i love this car
I just bought a Mazda MVP two days ago. The one I bought was New. This car is great. I love it, my wife loves it, and my child thinks it's cool. I told my mother this is the best thing I've ever owned except my house. Two big thumbs up
MPV is nearly perfect
The MPV is by far the sexiest minivan on the road, and it has plenty of room in all rows. The controls are awesome, and the shift lever over the air conditioning is not a problem. Acceleration is great even with only 200 HP. I wouldn't say it corners like a car, but it does corner well and takes bumps with hardly a twitch that make my Nissan Sentra shudder. The controls on the steering wheel are fabulous and the wheel itself is very comfortable to hold. See Favorite Features below for more compliments. My main gripe: mileage is 15/21, although I'm still tweaking the tire pressure.

great van, great price
I pondered a while about which minivan to purchase and test drove Odyssey, Sienna and MPV. In the end I decided on MPV because of its size and its cost. MPV's size is just right - can fit a lot of stuff, but handling and parking is like that of a sedan. We had this van for a few weeks and it's been great. It really is fun to drive. My wife, who was very worried about driving a minivan is perfectly comfortable with it now. So far I didn't notice any problems with the car (like mentioned missed gear shifts). Finally, it is 3-4 K cheaper to comparably equipped Odyssey!
A great little minivan
This minivan is a great vehicle for small families--we have 2 kids and it fits us and all of our stuff very nicely! It's not too big & drives like a car!! It's priced well for our tight budget!
2004 Mazda MPV LX
This is our second MPV and this one is great. I like the electric doors, rearview mirror that darkens, DVD, and this one gets better gas mileage than our 2001 did. We've been getting 22 mpg in town driving. It's quiet and rides nicely.
Perfect for us
Excellent car like ride vs. bus like Odyssey test drive.
Gear Shift
We bought this van a month ago and we love it - the only thing that I see as a problem is that the gear shift is too big and the windshield wipers shift is on the same side. The gear shift should be smaller and the windshield wiper shift should be on the side where the lights are. Other than that it is a great van and would highly recommend it.
Great Minivan
I don't really know what to say yet have only had it for a few hours. Already put 100 miles on it. I've been looking for a minivan for a couple of months & was priced out of the Toyota Sienna LE also tested the Odessy & Freestar. Took a test drive in the MPV LX with the LX plus package & was hooked. Price of 19,500 after rebate I was sold.
I love this car!
This is the first Mazda I've ever owned and I've been pleasantly surprised. It IS fun to drive..does have "zoom, zoom, zoom" especially when passing or getting on a hiway. Its my 4th Minivan.(can't live without one) and tho its smaller than previous car..Its just the right size for me..both for hauling work and traveling. In fact..the size is the reason I got it. Not too happy about the milage..but I got it as we were in the midst of the gas hike and I live in New York.
Zoom, Zoom, Zoom!
This mini van is very comfortable, and roomy enough for 7 adults to sit comfortably. The cargo hold is very versatile, as it features a flip down rear seat which allows the rear cargo space to be completely flat for transporting large objects. With the rear seat flipped up, the rear cargo hold becomes a nice sized pocket able to hold gracery bags steady for the trip home. Plenty of room for luggage, too. We took a car trip with 2 adults, and three teenage children, and we all fit into the car comfortably, including two pieces of luggage each!
Lovein' it. Zoom-Zoom
I love my MPV. I will buy another one.
Great Choice
I never thought I'd buy another vehicle after my first Honda. A vehicle that I still have after 12 years and 200,000 miles. However my Mazda MPV is everything that I wanted in a vehicle as a young father. I'm a believer now.
5 weeks in with the 04 MPV
After test driving EVERY minivan, we went with the MPV. Smaller-sure but handling is amazing, parking easy, braking unbelievably short, quality high, price well-we bought the LX fully loaded with every option and package except tow package, got a 5000 dealer discount, 500 loyalty bonus, 500 graduate bonusand a great price to start with. Out the door with TTL $20,100. Add to that the unbelievable tradein allowance for our Jetta $12, 500, and we owe less than 7 grand after tax allowance. What a dealership! Oh yeah, and they thru in a 100000 mile/7 year extended warranty and 3 oil changes for free! A similarly equiped, honda was even close $26000. if you prize style over size, get this van.
