New/Demo Murano
Just bought this vehicle in Minnesota (I live in Indiana). So far, it's great. Drove around Minnesota a while then came home the next day (9 hours). Very comfortable ride and driving position. Acceleration is great. Build quality is excellent. Interior materials are very high quality. Have not checked out city/suburban MPG but highway is very acceptable. We got 23.6 MPG driving 70+ MPH--with air on the whole time. That included a MAJOR traffic jam in Chicago which held us up for an hour. We couldn't be happier with the vehicle. I'll do another review after we've had the car a while longer. Update 7/28/18: Still very happy with our Murano. A few little squeaks but so far, very dependable and nice-driving vehicle. I use it occasionally to tow my boat (about 1,800#). No problem at all. Update Jan 29, 2019: 60,000 miles and still no problems. Great vehicle! Jan 2021 update. Same as before. We have about 75k miles on it. Still drives like a newer car. Very solid feeling vehicle. No mechanical problems at all. This is my wife's car, primarily. But I drive it a few times a month. I also use it to to my boat on fishing trips. Works great for that. I've honestly considered getting another one from that era because i like it so much. Update 8/1/21: Still same story. About 85,000 miles on it now and we still really like it. No problems at all. Doesn't feel like a BRAND new car any more but still a nice ride for that many miles. Tows my boat great.

My 4th Murano 2013 SL w/Nav
Leased 9/26/13. After shopping and test driving a whole bunch of cars, I decided to stay with Murano for my 4th time.(39 month lease) The CVT is unmatched for a smooth ride and the addition of a navigation package was smart idea on my part. I gave only "average" ratings on design because it's been unchanged in 10 years, not a negative, just not anything new. The Blind spot monitoring is a great feature, although it'll take me a while to trust it. Build quality and reliability on my last 3 Murano's has been perfect, I've got my fingers crossed that the 2013 model continues that trend.

Best SUV I have owned to this date - 10/11/2018
It is hard for me to find perfect but this SUV was close. I am 6'2'' and 225 lbs. I love the room, ride, performance and handling of this suv. I know most people would love to have all this and still get 40 mpg. but we all know that has not happened yet with this size suv but I do think it does ok for the size. Warranty is standard to most other suvs. I will be looking the field over next spring for a new 2017 suv as I trade every 3 years. I will be looking closely at the Nissan Murano Well it is now 2017 and I thought I would give the Nissan Rogue a try. I have the top of the line SL Premium Package with the Rogue and I have had it for about 6 weeks and I wish I had my Murano back. I did not get the new Murano because of the body style change. I liked the 2014 much better. Update .... Oct. 11,2017, I had to return the Rogue due to a lot of issues and it was at the dealership over 30 days and was still not repaired. The S.C. Lemon Law allowed me to turn the car back in. I now have a 2017.5 Nissan Murano and I am pleased with the change and glad the dealer did work with me to make this right. Update.... Oct. 11,2018, I am still driving my 2017.5 Nissan Murano and like it very much. Will be looking at trading next year around this time or early spring of 2020. I like to keep up with new car changes. The Murano is still a 5 Star review in my book.

New Nissan Murano Crossover
My first Nissan. I have been impressed so far. My baby is Arctic Blue metallic with black leather interior. I fell in Love with the exterior design. Very sexy! She is gorgeous . Have had it for about a month now. Good gas mileage with extended range. Lots of Interior room, very comfortable. Has a lot of get up and go. All wheel drive is great, snow and Ice no problem.
Generally happy after 50,000 miles
Well, I'm finally getting around to writing another review for my 2013 Nissan Murano SL. I've now had this vehicle for four years now. I just passed the 50,000 mile mark. I have to say, other than normal wear and tear, this SUV hasn't had any problems. I will be needing new tires at the next oil change. The one main complaint I have is that the interior plastics are fading and not holding up all that well. I'm going to get the car detailed in spring and see what they can do about it, if anything. The leather seats are decent for its age. Pros: Nice amenities except I didn't put out the extra 2,100 for GPS. Love the panoramic sunroof. Seats are extremely comfortable. Power driver's seat and passenger power seat are a nice feature. Pretty good power for a CVT transmission. Decent fuel economy but not great. Good Bose sound system. Bluetooth generally works good. Rearview camera is a must and is very helpful, although I feel there should be some type of sound when approaching objects in the rear. Nice ride overall and quiet on the road. Love the power trunk opener and Nissan's keyless system. You never need to take the key out of your pocket. Cons: Daytime running lights should be standard on this car. I understand now most Nissan models have them. Interior materials seems to scratch easily. Headlights are not LED like my 2011 Rogue had. They are not powerful enough. High beams need to be better too. Overall, I like this midsize SUV and have had really no problems in the time I've had it. Hope it continues. In the future I will take a look at the redesigned Murano and see whether it's worth making a change. I would recommend this vehicle if you're looking for a reliable midsized SUV.

