Turn off the lights
I have really enjoyed my Xterra with a few exceptions. Am I the only one who leaves the lights on an repeatedly drains the battery. I would expect the lights to go off automatically to prevent this. The fact it doesn't happen is a huge design flaw in my opinion. I have been stuck on numerous occassions because I forgot to turn my lights off. And the battery loses its juice quickly--in 1-2 hours. My front tires are always dirty. I was told it is dust from the brakes. Who knows. I find the Xterra to be comfortable and don't understand other criticism on this point.
Trusted and Reliable
We have owned our Xterra since 2000 when we bought it new. Now, just rolling over 180,000 miles, it has never been in the shop for more than a check-up. Routine oil changes and new plugs, wires, and fluids at 100,000 miles is all that has ever been done. Recently had the air go out, but after ten years and 180,000 miles I have no complaints with the build quality on this one! If you're looking at buying one used, I would not be intimidated by high miles. Certainly mine has been super-reliable so far, and I would not hesitate to take it on long trips. Super reliable!
Best Bang For The Buck!
I purchased my 2000 Xterra one month after they first hit the streets (July 1999). So I probably have one of the most driven Xterras out there (About 48,000 miles). It's been a great vehicle. No problems what so ever. I love it!
FunToDrive
This is the first vechicle I have bought that after about 1 year I wasn't tired of it. I plan on keeping this one until it wears out, then I buy another.
My Xterra
I love my Xterra. It is the 2nd SUV I have owned. The only problem I have had with it is 2 hoses for the a/c leaked on it, and I had no a/c in the middle of August! It was also very expensive to fix! I was told that alot of 2000 Xterras had the same problem and I think Nissan should pay for the expenses.
