Used 2013 Mazda 3 i Touring 4dr Hatchback (2.0L 4cyl 6M) Consumer Reviews
2013 Mazda 3 Hatchback 6-speed Review
This has been my first Mazda. I was going to go with a 2011 VW golf 6-speed, but the mazda had better MPG and better accessories already included for the price. Plus the mazda has much more room in it. I'm 6'5 and I fit wonderfully in the front seats. This has been my first manual ever driven and its been great! I bought it at 240 mi and within a month it now how 1,250 mi and the only problems that I had run into is a key fob problem, which is replaced under warranty, the boot won't close if you close it too hard, and that the back seats are WAY too small.
Good gas mileage, power, and reliability
I bought a used 2013 mazda3 2.0 liter with skyactiv technology in 2019 with 74,000 miles on it. It now has 161,000 miles on it and the only problem I have had is I just had to replace the power steering pump (but I also had an accident repaired on that area. They noticed the wiring to the pump was messed up). Other than that just oil changes, tires, and brakes which are needed maintenance on every car eventually. I see bad reviews and have to debate them on this car. 1st off, your experience with the dealership has nothing to do with the quality of the car. I didn't buy it from the dealership. So understand some bad reviews are about people's experience with the dealership and warranty, not just the car. 2nd, your judgment of a car is going to depend on what you are looking for from it. Yeah, the seats aren't the most comfortable but not bad enough for me personally to have back problems and I drive hours for work. Some days I drive 150-200 miles and I am fine. I bought the car for 3 things...reliability, power, and gas mileage and it provides all 3. It also has great space for my delivery jobs which I didn't have when I bought it. I have the hatchback and a nice feature is when you fold the rear seats forward you get a flat surface to the trunk floor. In the Elantra I used to own the rear seats were higher than the trunk floor when folded down. So now I have a nice large flat surface to place large deliveries in. I have fit about 50 to 60 grocery bags in this car for a delivery before. The car has pretty decent power for a 4 cylinder. I saw a review complaining about the car not downshifting to a lower gear at lower speeds. I can't speak to this because I have the 6-speed manual transmission which I love. Not a fan of automatics. So again, my review of the car will differ from someone who wants comfort, little road noise, and a good automatic transmission. As mentioned, there is a fair amount of road noise in this car, but again, I bought it for reliability (check), power for a 4 cylinder (check), and gas mileage (check) as I average 30 mpg's across freeway and town. Mainly freeway but I have gotten between 28-34 mpg no matter where I drive for the 85,000 miles or so I have owned it. If you are looking for decent power, reliability, gas mileage, space, and a fun car, I highly recommend the mazda3 hatchback. Which transmission you want is up to you. UPDATE: I bought a 2013 Mazda3 hatchback with 74,000 miles on it back in 2019. I now have 200,000 miles on it and the only major repairs I've had are to replace the clutch and power steering pump. Plus the clutch wears down on any car. Other than that it's been basic maintenance such as tires and oil change. I drive bith freeway and street and still average 29-30 mpg with 200,000 miles on the car. I've used it for doordash, instacart, uber, amazon deliveries, camping trips, long drives, and even naps here and there, as the backseat folds down and is an even level with the trunk. Lots of space and love the hatchback. Quite possibly the best cat I have ever had.

Very nice car. Looks expensive and handles great. Learning manual again but coming along quickly. Love the key-less entry and telescopic steering wheel. Stock stereo's not bad... Smooth ride for a compact.
Decent economy car
Of so many choices in the compact car market, Mazda's marketing motto has been "Zoom Zoom". Well, I bought into that hype but found the car to be just one of the economy compact cars. It gets decent mileage and it is fun to drive if you rev the engine and give up the mileage. You do pay a bit more than other compacts for the privilege of enjoying the "Zoom Zoom" - which is really about the car handling, not the acceleration. Interior is a bit old compare to Hyundai/Kia. The major surprise that I found is the terrible road noise. Don't know if it's the factory tires or the car itself, but this is one of the nosiest compact!
A fun little car.
I purchased this car for a delivery vehicle for my business. All the driving is in the Ft Worth/mid cities area in Texas. my drivers drive about 100 miles per day. In order to buy a car with low payments i only spend about ten thousand dollars on a car. The Mosda has a good reputation and this car met my price line. We maintain our vehicles well and have a history of putting several hundred thousand miles on a vehicle before replacing. For example we had a nissan pickup we put 400,000 miles on it before we donated it to a charity. We 400,000 on an Infinity Qx4 before donating it.
