99 Olds Aurora

Our Aurora is a great car. The 4.0- liter V-8 took me by surprise, 250- horse power; WOW! It leaves my 1986 442 in the dust. The ride is very smooth. I recently replaced the brakes at 72000 miles and it was simple. No special torx bit required, just a 15mm socket and a C-clamp to compress the caliper. A half an hour brake job. The check engine light came on once under warranty, it was a transmission code. They replaced a seal and we were on our way. The mechanic said they never see problems with this transmission. The 50K warranty was great. We average 23 miles to the gallon, not bad for a big car with a V-8.

Best American Sedan Ever Built

The Aurora was years ahead of the car market in every aspect in 1994 when it introduced the first Aurora and is truly a great car in every way. This was my 3rd Aurora, a 1999, I previously had a 1995 and I also still have a 1997 Aurora (with 194,000 miles). This is the best American sedan built. I've looked for several years for an American made car to replace the 1999 and there are none that can top it. Living in America and also living in Michigan, I will not drive a foreign car.

I just bought my dream car. 1999 Olds Aurora with 94,000 miles for $6500. I have been looking for months. It's white pearl with tan. It is so quiet, I cannot even hear the engine, unless you roll down the windows and kick it .....then hear it roar. It's a pity customers buy foreign cars when such quality cars are made in America. Buy American.

I bought this car brand new in 1999 and now have 191,000 miles on it. I drive it actually pretty hard and it has never let me down. It has awesome acceleration and reliablity too. The only things I've had to have replace were the water pump at 120,000 miles and the radiator at 180,000. The front breaks were changed about every 70,000 miles (I'm on my third set in the front and the original rear breaks lasted until about 110,000 - I'm on my second set now. The spark plug wires were changed at 150,000 miles at the suggestion of the dealership. I'm actually still on the same battery (I thought at first it was a dumb idea to put it under the back seat I'm starting to re-think that, it has helped it last). It started at -17 F after sitting two days in sub-zero this week.

I bought this car when it was 4 years old with 9,000 miles. I have since driven it up to 75,000 with only one major problem ($900), and I'm pretty sure it would have been a cheaper fix had I not been in a strange town. Overall the car has been superb. I have friends who have the newer style, but honestly they just don't compare. If I can ever find another deal (low mileage, old body style) again, I'll do it! The powerful V8, smooth handling, and sleek look make it a very enjoyable ride. As typical with American cars resale is horrible, which is why I would never buy one new (I paid $12,500...sticker was $37,000). I don't receommend many American cars, but this one is a winner!

I drive 25,000 miles/yr; get 26+mpg; have had one mechanical problem (drivers door handel broke); very quiet after I put Yokahoma tires on it; beat a teenager driving a new SS Camero off the line three days ago; after I got the governor removed west Texas speeds are very comfortable(a Mustang and I did 130-140 for almost an hour); 100k engine tune-up expensive but still runs like new; been using Mobil One and reset the computer when the oil life gets to 25%. Too bad the car was down sized for 2001, new ones just aren't the same. I would have liked to try the car out in Germany I think it would hold its own running the Autobahns, slow lane only though.

I only dirve my Aurora 7000 a year. Overall this Auto has been an outstanding and really fun car to drive. My on board computer has stated has high as 30.1 highway and 24 mpg in town. It averages 22 and 28mpg. The V8 has all the power you will ever need. I had a little wind noise around the drives door and right passenger rear door, replaced seals and adjusted door and its as quit as a mouse.

Bought it when it was 2 years old with 47000 miles had to change Air compressor twice and replace radiator. Other than that just normal maintenance have a 157000 on it now and still starts and runs great. What really fascinating is that I've never seen a exhaust system last over eleven years and still quiet.

Good highway cruiser and town car

Brake rotors had to be replaced at 52000 miles. Radio antenna automation is out and will need repair. For the price it was the best car we could find that had good climate control and a silent and comfortable ride with good front wheel drive traction control for the Colorado icy roads. This is a nice highway cruiser while not being too large for around town driving. We bought an extended warranty (cost $1200) for 100,000 miles from Warranty Direct.