Almost Perfect
PROS You will love this car in the snow -- a real trooper. And there's enough metal in front of you to make you feel really safe. Seats are comfy. Front visibility good. Handles well in all kinds of road conditions. MPG good enough. CONS It's noisy at high speeds. The rear window is small. The electronics are well below industry standards. The rain sensor is fitful. The backup camera engages slowly. The car passing behind you in a parking lot warns you after the car is well past. And, amazingly, rain causes your pass warning signals to light up when there's not another soul on the road.

Good, but Bad
This is a good car with one glaring exception. The ride feels a bit top heavy, but otherwise is comfortable. The exception is the transmission. Before we bought we research and were confident that Nissan's transmission's woes were behind them. They ARE NOT. Our's went out after 80,000 miles. From what I read online, this has been an ongoing problem for Nissan for well over 10 years. Yet they refuse to provide any sort of financial help or recall anything. I would not buy a Nissan ever again for this reason. Please note that this comes from someone who has bought and owned Nissans solid since 1991.

Thinking of selling my Murano SL AWD 2014
I like this car but it doesn't have the room of the Odyssey I previously owned. That's the main reason I'm considering trading it in for another Odyssey. The Murano handles well, is great in the snow and has lots of features including satelite radio, bluetooth, Bose sound system, rear view mirror, proximity features, etc. This would be a great car for someone who didn't want more interior space.

Great Auto to own and drive
I bought this SUV New. I have had no problems in the 5 years I have owned it. No repair cost except for maintenance, oil changes, tire rotations, filter changes, and wiper blades. I just changed the battery a couple of months ago. I would say that was great service out of a automobile. It is comfortable to drive and picks up speed without hesitation.

Purchased slightly used and love!
We purchased our Murano slightly used with just over 23000 miles. The body was in perfect condition. I did have to replace the tires after about 6 months because the tires on it were performance tires and they wore down pretty fast. The ride is smooth and the CVT is great. Gas mileage stays just above 20 mpg for me and I drive mostly in the city. I can get between 27-28 mpg on the highway driving around 70 mph. My two teenagers are quite comfortable in the back seat and my husband who is 6'4" is very comfortable driving this vehicle.

Great SUV for the money
Great SUV for the money, ride exceptionally smooth and quiet. Fit and finish is very good as well. Engine performance is right there when needed and the trans is smooth. First time dealing with a CVT, takes a bit of getting use to. Overall I am quite happy with it and had been using mid-grade 89 Shell for quite awhile. The mileage has improve to about 21-22 mpg. The performance also improved significantly even though Nissan did not specify using any grade above 87 unleaded. I just bought 4 new Pirelli (Scorpion Verde) tires last week and what a difference it made. The car ride and handle like never before and I am quite please with it though it was almost $1000. Still quite satisfied with the vehicle overall.

Popping windshield
This was my dream car, had all the bells and whistles and a great size for ease of parking and for suitability for my family. Within a week the windshield started making a popping sound. In cold or heat does not matter. Just pops all the time not just when hitting a bumb. This is very irritating. Dealership says they have fixed it after three visits to convince them it was real. However it never stays fixed and now that it is out of warranty they won’t deal with it. Also Bluetooth system connects great however, no one who calls me can hear a thing I’m saying. Take me off of Bluetooth is all I ever hear them say. So just like popping noise I have had it into dealer consistently for two years and they say it’s fine. Garage mgr finally agreed it’s bad but the wiggled some stuff but oh well it’s as good as it gets. So now that I am out of warranty and still have all the same problems with the car I am very frustrated and would like to lemon law it. Very disappointed with the dealership as well. Not sure what to do now and have a very bad opinion of Nissan as a whole.

