Hasn't Let Me Down Yet
My 2000 Mitsubishi Diamante has been extremely reliable and fun to drive. I've always liked the styling of the Diamantes, and you get a really nice car for a reasonable price. The only disadvantages I've observed are their poor resale value, and some components could be of higher quality. For example, I was told at 38,000 miles that my struts were going to need to be replaced soon. (However, I haven't replaced them, and it still rides fine.) The other quality issues were more cosmetic in nature, like a trim piece that peeled.
Nice but not reliable
This car has been fun the first 15K miles, but it has been in the shop for 19 different problems, and after the warranty expired the costs of keeping it are very high. In the last few months I spent about $500/mo on repairs and some maintenance. As much as I like my Mitsu, I am ready to trade it in for a new car. It is a shame, because the car has only 50K miles and looks great. I maintained it well, did all the required services, but I can keep up with the costs of repairs. The biggest problems I have: ABS breaks, AC system, suspension. I had three Mitsubishis since 1989 and had my share of problems but this time I am sure that this is my last Mitsu.
Diamante is quality
I love the comfort and style of the Diamante. I bought a 93 the first time and traded it for a 99. The 93 was better, but still, I have 34,000+ miles at this point and never a service call. The one thing I have doubts about is the comparison of Diamante to Galant. They look the same, just a slight size difference. It bugs me that mine cost twice as much. I might go for the Galant next time. But people very often ask me about this car, even at 3 1/2 years old, because it looks so good! Recently discovered the resale value is much lower than expected, though. Buy one and keep it!!
Great Car
I have enjoyed my vehicle over the past 5 years. The resale and trade-in are really low though compared to other cars like it.
Under appreciated
If you are looking for a great sedan that has all the quality and gadgets of a car selling for $10,000 more than you have selected the right one. This is my second Diamante, the first went for well over 100,000 miles with no problems at all.
