3-1/2 years, still a great car

Bought my V6 GC Limited new in 2016. Now has 31,000 miles on it, and I still love it. 18-20 MPG puttering around suburbia (cold weather drops the MPG to 18), 26-27 on a trip. No mechanical problems thus far, and I still get compliments on the colour (Granite Crystal). It's a comfortable day-to-day driver and a fantastic road trip companion. I've towed a small trailer with it (for about 500 miles) and it did very well. My selling dealership periodically sends me e-mails offering me the sun and moon to trade it in, but I have no interest in replacing it. Other than another GC, now with Apple Car Play, there isn't a vehicle out there at any price that captures my interest. As long as it continues to be reliable, I'll continue to enjoy it.

Bought a '16, not a '15, because of similarity of vehicles, and better pricing and financing. My testament to the vehicle is that it replaces a nearly identical 2011 one we really enjoyed!

My Ford F150 SuperCrew struggled on the Girls Trip to the mountains, so I got this cool looking 2016 4x4, Recon Green JGC - Anniversary Edition. Rough ride! best for younger people. For all the $$,$$$ you pay I can't say its worth it. I'm 5'-8", it took some time and adjusting to get comfortable in the drivers seat. When I started getting all of these warranty letters, the windshield washer pump went out. Because I had a fender bender last year, I'm upside down. I could have turned my F150 into a 4x4. For the money, get YOUR DREAM CAR. Its cheaper to fly to Germany and pick up a BMW from the factory, a have 4 years no maintenance cost.

We drove a 2006 jeep that we bought used. My wife has loved this car since the day we bought it. Now that it was time for another vehicle there was no changing her mind. She wanted another grand Cherokee. She absolutely loves it!

75th Anniversary LEMON

John, 07/31/2017

In April of 21016, I decided to buy my first brand new vehicle. It was a toss up between a Jeep and a Subaru. These were the choices based on where I live and the harsh road conditions that exist in the winter. Well, I drove the JGC 75th and my wife and I fell in love. *My Jeep Grand Cherokee has the 5.7L V8 Hemi. It has all the tech and safety features that any high end vehicle and its a Jeep. The problems started in March of 2017. First the radio would cut out. It wouldn't lose power, the sound would cut out. Doesn't matter if it was BT, Radio, USB, the sound would cut out. Then the instrument panel would short out. At night you could see the voltage irregularity in the map lights and the brake/reverse lights. Since March, the Jeep has been in the shop 8 times with a total of 4 months at the service center. They have changed the alternator twice, the PCM, the battery, multiple radio updates and now its a voltage issue they are trying to correct. They have given us a rental, but it is not the truck I am paying for. FCA refuses to buy it back or make it right in anyway. At this point, I will not recommend any of their products due to their corporate policies on Lemons. The brand is great and the vehicles (other than mine) perform above average.

I've had continued issues with the remote start not turning the heat on and the heated seats and steering wheel isn't warm enough. I leased a '14 for 3 years and never had to touch an climate controls and my car was always toasty warm. This '16 is impossible to figure out how to get it warm with remote start. It been in the dealer 3 times with no problems detected. They say it's performing to standards. Well, the standard sucks. I alsoo despise the start/stop feature. If you forget to turn it off it and it activates it will turn off your heated seats/steering wheel and A/C in summer. I will move on from Jeep after this lease. The 40 degree or less setting on the heated seats/steering wheel coming on in the winter is also unacceptable. Its damn cold at 40-41 degrees.

front passenger seat is NOT power adjust on grand Cherokee anniversary edition? sluggish acceleration, to/from second gear. The sunroof control fails and engine shutdown to reset... vent stays open. Why is basic NAV map not free and included? highway mileage on flat land is 24+. The cargo area cover is not covering enough - invites thieves. No step side molding is too easy to kick/step on exiting or entering vehicle if you had side rails on previous vehicles. No warning on open gas, door specific - safety issue.