My third Murano
I bought a new Murano SL in 2004 then the transmission went out at 120k miles. Then bought a used 2009 Murano SL then the transmission went out at 150k miles. Now own a 2013 Platinum model. I keep buying them because they are very comfortable for big people ( I am 6'4 225 lbs) and they have good power (270 HP) and look great. But there are 'cons'; It is a gas guzzler that requires 91 octane fuel. I am now approaching 100k miles and looking to get another SUV. I am leaning towards a Infiniti QX50.

Best used vehicle I have had in recent years!
Primary complaint is rear visibility. Even tho this is the "S" model with manual seat controls, I am the only driver so combined with tilt/telescopic wheel, I set it all to fit ME and never changes. Mine being in almost like new shape in spite of the miles, $12 k was a bargain! Time will tell re reliability, BUT made in Japan ('J' is 1st letter of VIN), I feel better about its quality over a US-made car. I love it, since I refuse to buy new and lose equity in first 5 min!

Floating down the road
My Nissan Murano is wonderful. It is a 2014 but more than everything I need and even wore than I wished for. It is comfortable, it handles very well and turns within a small circle. If has a long enough wheel base to provide a luxury ride and if is wider than most of the cars I have had before. Even at 7 years old it is perfect and total luxury.
Nice Vehicle
We have owned the Murano since 2017. Bought it used with 17K miles. We have the AWD S. Like other reviews the ride is excellent and comfortable. Plenty of interior room. Ride is quiet. There really haven't been any mechanical issues. Have about 93k miles on it now. Plenty of room for hauling especially with the back seat down. Update: I have about 120K miles now. Car still rides great. Body is in great shape. Had to replace the front catalytic which is also part of the front pipe. That was a $1200 repair. Also the usual P0456 code evap leak and the purge valve. That was about $100 but it was easy to replace which I did myself. No issues with the CVT at all (fingers crossed). It's been a good vehicle. I recommend this vehicle. Stay away from Muranos 2010 or earlier. They are well known to have early CVT failure. Big bucks to replace the CVT.

CVT? Not for me...
This car is comfortable and it has a lot of room for very tall passengers. I would have preferred a higher trim level, but be I should have known the "S" wouldn't cut it. The lack of a moon roof, roof rack and factory subwoofer are terrible compromises that I should never have made. When they say you don't know what you've got till it's gone, they must have been talking about getting this car agree having a 2006 Honda CR-V... Yes, I said 2006. The thing I dislike the most about my Murano has to be the Continuously Variable Transmission, or CVT. If you previously had a car with a little bit of pickup, do not get one with a CVT. You go to accelerate and it takes 15 to 20 seconds longer than you expect to get up to speed, and then if you have to pass someone in any kind of traffic, God help you, because after you move into the next lane and hit the gas to try and overtake them you'll be lucky if it doesn't take 3 full seconds to respond, and even then another 5 seconds to start gaining on the car you're supposed to be passing, which makes you look like a douchebag who cut people off in the "fast lane" for no reason but to make everybody mad. Later though when you're pulling out of a parking lot and into traffic, make sure there are no cars in the lane you're entering within a mile, because if they are, and you pull out in front of them, it will take you so long for your car to reach a decent speed, that they'll have to slam on their brakes & will think you cut them off, and didn't even try to get going faster before they got there & again, you look like the bad guy! Also, the CVT supposedly helps with fuel efficiency but I get 15 mpg, so obviously it doesn't help enough to make all of the trouble worth it...
Great Car!
One of the best cars I have ever owned. My 2013 has 72K miles and has only one issue. The tailgate sensor went out which was covered by a five-year extended warranty that I purchased when the car was new. The warranty company covered the $900.00 repair. Without a doubt I would repurchase another Murano Platinum series. I traded my 2013 Murano in for a 2020 Murano Platinum model in December of 2002 and am happy to report that Nissan continues to build a great SUV in this series!