Loving it so far
It may be a bit early to tell, but so far I'm thrilled that we decided on the MPV. I can't find but one flaw, the gear shifter, when in D is in the way of the volume control and the A/C on/off switch. The van handles great and doesn't feel like any minivan I've ever driven. Interior is quiet but sporty. Looking forward to a long-term relationship with this MPV!
Worlds best minvan
I have been looking for quite a while to replace my '94 Ford Thunderbird with a vehicle with higher seating, I am a senior and getting in and out of my Ford was becomming more difficult. I have researched many vehicles on the web and in dealer showrooms. I looked at Windstars,Dodge Caravans, CR- Vs,Escapes, Xterras, etc. Mazda reviews rated the MPV an excellent minivan. I test drove a MPV at Community Motors in Oak Forest ,Il. and was "hooked".Iwas impressed with the comfort, the visibility, the power and the high quality of the product. I brought my wife back and we bought the car, enough said.
What a great deal!!
The wife and I finally purchased one after two years of mulling it over. We couldn't pass up the deal--LX with 4-seasons, Traction-side airbags, LX Plus, roof rack, for $20,500 plus tax, and 3.9% financing. Its ride is unlike any other minivan's. In fact, the suspension is downright firm (surprising, almost BMW-ish?), and it handles great. On top of that, it's the best looking mini out there, inside and outside. The size is just right, power is just right, and I'm glad I made the purchase. P.S.--did they change the console from 03 to 04? The gear shift lever only blocks the temp wheel and a/c button--it never blocks the radio for me.
Doesn't Feel Like a Minivan
Overall, this car was a perfect choice for me. I like that it is smaller than most other minivans. I have three kids and they have enough room to keep them apart. :) I love the way it drives. I find myself going faster than I should be, because it has quite a bit of engine power. On the downside, I have been surprised by the quality of some of the materials they have used. I have had one handle break on the back of the passenger seat. Other than that, I love this minivan.
Easiest choice I ever made
Nice van to replace our '04 trailblazer (nightmare car!). Great handling, peppy drivetrain, compact package, quality looking and feeling interior bits. Reliability has been great despite warnings to contrary-drove rental MPV for 3500 miles with no probs and liked it well enough to buy an 04 which now has 2000 mi on it. Stable, surefooted handling and silky smooth tranny make for a fun drive (in a minivan?!) Kids like roll down windows in side doors. People complain about shift lever in way of radio-no problems if you use controls on steering wheel (actually, no real problem anyway). We enjoy this van as much as our first Honda Ody but without the transmission problems of the Ody.
Good buy
We have only had this MPV for 7 months but we love it. It was a great value with rebates at the time. It is right sized, has good performance, comfortable ride, and looks good. The transmission is the weak point as it does not shift smoothly. The 200 hp engine is good for its size and weight.
Mazda MPV- Best Minivan- Period
Minivan for the sport family. We have 3 children who love the multiple positions of the rear seats, with 2 performance oriented adults driving. I recently hanged with a mustang and camaro at red light, how embarrassing for them!
Great Minivan
Great Minivan and Great Deal !. Fits in my small garage. Great ride and exterior. Fantastic interior. Smooth engine and transmission. Got mine with plus and 4 seasons packages for around 20K (incl. TTL). A generous trade-in allowance was an added plus. I might be a dad now, but I still got some "zoom- zoom" in me :-)
Great small minivan
My wife and I did a lot of research before buying this minivan. We narrowed it down to the Toyota Sienna and the Mazda MPV. The size of the vehicle was the primary concern because we have a small two car garage attached to our Cape style house. I drove both the Sienna and the MPV into the garage when test-driving. The MPV is smaller, and therefore was a more comfortable fit. When we test drove both vehicles, the Sienna had a smoother ride, but the braking was more laborious. The MPV felt more sporty, and the braking was much easier. The Sienna had slightly better gas mileage (1 mpg better). However, the MPV just had so many more features for less money - and all of that with a government 5 star crash rating.
great van, but....
