It’s In The Heat!

I purchased a brand new 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara with a manual transmission in January of 2017. The reverse failed immediately. I could use it as long as I held the stick in place. If I didn’t, it pooped out of reverse. They “fixed” it last summer, but it didn’t fix. I took it back this summer to get it fixed again and it needs a new transmission, which is, unbelievably, NOT attainable. It’s been parked in the back lot of the dealership, in the desert sun, for 46 days and counting. I’ve filed a claim with the company and get a phone call once a week so they can inform me that they still have no ETA for a transmission. They are “hoping” they can get one in August!

Wranglers are UNSAFE and UNRELIABLE

I purchased a 2017 Wrangler in December of 2016. In 11 months it has been in the dealership 5 times. 1 month after I purchased it my son got stranded on a highway with NO POWER STEERING! A month later the clutch needed to be replaced. Yesterday was the 4th time it would not start and needed a new battery. The worst part about this is that the dealership did not stand behind their word. Be very very careful buying a JEEP wrangler. They are unreliable and made poorly. I lost a lot of money this last year on that car. I also paid $2,000 for an extended warranty- totally wasted.

I researched Wranglers and other SUVs. None are inexpensive so it depends on what style you want. Wranglers are fun to drive and they are old fashioned war horses. Contrary to professional reviews I read, my Wrangler is not noisy at all and rides very comfortably but with a good road feel. If you want a sedan-like drive with no road sense, go for it. But if want to know you're grounded but very comfortable, this is it.

Fun but not practical

The Jeep Wrangler is a really fun vehicle, especially if you would like to go offroading once in a while. We took ours offroading quite frequently when we got it only to find out that the mud and water from the offroading ended up damaging the transmission. We weren’t new to offroading by any means as we have done it nearly all our lives with vehicles other than the wrangler. There were some pretty hefty repair bills and mechanically the vehicle is sub par especially for the price tag. This kinda begs the question... if taking your Jeep onto the trails can do potentially serious mechanical damage to it what are they for? Pros: Good styling and appealing body Adequate for offroading (pay another 20k in improvements and equipment to really off-road) Fun to drive especially in standard Very easy to clean Easy to remove doors and the roof Great sound system The Jeep community AC and heating systems are phenomenal best I’ve ever seen in a vehicle Cons: Very noisy for all driving especially on the highway Very bad on fuel Limited passenger space Not very reliable Way too expensive for what you’re getting Embarrassingly poor stereo system with with poor functionality Very uncomfortable Ride Poor quality soft top will let you down Very underwhelming power will always leave you wanting more Manual transmission is fun but poorly engineered Braking distance will have you feeling unsafe You will almost certainly have it rained in at one point Loses excitement quickly Poor quality build will leave you feeling ripped off
