. when i had it it was so comfortable, smooth, and felt like i was flying rather than driving. definitely recommend if you can get your hands on one.