Transmission Issues!!! (2003 - 2023)
I was one of the first persons to buy a Murano in 2003. After 118,000 miles, the transmission died. Because I loved the smooth feel of the CVT transmission, I bought another Murano (2007) thinking my first Murano was an isolated event. Unfortunately, the 2007 Murano also needed a new transmission after 110,000 miles. So, I traded it in and reluctantly bought yet another Murano (2014), thinking that they had ironed out the CVT problems after 11 years. Well, I was WRONG! The 2014 also lost its transmission at 110,000 miles in 2020. Due to the scarcity of new cars in 2020, I paid $5200 to have it replaced. To my surprise, two years and 35,000 miles later, the transmission is badly leaking and appears to need replacing again. NOPE...No more Muranos for me! FWIW, I do not abuse my vehicles. I did have a towing package on all three, but I only tow a jetski with trailer, which is very much under 1500 lbs total. Plus, I only use towing a few times a year. Ironically, the Murano used to be rated for 3000 lbs towing. Now, the 2023 Murano is magically rated for only 1500 lbs. Why? Because Nissan knows that the CVT on a 6-cylinder, 260 HP Murano is undersized. So, they reduced the towing capacity... Nothing else changed. It simple physics...The more weight, the more inertia, and the more torque it requires through the transmission. Do your research and you will see that the ONLY 6-cylinder car with a CVT is the Murano. All other cars are 4-cylinder and less than 200 HP. Nissan reps know that the Murano transmission has issues, but nothing is done about it. When my 2003 transmission died in 2007, I created a forum on Edmunds.com to complain. The forum exposed hundreds of people with similar issues. But, instead of issuing an expensive recall, Nissan ended up extending their powertrain warranty to 120,000 miles. Hmmm...coincidence??? Hardly! Technically, there is nothing wrong with a CVT. Murano uses a belt CVT. Subaru uses a chain CVT. Other brands vary. The advantage of a CVT is that it accelerates very smoothly, which is why I kept buying a Murano. Over the years, other car companies have realized that the CVT should be limited to 4-cylinders. So, they removed it from 6-cylinder SUV's. I fully believe that Nissan knows they have a problem with the CVT in a 6-cylinder Murano, but they would have major issues if they tried to remove it from the Murano. They would have to explain why they are removing it, which could expose the truth and bring on many class action suits. Instead, they lowered the towing capacity to 1500 lbs, which allows them to blame the user of excessive towing if the car has an installed trailer hitch. But, it does nothing to address the 6-cylinder engine that still generates too much torque for their CVT even without towing. For me, I am done with Nissan. I purchased a Subaru Forester (4-cylinder) with a standard chain-driven CVT and absolutely LOVE IT!! I have to admit that I like the acceleration way better on the Forester than the Murano. So, if you are like me and you like the smooth CVT feel, then I suggest you forget about the Murano and look at other brands. Or, be sure to trade your car before the 100,000 mile mark.

I was looking to buy a crossover and compared RX350, ACURA RDX and CX9. After a deep analysis and with several test drives between these vehicles then I settle down with Murano. The build quality of interior, ride comfort, smoothness and value for money is really high for Murano when compare to other crossover vehicles. If I really need of third row then CX9 is my next choice. But I liked this two row crossover because I sensed the size of the vehicle is well balanced and appropriate to drive.

Great all around vehicle
This is my second Murano. Sadly, I rear ended someone, at about 15 MPH, and that was it. My insurance company "totalled it", as apparently when the air bags go off on this vehicle, the computer is fried. Cost to fix..$12,000. I got a very fair shake from them, and replaced my '12 with a '14. Have driven it for 3 years, have 47,000 miles, and haven't had one issue. It rides great, not a peep, and has served us well. I did put Goodyear tires on it, same as the one I totalled, and it is smooooth. I really love this vehicle. Can't understand the comments about cargo space. My buddies marvel that we can all fit our golf clubs horizontally, without having to take out our longer clubs, My buddy's Cherokee can't do that. The back window is small, but hey, that's the wave of the future. Mileage runs about 19 city, 25 hy. Update...10/2022... 72,000 miles and still very happy! Have spent a few dollars on routine maintence, but that's it.....new battery yesterday, regular oil changes, cabin air filter....peanuts. My daughter drives it in the WI winter while we're in FL and she loves it! Handles the snow like a tank. I'm tempted to sell it at times and trade up, but why sell a good...no, great, vehicle. Someone in our family, if not me, will drive this fine vehicle for years.

