2019 Jeep Compass Sport 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 6M)

Going 55 into a car full of teens who slammed on brakes suddenly so they didn’t miss their turn. No warning. Just a dead on almost full speed hit. My daughter and her 2 month old walked away without being injured. The Jeep didn’t crumple up into the driver, and the airbags deployed as they should, the hood and bumper is in smithereens. Thank you thank you Jeep! It’s a total loss on the Jeep but because of you we didn’t lose our children!

UPDATE: The compass has a beautiful design. It’s functional, sporty and elegant. We’ve owned this suv since new (April 2019). The only “problem” we had was the need to replace the stop/start battery. Everything else has been normal maintenance. I am old school so I change the oil(semi synthetic) every 4kmiles. We only have 17k miles on the Jeep. It’s my wife’s car and we use mine most of the time(a ‘20jeep Cherokee limited). We get mid to upper 20’s gas milage on the highway. 3/18/23 we’ve hit a whopping 14k miles. TheCompass was leased in March 2019. About 6 months ago we decided to purchase it off lease. Seems like it was a good decision since the SUV continues to run and ride beautifully. We don’t get tired of looking at it since it displays a classy, sporty, and luxurious look. We’ve had to replace the main battery along with the stop/start battery. Given the age it was expected. We had jeep replace the stop/start battery but went to Advance auto for the main battery. We saved over $100 and they installed it for free. The battery offered the same warranty as jeep but offered more power. We knew we are going to keep the compass so we purchased the battery with the longest and best warranty. Most importantly as this is my wife’s car, she loves to drive it and gives it a second look in the parking lot. We drive the compass all over…short and long trips, beach and mountains, and daily around town. 9/18/22…due to pandemic, milage is still very low. The compass continues to impress. Fairly quiet but not as quiet as my ‘20 Cherokee. Both the interior and exterior are holding up as new in spite of a break in where the front passenger window had to be replaced. My wife loves the Compass, so much so that we recently purchased the Jeep at lease end. It IS a pretty CUV. About the only missing accessory is cooling seats which were not available. We are in for the “long haul” with this Jeep. Although I just read about the “Jeepster” which my be an all electric replacement. If that one comes about, it’s a likely update for her. Given that she hasn’t put in fuel in her car in over 25 years, ( I do it) the electric version seems perfect. The compass is always garaged, I put Ceramic coating on it, and the oil is changed every 3-4k miles or 4-5 months. Absolutely nothing has gone wrong with the Compass. Her sister leased one the same did we leased ours. They bought it off lease as well with the same good fortune except they had to replace the start/stop battery 3 times. It seems to be fine now. Hers is the High altitude while ours is the limited. We like the standard features better on the limited. Besides the ltd has 1” smaller tires and the 9 speed trans. 3/17/22..Milage creeping up slowly. Just under 12k miles. Compass continues to be flawless. Someone broke into it a couple of months ago stole my wife’s purse a fob. Broke the passenger side window. In spite of insurance the ordeal still cost us $1000. The compass is a very brawny looking suv and fits my wife’s every need. The lease is up in a few months and we’ll probably buy it. The new ones aren’t much different and there aren’t any significant safety updates that would cause us to get a 2022. The compass is valued at twice the residual on the used car lot. Still wish it was a bit more quiet 9/17/21–unfortunately because of covid we are not driving either of our Jeep’s as much as we’d like. The Compass continues to feel new. We enjoy the good looks of the suv and that we don’t see one in every driveway. The white/gray interior looks new. Easy to keep that way. Continue to feel that the ending is a bit noisy and the Compass could use more sound deadening and front seat storage. (U believe jeep has addressed those issues in the new models. We have only 8500 miles on it. If my wife continues to enjoy it, we’ll probably buy it at end of lease. Our compass just had its 2 year birthday. We brought it in to check for a entertainment system upgrade at no cost. We had it inspected and the oil changed at 8k miles. Because of covid we hardly drive either of our Jeep’s. I also changed the cabin air filter. It’s complicated but straight forward. Carol really likes the Compass. She actually turns around to look at it when. she parks. It still looks like new. There are no signs of wear. We have our Compass 18 months now. We hhaven’t had a second of trouble with it. It continues to be enjoyable to drive. It’s my day. wife’s car And she is thrilled with it, but I drive it often. I have 3 concerns..The steering is too sensitive, the brakes are too sensitive and there is too little storage in the front seat area. The first 2 are manageable by getting used to the characteristics. The storage issue was managed by replacing the grab bar above the drivers head with an eyeglass holder and adding a “shelf” to the console inside the compartment. My sister in law got hers the same day we did and she too loves it. A long term friend in NJ just bought his 2 weeks ago. He’s enjoying it. We now have the compass a year with a little over 6k miles. We continue to love the looks...especially my wife... it’s her vehicle. The tech is amazing. We’ve had it on a couple of long trips and it performed wonderfully. No rattles or squeaks. Still don’t understand the negative journalist comments regarding the trans. The 9 speed always finds the right gear, shifts smoothly, and works great with the engine. No question Id recommend the compass and buy it again. The two negatives are the engine noise getting up to speed and the front seats are too firm. I’m spite of the glacier grey interior color, it’s been easy to keep clean. I’m going to replace the cabin filter after the pollen season next month. Jeep made it much more complicated then our 2015/2020 Cherokee. Not much to add since I wrote the comments below. Continue to thoroughly enjoy our compass. At this point the only negative is the engine is a bit noisy. I am comparing it the my 2015 Cherokee v6. The auto on/off should be on the dash instead on the console. In all other respects the Compass is great. Love the dual color interior and exterior. The ride is quiet and smooth. Re:mpg .. on 2 recent long trips I recd 29 mpg. I had been researching cars for quite awhile for my wife. Her lease was coming due. Looked at the Q3 and cx5. Couldn’t understand why the lease payment was almost double but the msrp was only a few thousand $$$ more. The math didn’t work. I looked at the updated version of our current car, Tucson, but we wanted a change after leasing 3 (9years). We looked at the encore, equinox and escape. I ruled out any cuv with a cvt. The Compass quickly rose to the top. I’m partial to jeeps as I currently own a Cherokee and owned a 2003 liberty for almost 10 years. We chose a white/black limited with a light/dark grey interior with every safety feature. We have it only 5 days but quickly bonded with it. When I mentioned the deal we recd to my brother-in-law he switched from the rogue ( they leased rogues for 12 years) to the compass for his wife. He hates the cvt too. My wife and her sister love the compass. Quiet, comfortable, easy to drive, well put together with nice materials, and smooth. Perhaps a negative is the lack of cabin storage, but there’re after market products that address this. Surprising that the home link feature isn’t offered. I definitely turn around to look at the compass as I walk away. A good decision???? Time will tell but we r off to a good start.

