The car to run
I've owned three consecutive Maximas over the years: '91, '94, '03. I've not heard of a more consistently reliable and fun to drive vehicle. The ONLY problems I've encountered are fuel injectors which tend to go after 120,000 miles or so. These cars are beyond what you could ask for in reliability. Change the oil, throw in some brake pads when needed, and maybe a muffler over the life of the car, and you won't ever have to worry about anything else.
My Maxima
I love my maxima. I got it for a great price, half the blue book, and have driven it crazy. I bought it my senior year in high school with 100,000 miles on it and only had minor problems during college (none my dad couldn't fix) I now have 240,000 miles on my maxima and it still drives so wonderfully. I cant get myself to buy another car because they dont match up in driving, features, or anything else! It will capture your heart.

The best car I ever had
My '94 Maxima was probably one of the best cars ever made. It had 174,000 miles when I bought it, and the engine was completely solid. I never had a problem with my Max. I even got into a rather large accident on the freeway where I was hit by a semi and then rammed the metal center divide, and I left without a scratch or sore neck. Even though the car was totalled, it still ran long enough for me to get it to a body shop.
Nice, but...
I loved this car the first 5 years I had it. Then, literally 3,000 miles and 2 months after the warranty expired all of the window mechanisms broke and the transmission died. It was amazing. Needless to say, I kept the car because it cost me a fortune to fix, but my next car won't be a Nissan.
I love Maxima's
I purchased my '94 Maxima almost a year and a half ago. It's got 94k on it now and it is still a very powerful car. Antenna didn't work when I bought it...cost to fix $300. Other than that no problems at all. It is an awesome car and it is very dependable. I would recommend Maxima's to anyone. I will definitely buy from Nissan again.
strong caaaar for a little women
My husband bought this car for me when I got my first driving license. I was reluctant about driving this strong monster. After getting the hang of it, I just fall in love with this car. I can be sure the power is there whenever I need it. But when it comes to the gas station, my heart just beat a little faster. Hell it drinks gas !
takes a licking...
had this car through college and after, took very poor care of it, and it still runs superbly. Of course I take a lot better care of it now, but it took a good 3-4 years of hard abuse and rarely, if ever, gave me maintenance problems. Extremely durable and a great buy.
Pretty Good For Five Years
I’ve had My Maxima for 5 years and 100,000 miles. Overall it has been an excellent Value. I’ve replace the timing chain, and the brakes twice, and both struts. At about 150,000 miles it has started to lose a lot of power, but still drives really nice. Smooth on the highway and awesome in the snow. I’ve plowed this baby at 40MPH though 6 inches of unplowed roadway and never lost control. Definitely getting another Nissan. Had some problems with the electrical, no clock LED broke, Cruise Control doesn’t work, one power window doesn’t work, other than that this car has never stranded me, and always starts, runs excellent.
What a Great Car
Other than routine maintenance not much work has had to be done. The only grips I have are about the door locks and the windows. I have one window that is not operational. My driver side door lock doesn't work and hasn't for quite some time. I also had a problem with the passenger and trunk locks but they were able to be saved. Thank god for the keyless entry. I also have had to fix the radio. From my understand, from the person that fixed it, the problem I had with my Bose radio was one that was happening with many of the radios. One last grip, every time I get my front brakes changed they are excessivly noisy which takes a while to go away.
Ozee Maxima
The auto is is in excellent mechanical shape. All service records from the time of purchase are available for review. The car has high mileage, 194,000, the majority being highway miles. New Michelin tires. Exterior in good condition and the car has never been wrecked. Power steering, air conditioning, power windows, doors & locks are all in working condition(except for rear passenger door window). Automatic transmission. Keypad entry system and drivers side air bag.
Best Car I've Owned
Purchased car in 1996 from private owner. Put on 50,000 miles since. Great car. Good blend of sport and luxury. Have repaired electric windows (2). and antenna No other major problems other than common maintenance. Great used car if you can find one with lower miles. Great ride with good power. Styling is not outdated.
Reliable, you can't beat it!
I bought this car in 96. It had 23,000 miles on it. It now has 113,000. Have had no major problems with this car. VERY RELIABLE. I have had problems with the power windows. Had to replace motor and regulator on 3 windows. Breaks squeal and no matter what I do to have them fixed..they still squeal. Other than these problems, this car is durable and practical for people who want little or no expensive maintenance problems for a lonnnnnnnnnng time!
Tank's Review
Second Nissan Maxima owned - very positive experience.
MY Gold 94 Max
The car was completely load. Even with SOHC 160hp engine this car still rock even with 150,000 miles. The tricks is you have to do the maintenance on the vehicle. If you dont do anything else change the OIL EVERY 3000 miles and get the engine flushed @ least once a year to get rid of carbon deposit. Also get that timing belt changed between every 60 & 80,000 miles. The dealer recommends you use 87 octane, well, Ive tried 87 octane and the car just doesnt act right. Use SUNCO 93 OCTANE. Gas makes a difference. Even with 150,000 miles. I still can reach 130mph.