There is nothing like a Jeep

We bought this 2016 Limited - 75th Anniv edition with 80,000 miles, but all of them were highway driving and the price was reduced accordingly, making it possible to get a much nicer vehicle than the older Grand Cherokees we had been looking at. We sought out the 5.7L Hemi V8, as the V6 didn't really make us happy. We found that the V6 had "adequate" acceleration, but that was the best we could say. It had to work hard to get up to speed quickly, and was very noisy under full throttle. The V8 gets there faster, has great passing power, and for a rating of 3 MPG difference, we immediately dismissed the V6 and only looked at V8 models. We're delighted we did that. This is a very comfortable road vehicle, and we especially like the stable, low vibration ride and road feel due to the Mercedes-designed chassis. The controls and large touch screen work nicely, and the physical knobs on the controls are a nice addition. USB ports are thoughtfully placed on the front console and the end of the center console. The paddle shifters on the steering wheel are extremely easy to use, and their logic of operation is excellent. I actually like their setup and operation better than the functions on my wife's 2009 BMW 3-series! Three things remind us this isn't really a sporty or driver's car, it's a utility vehicle: first, the seats are pretty flat and there is a slight tendency to slide around rather than feeling well located in the seat. 250-pound guys will like it, but I miss the seats in my BMW 3-series (probably an unfair comparison.) Second, the gas pedal is a couple of inches closer to the driver than the other pedals, resulting in a slightly awkward "pulled back" angle for the driver's right leg. This becomes noticeable on longer drives, and there should be a "dead pedal" for the left foot so the driver can adjust the driving position to match. Third, the electrically boosted power steering conveys practically no road feel at all, and it's over-boosted and too easy to turn. Putting the Jeep into Sport Mode increases steering effort slightly, and that's what the normal steering feel should be like. I use Sport Mode in town because it provides faster throttle response and better engine braking, but on the road it would penalize gas mileage. I know that most drivers won't be bothered by these things, and the Jeep is so well made and solid that the overall comfort and driving experience is truly enjoyable. We've had no maintenance or repair issues yet, but all cars require periodic work, and we're not worried about it. The critical factors in a vehicle like this are the engine and drivetrain, and the Jeep's engine, transmission and drive axles are among the most robust in the world. We're looking forward to many years of Jeeping, as our last Grand Cherokee ran like a watch at 188,000 miles when we sold it. Update a year later: the GC has run faultlessly, and we've found that highway and freeway driving at 75-80 MPH can yield 24 MPG, which is excellent for a vehicle of this size. We love the Hemi's grunt when we need acceleration (or even when we don't, and just do it for fun.) The high gas pedal still bugs me, so I use cruise control whenever possible on road trips, as it's much more comfortable than holding my right leg in position for the high pedal. I have used the voice controls in the car, and they work reasonably well. We found that if you sync two cell phones to it, you have to designate a primary; if you get an incoming call on the secondary phone when both are in the car, it won't auto-connect and you need to answer the phone manually, without using the car's speakers and mic. I haven't paid for the Uconnect app functions, so I'm not using it. After you buy their car, they ought to provide app functionality at no additional charge. But overall, we really enjoy the GC and use it more than we thought. It turns out to be the perfect vehicle for 5-passenger trips, cargo hauling, or night trips when we want more elevation above other vehicle lights for our 60+ year old eyes. Update after 18 months: the Jeep is now at 100,500 miles and performs flawlessly. Highway driving at up to 80 MPH is usually around 23 MPG, although town driving is more like 16 (no surprise.) We have had no repairs at all. I'm getting ready to have all the driveline fluids replaced along with spark plugs since we just crossed 100K miles. The Grand Cherokee is really a do-everything vehicle, as it handles highway travel well, carries loads and can navigate any weather.

Moving from 2014 to 2016 GC

I bought a 2014 Limited V-6 with 20" wheels, sunroof, tow package two years ago with 113K miles. I love the way, GC drives and feels. It is very quiet at highway speeds, comfort seating position with great left foot room to stretch while driving. Build quality and interior material is much better than average. Its 25 gallon tank has gone 620 miles before fill up. I honestly can say that there is no SUV out there that has the luxury or the right feel of 2014- present Grand Cherokee. The remote start has an excellent range. My only complains about 2014-2015 Grand Cherokee are: 1) Confusing centering gear shift. No matter how much I watch and pay attention to gear shift selection, sometime I still find myself in Reverse instead of Park. 2) Thump-Thump noise from rear suspension! that is annoying. The 2014 one has 128K miles on it and I just bought a 2016 GC 75th year anniversary trim level with Luxury Group and tow package and guess what.... The shifter is a new version but rear suspension noise is still there.

JEEPS ARE JEEPS

I own a 2016 Jeep GC Summit and anyone considering a Jeep has to understand what kind of vehicles Jeep builts. I agree that the only direct competitor is from Land Rover, Why? Because they have to be true off road and on road vehicles and other mid side SUV's just don't qualify for that, the 2016 Grand Cherokee will laugh at Explorer, Traverse, Sorento, even the new Telluride and Palisade on off road performance and yes some will think of 4 Runner, well the GC will laugh at it on on road performance and that's exactly what we have to make clear here. The Jeep is focus on all rounded packages, our GC went from heavy rain to snow and off roading within a week and took everything with no problem and this is the Summit trim wich is more luxury oriented than off road. Equipped with the QuadraLift suspension and different terrain settings which are amazing IF you have use for them. Interior quality is top notch and do not underestimate the Pentastar V6 as I did, I had a 2007 GMC Envoy Denali with the mighty and greate all aluminum 5.3 V8 before the GC, the Jeep is faster and feels more alive. Jeeps are for people that appreciate Jeeps and they capabilities. If you want to save gas, or go extreme off road (except Wrangler on this coment) or just a calm, serene vehicle on road look somewhere else but if you want a vehicle that is able to take you almost anywhere and is comfortable on trips of 2000 miles one way like I have taken it is hard to beat plus let's be honest if you are looking for a 2016 GC is because we know they look fenomenal I got a Jeep instead of a Land Rover because they looked better to me. Calm on the road and monster on the trails it's got to be a Jeep.

