Used 2016 Jeep Wrangler Sport 2dr SUV 4WD (3.6L 6cyl 6M) Consumer Reviews
Still lovin' my 2016 Jeep Wrangler Sport!
This is a truck. Don't buy it if you are looking for a luxury vehicle with all the amenities. Also, keep in mind that the two-door Wrangler has a very small interior. If you intend on carrying more than two people, get the four-door. Having said that, the Jeep Wrangler is a blast to drive. And I'm getting used to the "Jeep Wave" from all the other Wrangler owners! I don't have to worry about getting stuck in mud, water, ice or snow - this Jeep is invincible!

My dream vehicle
My 2016 Jeep Wrangler Sport was ordered with air conditioning and trailer package as only options, keeping the price low! It is a solid, dependable. powerful vehicle that handles the driving challenges in rural northern Minnesota with ease. Gas mileage is around 18-20 mpg because I'm driving the vehicle as it is designed to be used, mostly on back country two lane no shoulder roads, often rough, 60 mph, slow down for surprise curves, animals, drivers, machinery, and small towns. After market add-ons are easy to install, affordable, and allow you to make it your own. It's steering requires a little more attention than the junk that is now called a SUV, the seating is for adults- not soccer intercity mom going to Macy's for Designer Jeans, and the ride is solid not designed for cruising the Hood or playing with your latest scratch and sniff IPod toy. I drove real military jeeps, in early 70's, and in 27 years of service found out that nothing was as good or dependable to replace it including the Hummer which was overpriced, overrated garbage. Safety, it's safe if you drive normally and like having metal protecting you instead of designer techno garbage that provides recalls every other week because it doesn't work and was made in Mexico/China. I have a 2013 RAV4 and traded in a 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport (5000 miles), which was preceded by 2008 GMC 1500 , 2004 Ford Ranger, 1998 Explorer sport, and 1998 Subaru Forester (All Purchased New). Averaging 100,000 to 120,000 per vehicle before trade in/replacement. They have all been very good vehicles, the Outlander was a mistake, highly rated safety, good mileage, and city based thinking resulted car that is useless outside of the city.

The Absolute Worst
I owned a Sport S for two years which I bought as a daily driver for bad weather - it's a hardtop. When the rain started, so did the leaks. I tried everything to fix them, new door gaskets, new freedom top gaskets, etc. Nothing worked and the only answer I got from Jeep and independent repair shops is, guess what, Jeeps leak (nothing like a footwell full of water on your way into work). It's drives like garbage on the road - offroad good, onroad bad. It's like buying and wearing ski boots all year round for that one weekend you eventually go to the mountain.

Jeep, just for fun
As cool and fun as this vehicle is, it is also a gas hog and terribly overpriced. It is a rough ride, hard to close the doors and small. On the flip side, it is a ton of fun to decorate and personalize. Accessories are inexpensive, for the most part. It is not my only vehicle so if I don't feel like wobbling down the road, I drive something else. Other Jeep drivers give the "Jeep wave", which is fun. When my pre-teen daughter is ready to drive, it will be hers because she loves it. It will be perfect for her.

Very poor build quality.
I purchased a new JK Sport in 2016. Within the first week, the door lock fell out of the driver's door. Then the check engine light came on and went off again soon after. Once colder weather came the jeep would stall when you put it in gear first thing in the morning (automatic transmission). It doesn't matter how long I leave it warm up. Until I drive it around for a while the engine will stall a few times first thing in the morning. In the summer it doesn't do this. From what I've read it's a common problem and has something to do with the torque converter. A few years in it developed a VERY soft brake pedal. I've had the garage bleed the brakes several times with no improvement. Again I've read this is a common problem. The check engine light continues to come on a few times per year and then goes out on its own. At the 6-year 100,000 km mark I brought it in for the annual safety inspection and it needed $2500 in repair. Rear brake drums, calipers, axel seals, ball joints, etc. The soft brake pedal issue remains (the pedal goes all the way to the floor). Now the wipers have stopped working. Well, sometimes they work, and sometimes they do not. Also, the red airbag warning light is on. Sometimes it goes out and then it will come back on again. The jeep is a fun vehicle to drive in the snow, and nice with the top off in the summer. We have done some mild off-roading which is nice but I definitely would not buy another Jeep, Dodge, or Chrysler product after owning this. UPDATE: I bought a 2016 Wrangler Sport brand new. The good? Fun with the top down, fun off road, fun in the Winter. The bad? Very poorly made. Within a few weeks of ownership the passenger door lock fell out. Luckily I found it and had the dealer put it back in. Then the check engine light came on. It later went out but comes on again a few times per year. Code says multiple misfires or something like that. When it's cold the jeep will stall if you put it in reverse. Once warmed up and driven for a while this goes away. The airbag warning light is on. Something to do with the passenger seat. The wipers work sometimes. Sometimes they don't work. Haven't figured it out yet. With just over 100000km the jeep needed $2500 worth of repair to pass the safety inspection. Ball joints, leaky axle seals, brakes, drums, etc. The jeep is fun at times but I would never buy another Chrysler product after owning this Wrangler. I'm 50 years old and have owned many new vehicles from different brands. This is the first time I own one that I would consider a lemon.
