Bought new. Great vehicle!
The GL was a new model when we bought it new. We maxed out the options and glad that we did. The cameras, Dystronic, etc. are great and provide excellent safety. We're spoiled. Update in 2020: We still use the GL daily with approx 95,000 miles on it. It's my wifes car and she loves it. Can't get her to consider a new one!

2013 Mercedes GL450 -- Hidden Gem in Big SUV's
We purchased a low-mile CPO vehicle from Ft. Lauderdale Mercedes. The GL450 is a real deal compared to competing vehicles such as Lexus LX and GM Suburbans. Much nicer, better ride and more comfortable.

Cheema
Very poor material used; things started falling apart in the first week. Brakes were squeaking right away.I took it to dealership 7 times in first 4 months. Moldings were falling apart, and rear door molding started breaking apart in th first three months. The lever of the rear folding seat broke in first few weeks. Having driven a Land Cruiser and Lexus LX470, the quality of this car was nowhere near that of those cars. Bought in Sept 2012 and sold after having driven for 14,000 miles in 2014

BEWARE: I Loved Her...but She burned me
I bought my GL450 used—she was a peach. I did my research and test drove all the lux SUVs that would tow my airstream. Once I drove the GL450, I was sold. Great power, smooth ride, comfortable for a family of 4 -5 to take cross-country road trips or a camping trip to the mountains. She was great going up and down the mountains and maneuvered fantastic with our airstream around curves or on the Interstate. BUT...I knew going in that she would cost me a pretty penny if/when she was in the shop, so I bought the best warranty I could find. Glad I did! I had Her for a year and for four of those months, she was in for repairs to the EVAP system—Heat not working, Engine light on, EVAP pressure problems, Heat Core problems, Air Coolant Hose replaced...over $16K. Mercedes Service wasn't much help. Ready for it? Her engine caught fire while I was in line to pick up my kids at school. I WATCHED HER BURN. The investigator could not find any conclusive evidence of the cause, but he suggested it was connected to the EVAP system. So glad I wasn't on the road at the time. I LOVED everything about this car. But if you are researching a used one and see a carfax report that the EVAP, Heating, Cooling, or Exhaust system has been checked around 100K-BEWARE! It's going to cost you! Once one thing goes anywhere along the system, it stresses everything else down the line and you will live at the repair shop. BE CAREFUL.

2013 GL550
At the end of October 2012 we traded in my wife's 2008 Mercedes 4matic (station wagon) for a new Mercedes 2013 GL550. We love the exterior design of the car and the flexibility on the interior design with the third row seats. The acceleration of the car is incredible-no problem merging onto the freeway or passing. Gas mileage is not the cars strong suit but I did not expect it to be. Now the bad, at 4000 miles the car needs new front rotors which are not yet a stocking item at my dealership-10 day wait! A In addition both side view mirrors are defective-drivers side is frosted and the passenger's side has two stripped bolts off its backing plate.