2 months out of warranty the air compressor needed replaced. We bought it brand new and it only has 24,000 miles. We live in Pa. so it’s not like we used the AC all year. The stupid start/stop finally broke and it better not be part of State Inspection. It should be optional.

It's a jeep 4x4 and I plan on taking it trail riding after I build it up but what I just found out after I bought it is that the dealer forgot to tell me and I don't think the dealer knows either because it was a Honda dealership selling a jeep is that this Laredo isn't really made for off roading but that's not what I told them why I was buying it for and that's the only lie that they told me to sell it to me. Why make this thing a 4x4 if you can not do anything off road with it, that's really dumb. Right now it's a 5 star because I love this jeep but when I want to start to mod it and can not get parts to mod it because of its model that will change.

I bought this for my wife since they don't make Trailblazer her size. She loves everything about the 75th anniversary and it has saved her life once. This is the first vehicle I ever saw that went through 3 water pumps before 67,000 miles. After discussing with my tech and reading on line, the original will last longer than the new ones. The warrantee says it is good for 2 years after the original was replaced. So far this is the most expensive vehicle I ever had to maintain, and not I want another one.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel Review 2016

2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit 4dr SUV (3.6L 6cyl 8A)

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is well....GRAND. This automobile has tremendous off road capabilities, and interior luxury that beats many more expensive vehicles in use today. As far as the interior, I'm constantly amazed at the sound quality of the Harman stereo system on the Summit (did the upgrade and I'm so glad I did). The touch screen is intuitive and elegant by design with no glitches or lockups. The interior is of high quality and frankly the best I have seen in most vehicles of this price range. The seats are supportive and comfortable and adjustable. All safety mechanisms work as designed (stopped me from hitting a pillar in a parking lot at Target). I've driven trucks and other SUV's in the market and the driving character of most trucks or SUV's is well ...like driving a pick-up truck (unresponsive, floaty feeling ). This vehicle is responsive, road hugging and actually kinda sporty in feel. The ride is controlled and not float y like so many American SUV'S and trucks in the market allowing for a greater sense of control while going down the road. !!! Diesel alert, the technology for diesels can be well...not great in regards to "Regeneration" and city driving only. This is my worst complaint (not bad overall and works as designed). The regenerative issue applies to cleaning the exhaust system which at times requires you to "keep driving" to "burn" out the products of diesel exhaust from the elaborate diesel exhaust cleaning system. I believe this is to comply with EPA legislation ( thank god I do want to breath the best air). This notification comes with a "ding" and a message while driving in the driver "pod" (mileage, speed and other notifications customization by user ). While this "regeneration" is not a major issue, is something to consider when purchasing a diesel engine with the main usage of vehicle limited to city driving with short distances (wouldn't recommend purchase of diesel vehicle if you rarely use vehicle and travel less than 10 miles in any day with low speed low mileage). You would get frequently a message to "keep driving regenerative process" occurring while driving to the grocery store. That would be annoying. However, if you commute to work involves a moderate to long distance and you can travel at speeds > 30 miles per hour during your daily or not so daily commute, this vehicle might be perfect for you. The gas mileage for these commutes in a vehicle of this size will astound you and be much more advantageous and reduce the current price you pay at the pump for a vehicle of this size and abilities. "Regeneration" warnings and "need to regenerate alerts" should not affect the moderate to long commute commuters. These alerts will easily be handled if encountered in your normal commute. Also, the addition a DES (Diesel Emission fluid) will need to be added to the vehicle around 10,000 miles or so to aid the elaborate diesel system to contain its noxious emissions. The DE fluid can be bought at Walmart for around 24 dollars for half the needed amount or just topped off when you get your oil change . This is something that electric vehicles do not have to contend with. I think my Diesel engine will definitely last longer than batteries however electric engines are very reliable and will outlast my diesel. I have no range anxiety however. The engine is Italian and has been a smooth and reliable engine to date. The transmission is I believe German and smooth. The transmission has shift changes that are almost undetectable and sometimes undetectable (8 speed). Diesel advantages: oil changes and servicing is minimized in regard to the Gas based brethren. The Oil changes are 10,000 miles which is the recommended Oil change. I don't know of any car I have driven that would recommend that frequency. The engine is more "rough" when initially started...although this isn't that rough and feels like a 5 cyl when cold started. When heated and running the Jeep seems to run as good as any advanced 6 cyl engine and as good as some 8 cyl engines. The torque is phenomenal allowing you to leave the others at the stop light. This engine blows away most SUV's in acceleration due to it's natural diesel torque advantage (feels like a V8, if you are into that sort of thing ). Overall, I feel this vehicle is a great luxury SUV that's not too big or too small with advanced off road capabilities that are sure to impress with great gas mileage.
