Avoid if you need tech pkg or visibility

Bought a new 2013 Maxda CX 5 touring with navigation a couple of years ago. Cute car and comfortable but absolutely no power, navigation system never worked right, couldn't load my full address book (just over 1000 contacts) but you can't add new individually either so that was a complete waste. They blamed my iPhone. BS. I had the most current technology for both car and iPhone. Bose speakers only work if you are listening to CD. Otherwise all music comes mainly through center speaker in dashboard so everything sounds distorted. Again, they blamed the source (Sirius XM). I was able to survive unhappily with those features but the absolute zero visibility became impossible and too scary for me. Backup camera was great tho. Finally decided to cut my losses and get my sanity and happiness back and ditched the car for the 2016 Subaru Forester. The tech and backup camera in the redesign make the 2016 amazing. Love!!!! Best decision I've made. Just wish it didn't have to be one of those bad life experiences where you lose thousands to learn your lesson. But avoid this car unless you are already a huge Mazda fan. At 5'2" I also couldn't clean the windshield because I was too short and there is a weird distortion in the window glass when sun hits it. Also, feel the edges of the steering wheel underneath. I sliced up my fingers on m a long road trip and Mazda had to file down the plastic. They checked and all of their steering wheels for the CX5 were like that. Huge flaw!!!!!!!

Worst Car Owned/Worst Brand Ever

Where do I begin? The fact that it was never working when I bought it and Mazda refused to repair it? Or the multiple times it stranded me? Or how Mazda wouldn't honor its warranty when the mileage dropped to 12, the gearbox failed a second time, the infotainment stopped working, etc? How's this: My friend bought a Mazda6 and recommended the 2014 Mazda3, which I bought. That car was a complete lemon with constant problems, so I foolishly traded it for the CX-5: Even more problems, more headaches, and less support from Mazda! Nothing worked, the dealer lied for two years, the car never got fixed despite a dozen unscheduled service visits and multiple breakdowns. After the umpteenth time catching Mazda reps in a lie, I gave up... BTW, my friend with the 6? His turned into an even worse lemon and got no help from them either.

My first Mazda - surprisingly impressed

I've had the car for about 2 years now and so far so good, it's very reliable in the worst conditions considering I still have the stock all seasons! The interior could use more leg room, my son who is only 2 years old is able to reach my seat with his legs already and he's only 3 ft tall. But overall I like this small cuv, it's very reliable in the snow might be just as good as my toyota fj cruiser in NJ snow conditions. Gas mileage is the best in class, exterior design is awesome for a car at this price point.

What a shocker. Our last four new car purchases had been Toyotas. We were lured in by the sporty look of the CX-5, and claims that its reliability was comparable toToyota's. The salesman hyped the CX -5's maintenance free transmission. About a week after our purchase, the transmission failed completely and required replacement. No support, no apologies, from the dealer. We won't be fooled again. Back to Toyota

Bought the 2015 Mazda cx5 because saw reviews and knew Mazda from the past. I am not very happy, sitting space is absurdly small I am 6' 0 And almost don't fit in the copilot seat, the back seats are too small, no space very uncomfortable, the radio is cheap, the air conditioning is very weak, with 80* takes 20 minutes to cool the space, not cold enough, the car is brand new so Why in the world will not cool down, not a good ac system. If I could go back in time, I would NOT buy the Mazda cx5, consumes too much gas, the rear seats are too small and basic

Great family car for young couple

Courtney K, 03/30/2017

We've owned this car for 9 months now and while there are some things I wish were different, all in all we do love this vehicle and feel like it's a great value for the cost. It's not your standard SUV; it's good looking, sporty, and very affordable for young couples who eventually plan on having kids and don't want to settle for a boring "soccer mom van". I was very much against big SUVs, but my husband needed more head room that a regular size sedan couldn't offer, so the CX-5 was a great compromise. It's a car I feel proud driving because of how sleek it looks and our friends compliment it all the time. There was also next to no learning curve going from our 2012 Ford Focus to this SUV. It's only a couple inches higher so you don't feel much higher off the road than in a regular sedan and I don't have any issues fitting into tight parking spaces. It has incredible handling and turns on a dime. I rarely have to do Y-turns to get around a tight corner. The only nitpicks I have are the 2.5L engine not being as "peppy" as I'd hoped. It does have get up and go but you really have to push it, and it sacrifices a lot of MPG in doing so. We get 25mpg in city and 30 on the highway which is not bad at all for a SUV if you're driving conservatively. There are unfortunately no air vents for the back seat with the Touring model, and this is an issue living in the Arizona desert. The upside is we have a white CX-5 and it's good at keeping the heat out. My husband's biggest complaint is that the base sound system is terrible. No bass and the highs sound muddy and distorted. Trying to increase the bass through the sound system just makes the speakers rattle with no improvement in sound. We chose not to upgrade to the Bose sound system based on the poor reviews. Despite all that though, this is a great car with great safety ratings and I feel confident that it will last many years and be a great family car when the time comes.

Downsized from 2010 CX9(260,000 miles) to CX5 GT-AWD and LOVE LOVE it!! Has all the room I need and I see up to 32.5 mpg on the road...avg 28+mpg. The ride and handling are amazing... love taking back roads in this thing...the steering is perfectly balanced! Interior details are WAY above the price point! Recommend this car to anyone who needs a bit more cargo room than a sedan and needs AWD in winter! Test drive one...you'll LOVE it!