This van is so fun and sporty! I had a Maxima before and this van drives just like the car did. I love it!
Great van overall
I have 3 kids. This van is a perfect choice. The price to own is the best on the market. The extended warranty from Mazda up to 100,000 miles is very reasonable and it gives you peace of mind.
Great Car for the money
We considered the Sienna and Caravan but found this was best deal for the money. We purchased our MPV in November after the birth of our second child. It is very easy to get the kids into and out of the car. My wife says it has changed her whole opinion on minivans and we are now considering buying a second one for her to replace her luxury sedan. We have only found one drawback I have the 17 inch tires and recently had a blowout due to road debris and was shocked when it cost me $160 to replace and I had to wait a week because the tire was special order, ouch!
2004 Mazda MPV Review
Compared to Honda, Toyota, Chevrolet minivans, the MPV is a much better value, especially for a small family of four or perhaps even 5.
MPV 2004
Horrible performance with this vehicle. Has been in for service 7 times within 2 years. 4 times requiring tow. Very dissatisfied with vehicle.
too small for this 6 ft. man
The ride of the MPV is wonderful. Very car-like. Unfortunately, if someone with legs is sitting behind the driver (if it's me), there's not enough room for both of us. The lack of room is my biggest gripe. We also have no Mazda dealer in our town of 46,000, so we have to drive it 45 minutes away every time the check engine light comes on, which is a lot. Then I have to drive it back down for the repair. It's a hassle. And for such a short van, the gas mileage is terrible, between 19-21 mpg. On the positive side, if nobody is sitting behind me and I'm not worried about mileage, it's a very nice car to drive.
Happy Owner
The vehicle has been a pleasure to own and drive. Its smaller size has proven to be a great asset, both in driving and garaging it. It is very comfortable, fun to drive and the gas mileage is surprisingly good. Its insurance ratings are good too, so the insurance premiums are moderate. It is a well liked and welcome member of our family.
No problems so far
The MPV is a great van overall. Handles well and looks sporty. We get about 17-19 mpg in the city with the AC on. We added fog lights and rear view mirror that dims automatically at night. The mirror has a compass which is very helpful.
Mazda fun
I bought the MPV bucause it was the best value of all others in the class. Love the extras. Good ride and power. I have had a Mazda for 12 years and have had good luck with them all the way. It is nice to see a Japanese car without the high price.
We love our MPV
The only thing that bothers me about this minivan is that you can't see the AC button on the dash because the shift bar blocks its view. Otherwise, I have never been this happy with any other pre-owned vehicle. I would upgrade to a newer vsersion without thinking twice when the time comes.
300000+ miles, a sporty beast
bought used in 2008 with 68K miles and has been a daily driver every since. Still going strong with original engine and transmission. It took a while to figure out the #5 & 6 misfires and several coil packs that I was dealing with the first several years. This was finally corrected with OEM spark plugs and replacement of some collapsed tube, forgot what it was. The driver window regulator was the only other thing needing replaced prematurely. Cloth seats wipe clean with a warm towel and looks new. It was around 280,000 miles that I replaced front struts and control arms. Still drives great and looks great.
Great Van
I have over 65k miles on my van now and still love it. Yes the gear shift lever is in a bad place and can easily be knocked out of gear but overall I am greatly satisfied. The only problem we have had so far is the coil packs are prone to go out which can leave you stranded (happened to us). Fits my family of 4 just fine with room in the back for all our stuff.
Mazda MPV - foreign car driving
This van drives and handles like a car. Very good acceleration and feeling of roominess inspite of smaller size gives you confidence that its size is just right. You simply do not need more.
Need to check this gem out!
compared to the Toyota Sienna this minivan is the best bargain for the money, easy and really fun to drive, and has enough room for a family of four. The ES trim has everything the Toyota and Honda has for much less. You need to check out this minivan if your shopping for a great family vehicle
Poor
Horrible gas milage. I drive slow and easy, and went through gas like it was water. Bought it bacause of the supposed great gas milage. My Ford F250 4x4 gets 10 times better fuel milage. Very poor mini van. Sold it a few months after I bought it.