Aurora's are nice..but be very careful when buying one. Northstar engine is notorious for having leaky head gaskets at the back of the engine. they have a GREAT deal of power..but if you ask me, the heads were not designed to take the power. Interior was great. Options were wonderful. Has 174000 miles on it and all the bearings needed replaced at the same time! thermostat is $51!~ Tires are hard to find and expensive! Parts are very expensive..and they hold no resale value cause Oldsmobile is closed and the Northstar has a bad rep. I drove five of these before I found mine.

THis is the best car I have ever had. THe on board computer tells you everything. THe power is great. Heavy car you never will feel so safe, yet it looks sporty. Guys love this car its a man's car. Trunk space is great and the heated seats, if you live in a cold climate you dont even need to use heat cause the seats are like two furnaces. simply a real classy car, thats fun to drive. I wont sell it any time soon.

This has been a great car to own. We have had it for 4 years (almost 50,000 miles) and the only thing that has been done to it is regular oil changes. Gas mileage has been very good, 19 to 20 miles per gallon in town. It is also fun to drive. The only negative I can think of is the radio volume control. It is either too loud or too soft. If GM were going to continue the oldsmobile line, I would defintely purchase another one.

I have owned Aurora's since Oct of 1994 and have never driven a better car. I am very disapointed that GM has chosen to first down-grade the car and then discontinue it, and Oldsmobile. How dumb can a Management be to dump the countries oldest name plate. Anyway, I realize GM's decision has hurt the Aurora for near-future resale value but I do believe they will come back as a collector car in the future. In the mean time I've moved to the Pontiac SSEi as the next best thing!

Got a great deal on this one. It was in excellent shape with 63k miles for $8500. It was from a dealer and detailed. The car is great with wonderful V8 power. It rides and handles well. The interior is comfortable and suits me well with a cockpit design.

I have 103,000 miles on my second Aurora and have had nothing but fun and reliability from this car. Great power, nice looking, and super dependable. It was a sad day when they changed this body style then dropped the Aurora completely.

Ah, I am an EDS employee and bought my 1999 Aurora at the "dealer" price. A steal, I though. It has served me well. Has never been down. I had my water pump go at 68000, and my catalitic converter at 69000. The catalytic converter was actually under warrantee. I just adore this car. The shape, the acceleration. The seating position. Have still n9t needed to replace the brakes!

This Olsmobile Aurora is the most comfortable sedan ever had. We rate it better than Buick, Chryler, Mercury,Cadillac and Lincoln! Large trunk, and great smooth touring vehicle as well as fine in metropolitans areas also. All items are easy to access and so convenient to operate with controls on dash as well as on steering wheel. The cozy contour of the dash is marvelous. Appreciate the 100000 mile rust warranty on the vehicle and would that all car manufacturers have as much reliability on their vehicles. It is nice to have oil filter, air filter, fluid(s)check areas convenient also.

Aurora - Best Kept Secret

This car's unique styling was what grabbed my interest initially - looks sharp, performance is amazing. Smoothest transmission I've ever experienced, power to spare. Interior is well planned and comfortable but not a good car for the extra-tall due to sunroof. Excellent fit and finish, even though it's now 6 years old. On a trip to Canada we got our all-time high of 27 MPG, fantastic for a heavy V-8 loaded with 4 people and luggage, averages 20 around town. Modifications: K&N air filter, drilled/slotted rotors. Best car I've ever owned. Bought used from dealer, saved $20,000 from original MSRP.

This is my second Oldsmobile Aurora, I had a February 1994-build Aurora and at 120,000 miles thought that it was best to look for improvements in automobile features. The only car that met my qualifications was the 1999 Aurora. I did not like the 2001 and the new Aurora styling and handling.

I've owned this Aurora since 8/2002 and have had no problems. 25k when purchased and 50k currently. V8 growls with plenty of power, gas mileage is not bad for a V8, approx. 21mpg. Stereo is very nice, heated seats are awesome, tons of room in the back seats, power seats are nice. Only problem is very little headroom in front drivers seat, I've adjusted the seats as many ways as imaginable and just make it...I'm only 6'? Otherwise, awesome car!