An Actual Pleasant Surprise....
I will start by saying that I do not own the vehicle in this review, but it is a company car that I have been assigned and have been driving it for about a year and a half. However, I felt that after this long, I can offer a detailed review of the Murano's Strengths and faults. When the Murano first made its debut way back in 2003, (Can't believe it's that long ago now) I would have to say wasn't a big fan of the styling. The skinny taillights and bulbous sheet metal took some time for me to digest. The 2009 refresh improved the looks in my eyes, but overall the styling is love it or leave it. The longer I have had it, the more it has grown on me. Chrome door handles and body accents at the bottoms of the doors add a touch of class. Sleek, tall and moderately sized. The clever packaging, however, does make it shorter than my Toyota Avalon and Ford Taurus, taking up less space in the driveway but also offering more utility and versatility than both. This Murano is an AWD SL model in white with a tan cloth interior with taupe accents and brushed metal accent trim. I like the color combination on this car. Driving the Murano is a somewhat mixed bag. For an SUV with AWD it is very quiet on the road as far as it's ride is concerned. Plenty of power on tap for passing situations on the highway. Once you get used to the CVT transmission it's not bad at all, but I find the CVT somewhat loud and thrashy when compared to my other personal vehicles. Braking is powerful and confident. Takes corners well for an SUV but I wouldn't push it too much. Does really well in the snow in the harsh Colorado winters. Was out in the Pike National Forest the other day and had to climb a dirt road with a 15% steepness grade and though I had my doubts in the moment, this vehicle did not miss a beat. Front visibility is good. Nice large sideview mirrors help you to see what is going on around you. Somewhat of a blind spot in the rear. Some may have to crane their neck to make sure no one is there. Gas mileage is not terrible for a vehicle of this size. Depending on driving style I usually get about 375-425 miles per tank. But I drive this thing a lot and haven't really sat down to calculate the actual mileage. The information panel on the instrument cluster showed about 23mpg on average. Highway driving is hushed and composed and where the Murano truly shines. The interior is well designed. High quality materials are found throughout, and even though the SL is somewhat of a mid-grade model, it manages to feel somewhat upscale. Even with the cloth upholstery (I tend to be partial to leather upholstery in cars), this feels like a high quality product. High level of equipment available here. Bluetooth calling with steering wheel controls, cruise control, dual zone a/c, power windows and locks, apple interface, locking AWD, push button start, full power front seats on both sides, rear a/c and a plethora of storage bins and cubbies. It's easy to get comfortable in this vehicle. I Particularly like the bright instrument panel display. It includes helpful information like outside temp and distance till empty. The front windows can also be lowered through the key fob. Versatility is also good. The shapely sheet metal cuts into available cargo capacity, which is a little bit of a bummer, but with the rear seats folded, you have a good sized cargo area for moving some moderately large items if need be. Open the rear hatch and a nice high cargo floor greets you. I also like the side handles in the rear cargo area that will lower the seat flat if need be. Makes folding them down nice and easy. The rear seat also reclines for passenger comfort when they are upright and in use. The are also rear seat heater ducts in the B-pillars for added passenger comfort. Overall, I think the 2014 Murano could still make a good used vehicle for a family or anyone who would want to have one. This vehicle definitely has a lot of great features and comfort to offer. I won't deny, however, that the reliability track record of the CVT is somewhat hit or miss. I have seen some Muranos go to over 250k and others seem to spend a lot of time in the shop. The good news is that it isn't mine and if it goes, I won't be paying for Nissan to replace the transmission. I just hope that if it happens, I'm not on the top of Monument Hill in a snowstorm Lol. Just do your research and decide what is best for you. Great vehicle, but somewhat of a relief that I do not own it personally.

More Murano!
We've had our eyes on the Murano for a while, and it does not disappoint. I wish there was back passenger climate control, and better speakers in the back. I has Bose, and the front is GREAT, but the back doesn't stand up to the Bose reputation. I really can't complain though. It's a great vehicle.

2014 Nissan Murano ABS acuator recall
Be aware of the 2015-2017 ABS acuator recall on this vehicle....but not this year. Acuator went out after 43,000 miles. Should have lasted well over 100,000 miles. $2400 fix. Spoke to Nissan and they would not budge in helping. This is a KNOWN ISSUE that Nissan is aware of because they did recall on it. Just be aware that the 2014 probably has the same issue as that 2015-2017 but Nissan is not will to stand behind their product. There are plenty of other SUV's to purchase but I would stay away from this one and Nissan all together.

Nissan has left a bad taste in my mouth and will never ever recommend Nissan to anyone. Bought top of the line Murano in 2015 with Nissan extended warranty for 7 years and 72K Miles and the exhausted rusted and broke after 60K miles. And the response from Nissan its not covered