When looking for a car with my parents, we looked at many great cars. We wanted a car that was reliable, had good gas mileage, had a lot room, and was an SUV. Some of our top choices were the Honda CRV, the Ford Escape, and the Mazda CX5. When we went to the Mazda dealership they were able to promise us all of the things that were on our list for the Mazda CX5. We test drove all of the car and they were great. However, for the price (about $30,000) and how much we loved it, it was clear that the Mazda CX5 was the winner. I have now been driving our 2015 Mazda CX5 for three years now and I can say that they nailed it! The Mazda averages about 26 miles per gallon which has saved me hundreds of dollars. The trunk and back seats are very roomie and passengers are always comfortable. The leather interior is just amazing! It makes you feel as though you’re in an expensive luxury car. I have never had to take my car in for major problems. I am extremely happy with the technology that mazda has put in the CX5 such as the navigational features, seat warmers, voice command, auto lock, some cool “active safety” features, and many more useful things. I drove from Utah to California and never got tired of driving it. The electronic system made it easy to switch from phone to GPS to music. The built in Bose sound system sounds fantastic. However, if you don’t want any music on, the car is extremely quiet. I love this car. My friends and family are very jealous of me when I take them for a ride. I would definitely recommend the Mazda CX5 for people that wants great gas mileage, an affordable price, and to feel like they’re driving a very expensive luxury car.

I have nothing but good things to say about the CX5. The exterior is extremely appealing; interior is comfy; handles extremely well, with a very smooth ride. The cost of the CX5 is much more reasonable than the luxury suv’s That don’t look as good or handle nearly as well as he CX5.

The good: Good gas mileage, no mechanical issues, nice electronic tools(Bluetooth, cruise, sound, etc) The bad: Seats feel like your sitting on a metal chair, not much leg room and minimal arm space. Better than economy class airplanes though.

I am amazed that anyone would say this car is comfortable, or fun to drive. I find it to be a utilitarian vehicle at best. Looks nice, handles well, Bose sound system is awesome, but it rides hard, it’s noisy, seats are miserable, and it’s just fatiguing to drive. On a long trip, the only thing I look forward to is getting out. To make matters worse, my CX-5 had a transaxle failure at 74k miles. There is a factory service bulletin on this and apparently 2014-2016 within a certain serial range suffer from this. I was lucky, as my CX-5 was still under the CPO warranty when this happened. All this combined, my experience with the 2015 CX-5 GT is less than favorable. To each his own, but I can’t wait to sell mine.

After two test drives and reading many reviews, bought a 2015 Grand Touring for price, have buyer's remorse. Positive features of the Mazda are not unique in the SUV field. Navigation system delivered with the car in December 2014 was not current. Free update took 8 hours to download/install including at least 8 trips back and forth between the car and my computer. The HomeLink system does not function despite many trips for resolution of issue - dealer basically gave up, and I gave up on the dealer. After two years, still no resolution by Mazda. Larger buyers be aware that the seats are too narrow/hard/uncomfortable. Had to make a pad to sit on. My 100 pound wife also had to have a pad. Mileage so far on mostly level highway speeds of 65 mph or less, is is 26, not the 30+ claimed. Steering is so responsive that you may drift out of lane if you glance at the displays. The 19" wheels/suspension provide a bumpy ride. After two years of ownership, with no resolution of "does not work" issues, I will not buy another Mazda. Recommend you consider Honda, Nissan, or Subaru.

I looked for over 3 months for a new car that I could purchase to replace our family van. I've been driving vans for 20 years and it is finally time to get something much cooler and funner to drive. I looked at all the CUVs and even a Mini Cooper Countryman. After doing much research I decided put purchase a 2015 Mazda CX 5 from Freeway Mazda in Ogden, Utah. First, let me say that it was one of the best car purchasing experiences I've had. Freeway Mazda created a pleasant car buying experience with none of the traditional high pressure gimmicks and they gave us a very good deal. They Mazda CX 5 is fun, beautiful, and and eye catching car. Everyone that I pass looks.

The car drives well for a used car. However, something that I didn't notice on the test drive was a warning notice that says higher rollover risk if you do excessive speeding for abrupt maneuvers. This has kind of made me nervous, but I don't do either of those things so I guess everything is good. I do see a lot of these mazda's on the road old and new and that eases my fears. However, I am driving cautiously all the time. Good overall used car with a lot of bells and whistles. 4 stars because of the higher rollover risk

Overall I guess the car is ok but the transmission is the worst I've ever experienced. It's quick to to gear down at the slightest incline yet slow to shift back ( 5 to 8 seconds sometimes longer). I took it back to the dealer the second week I had it and they told me it was fine. I drive on the highway a lot but can't use my cruse because of it.

I read everything I could about this car for months. When everyone praised the AWD model, I began getting dealers to match prices and discounts through Costco pricing. Out the door w every extra, including LoJack, white paint, and plastic coating, I paid $35,000 w Ca tax and license. I love this car. It's fun and simple to drive, mid range torque rocks, and the 9 speaker Bose system is fabulous w CDs, Sirius Or Bluetooth high level Pandora. Lots of power ports, even in the rear storage area. W 1000 miles now, we're going on a trek up the Ca and Or coasts in May, and then to Crater Lake. W the 70 LB Golden Doodle. Will report again then.
