the best car ever (considering cost). i have owned it for 7 years. now have 208,000 miles on it. never had problems. every time i get into it, i have fun. interior and exterior designs are great. it is roomy, even for 4 people (try getting into an eclipse). seats are still comfortable after 13 years of use. it is fast (145 hp, 190 torque). best of all: top speed of 133 mph. not many cars can do that. even the expensive ones. if you can find one in good shape, buy it (manual transmission only).

I've had this car for 13 years now and have replaced the auto tranny neutral switch, ignition coil, EGR, fan switch, radiator, and distributor. I love the auto tranny shift points but the idle vibration is a bit rough. The exhaust manifold nuts need to be retightened occasionally, but the car is otherwise very reliable and quick. It has almost 150,000 miles on everything but the engine, which has about 60,000 miles on it (previous owner overheated the first one). It will be hard for me to sell this car, but I think a good replacement will be a Mazdaspeed MX5 (now that I don't need to transport kids around).

In 4 years i have owned my 6, I have never brought it to the mechanic. No problems with my baby. The car is fun to drive especially when your turbo kicks in around 2600rpm. Only problem i have notice is that there has to be at least 4 feet of piping from the turbo to the intercooler to the throttle. Too much bottleneck, If you free that up it'll be much much better!

1988 Mazda MX-6GT Owned since new

I bought my 1988 MX6-GT new in Dec 1987. The Celica and Prelude were its competition. I bought the Mazda because it had more features and performance for the money. The car has phenomenal performance, it certainly feels like it put outs much more than its 140 HP/190 Ft-pounds torque ratings. The car was driven in Korea during 1988-1992 (I'm in the Air Force) and sat in storage for another three years (1995-1998) during another overseas assignment. Nearly four years ago I decided to sink some money in it instead of buying a new car. I installed an upgraded exhaust, 17 inch wheels and tires, sport shocks/struts, Eibach lowering springs, sheepskins, and a Momo steering wheel.

It is a great looking little car . Especially for as old as it is. Great paint and style, but it has been nothing but a money pit. I have spent hundreds this last year and am on foot as we speak. I would love to be driving it, but I am tired of calling tow trucks.

This is my first car and I love it. I got the 5-speed, and it is fun to drive. I have the LX model, while it is only listed at 110 hp, it performs reall well. It has 144000 miles on it and it is running great. It has power everything, including a fully retractbale sunroof. I think that this would be a great first car for anyone, but the next car I get will hopefully have a little more power. GET THE 5-SPEED!!

I have owned for 13 years. Great car if oil change is done every 3000 miles. Few problems like the antenna (after 12 years working fine). Powerful car that needs to be driven responsibly or be prepared for a dozen tickets every year. I'll keep mine until fall appart.

I've had my MX-6 for almost 12 years, and it has been an excellent reliable vehicle. I have a 5-speed with the original clutch! Kept the oil changed about every 4k and timing belt every 75k, and now have 198,000k miles on mine. The AC did go out about a year ago, and the paint job is fading badly, but the engine still purrs like a kitty. I plan to buy another Mazda.

I bought this car about 12 years ago, and I have had minimal problems with it. I have loved owning this car, and transport everything from plants to antique windows and doors. I've had a few problems with the A/C, and the antenne mast, but otherwise, this has been a fantastic car that has never left me standed.

MX-6: Ups and downs

Performance with the automatic transmission is weak. The car seems fast until you put it to the ground with the pedal half way and there's no more power at some speeds. Styling is good for a car in its price and year and my paint job has still not faded. It is white but red tends to fade. Cupholders are nonexistant and my A/C weakened out. Engine has survived a ruthless assault and seems to deal well with beatings. There just always seems to be new problems coming up. My motor mounts cracked and this is quite common for this car. Overall it's not a bad car for the price. Others seemed to have a little better luck than me with the car so I think the previous owner was tough on the car.

I bought my car (a retired demo model with 3K miles on it) straight from the dealer. In addition to being extremely reliable, my Mazda is fun to drive and a real beauty. Whenever I pull up to a glass-front store, I am taken by the beauty of my car. :) This car will keep going as long as it is properly maintained.

I've owned my car for about 3 months now and it has had its problems here and there but it was really easy to get it back up and running. It's a very reliable car and it's awesome for doing front wheel take offs. I thought when i bought it that I would have a lot of troubles with it but so far none really besides a little seasonal car maintenance. So I would give this car a very good rating and tell anyone who is looking for a reliable car to buy this type if they aren't looking into to spending a whole lot on the car. Now that I own one it looks like a Nissan Skyline from the outside so I am painting it just like the one on 2 Fast 2 Furious.

I just bought a 1990 Mazda MX6 for my older sister, and I almost want to keep it for myself! Almost-modern styling, GREAT pick-up, comfortable ride, AWESOME gas mileage, and fun to drive. This little car can accelerate! My sister and I raced (I have a 1996 Mustang GT) and it stayed with me until about 30 mph. Love the car, it's cheap, reliable, and has cool, unique styling. If it's cheap, and in good shape... BUY IT! Great investment.

I bought my Mazda for $425 with new tires and clutch. I had to replace many aged items(brakes, axle, tie rod, brake hoses, sway bar). The clutch master cylinder was bad, but it lasted. I loved the power my Mazda had and the get-up was great. I smoked many sportscars without even shifting out of 4th. That car had amazing power and unless I was racing the fuel economy was great. One little tap on the gas pedal and your head got thrown back. The front seats had plenty of room, but the back was a little crammed. It ate oil for dinner and you could smell it. I traded the car in when it started to nickel and dime me to death on an Escort. I miss the ol' Mazda and won't forget it's purr.

I was so amazed with this car's performance. You can really feel the power when the turbo kicks in. The ride is quite smooth and the sport suspension makes for very good handing. The bucket seats give it that added sporty feel. For a car that is 11 years old, you wouldn't believe it's reliabilty. It's got 110 000 kms and I haven't encountered any engine problems. I'm a police officer and this car definately beats out our Crowns and Impala's in acceleration.

I bought this car out of the 'wholesale' pen, and it has been one of the BEST cars I have had. It has been my daily driver for over 2 years now. The only thing I had to replace was the starter. I have kept up with the oil changes and maintenance, as it already had 105000 when I bought it. I love my little car and am still driving it today! I plan on buying another Mazda (Mazda6) in the future, but plan to keep this one.

I bought a 91 mx6 gt turbo for only 1200. This car is amazingly fun to drive. Corners amazingly with stock suspension. Unfortunately I drove it a little to hard one day by overheating after jumping a knob and blew the turbo and warped the head. But parts are cheap and now its running awesome again with a few tweaks this car can be pretty damn fast. Nothing like the feeling of the turbo snapping your neck back. The only automatic I've driven where the wheels will squeal when shifting into second.

Bought car new in 1992. Has 217,000 miles on it with no major repairs other than tires, brakes, tune-ups, exhaust, etc. Have a friend with the same car with 162,000 miles. Has been a great vehicle. Only problems have been with paint fading (parked outside) and tire wear. Would buy another for my kids if I could find a manual trans model in good shape.

I've had this vehicle since new. We've placed 230,000 miles on it and its been absolutely outstanding. Drives and ride today just as when we drove it off the lot. Other than preventative maintenance, there's been practically no maintenance to it. It was the Motor Trend Car of Year I think at the time and its been worthy of that ranking. 230,000 miles and still has the original clutch.