Nice Car for the price
I've had the car a little while now. It has all reoccuring problems of the 3rd generation Max. Window regulators, antenna, and transmission slipage. Other than that its a great bang for the buck. The bose system is easily replaced w/better speakers and a CD player. If ya got music and a peppy car what else do you need. The thing tops out at 135mph with 140k miles. That's reliability... Especially w/me beatin it to hell in my college yrs. If you want a car that will take a lickin' and keep tickin', you got a taker
Can't beat it for the money
I have had the car for 5.5 years & 100,000 miles of it's life. At 171K the car doesn't leak a drop of fluid and runs like a scared cat. Normal window regulators, antenna & ABS sensor problems. No transmission problems. At 11 years old the car requires service, love and care. However, for the money, I doubt one can beat the performance & reliability. Unbelievable.
Great Car
This is a great vehicle, especially for 1st time drivers. I've had no problems and plan on staying with nissan for a long time
A great car!
I've had this car 4 months now and no major problems on a ten year old car. And with 206,000 That baby still hits 135mph easily. Just like everyone else the window regulator had to be fixed (drivers), and the transmission has its days. Fun to drive, I go almost everyday over my 00 Focus wagon which of course is much slower.
Excelent Car
This is one of the best cars you can buy for your money. The car drives like a sports car with all the bells and whistles of a luxury car. My personal car has 183,000 miles on it and it still runs like brand new. The maxima is a vehicle all its own.
Excellent Car but not good on gas
I bought this car nearly 3 years back and didn't had any problems so far. Very reliable and solid car. The mileage on my car is about 139,000. The car rides smoothly and the power steering is great. It's really stable over 100 mph. The only drawback is the gas mileage, usually gives me about 17 mpg. Three years ago it was not a problem for me but given the current gas prices, it really pinches my pocket. I was in the process of buying an used but reliable car good on gas, i drove many cars, but none was close to the smooth ride and comfort of maxima. If only the gas mileage were good, I would love to keep this car.
115,000 miles and still going
The car has never given me a problem in the 7 years I've been driving it. The only thing that needed to be replaced was the exhaust system (rust- $300). The paint still shines like new, the engine is quiet and smooth, mileage is great, transmission still working fine. I now drive about 500 miles a week on trips and the car gives me no reason to believe it won't make the trip. Very happy with it.
Awesome car
I have had this car for just about 4 years now and never had a problem with it. I bought it used and the only thing I had to do was have the cadilic converter cleaned out because I needed and early tuneup. I got the tuneup and have never had the problem again. This car has been the best that I have owned. I had the chance to trade it in and wouldn't. I have come to rely on it as I know it will take me where ever I need it too. Taking it on trips has been a very comfortable experience. We bought a 2002 Olds Alero and my husband has taken my Maxima, (which won't be for long), he loves the car.
A good basic midsize sedan
I bought my '94 Maxima in 1998 with 61,414 miles on it and drove it 16,000 miles over the next four years. Maintenance cost was $1100 including $300 for four new tires. This car ran reliably, without fail, and was enjoyable to drive. One of the better cars I've owned, but not really memorable.
1994 Nissan Maxima SE 4dr Sedan
After test driving the Maxima two years ago, I realized it was the car for me. Dark green with beige leather and every option imaginable, with quality and reliability to match, I'd recommend the Maxima to everyone I know. It's got great acceleration, handling, build quality, and it's fun to drive. No major repairs to note, other than antenna and passenger-side power window.
Maxima - truly excellent value and fun
My Maxima is probably the best overall combination of value, practicality, reliability, and fun of any car I've ever had, including a Mercedes, a wonderful VW Beetle, and other good cars. It seems to be the best in its class, and competes fairly well against cars in the next class up, such as a Volvo S80 that I sometimes drive. Zero unscheduled maintenance in over 80,000 miles, which I've never experienced before with any other car.
applesauce
It was and Is still very good. But there are some technal probloms.
3rd Maxima Owned
This is my second 1994 Nissan Maxima and I bought it once again do to it's reliability, power and speed. It drives good in the rain with decent to new tires along in the snow. It's pick up is awesome! Basically keep up with the annual 3000 miles oil change and everything will be alright along with it's tune ups.
8 Years later.
After 8 yrs. I finally had to part with this car. Reason the engine was at its end. I bought the car it had 35,000 miles. After 240,000 miles, nearly 200,000 mi I put on myself. This second hand car was great!!! Everything still worked with the proper or minor maintenance. I can't complain to bad it served me well. I had some minor problems, but nothing to second guess me to by another Maxima so I did. I purchased 2002 Max SE 6spd man. The 94 Max interior was a lot quieter less road noise. If anyone finds one that was well taken cared of, jump on it! Great 2nd car for a High/College kid. Read MY Gold 94 Max Date Posted: 02/24/2003