Nice Styling

This is my first Jeep since 2008. I had been owning or leasing Fords since 2012 and liked every one. But my lease was up on my 16 Fusion and there were no good lease deals at Ford. So I was shopping for a Cherokee but the Compass had a sweet deal so I took it. For the most part I really like it. I really liked the styling. The front seats are kind of hard but I prefer them that way. The interior craftsmanship was top notch , as was the body fit and finish. The car is also fun to drive. OK so here are the negatives. Tilt and telescoping steering wheel has very limited adjustments. The start / stop feature is annoying and needs to be turned off ( if desired )every time you start the engine. On is it's default. The radio must be on for the touchscreen to be on. You have mute the radio or turn the volume to 0 if you don't want the radio and want to use the touchscreen. My Escape's radio is independent of the touchscreen. Reliability is a concern. The vehicle's push button start failed 4 times the first 2 weeks I had it. Looked up online and it's a common problem. Dealer fixed it with a software update from a technical service bulletin. No problems since then. Time will tell. Overall I like the car but due to the above issues I had to down rate it.

2019 Compass Underrated

I love this car. I have had Fords, VW, Toyota, Kia and none came close to the material and quality of the interior i have been very impressed. I went into this car having low expectations but the ride is great it handles very well and is smooth. The technology this car comes with standard is great. I have the latitude edition and I’m blown away buy everything i have. Touch screen, leather, moon roof and so on. The only thing that bothers me is the turning ration. It isn’t great by any means. So no point for that. But give this car a good look and chance you’ll be very happy.

Jeep Compass trailhawlk

I like it, I live in Colorado and we can get weather out of anywhere; moreover, this is not an all-wheel drive it is a 4x4. There are a lot of autos out there that say they are a 4x4 but they are not they are all-wheel drive. Moreover, Jeep lets you choose 4x4 high or 4x4 low and the trailhawlk has a 4x4 crawl or super low. Also when you do not need the 4x4 Jeep designed all of it compass models to completely disconnect the 4x4 drive train, so you save gas and wear and tear.I have had this compass in every type of weather (except, hurricanes, tornados) and everything Colorado weather can throw at it, it keeps moving through it. I also like the start and go were the motor turns off when you come to a stop. This is my third Jeep and I never ever have had a problem with any of them. I choose this one for the gas mileage, because I drive out to my ocean lot every year on the coast. It may be assembled in Mexico but the motor and transmission are made in the USA.

The Compass is a comfortable car on the highway, it has sufficient cargo space, and it delivers excellent fuel economy considering its size (34MPG summer/30MPG winter). It has endured conditions as warm as 97F and as cold as -35F with no problems. The a/c keeps me cool in the summer and it starts every time even on the coldest mornings. Update. Now at 48,000 miles. So far no problem. I had a 2018 Compass that consumed oil (then got totaled). My 2019 was a replacement for the 2018 and doesn't use any oil at all. After wrecking the 2018 Compass I can say it is safe. Wife and I walked away with no more than a few bruises from the airbags deploying. I do a lot of driving in northern New England and the Compass is competent in snow but I strongly suggest getting genuine snow tires. The OEM tires are LRR tires and pretty lousy in snow. With snow tires the Compass is quite sure-footed. Two drawbacks: 1) It doesn't come with a spare tire. Any vehicle that might be used off-road ought to have a spare as standard equipment. As it is a person can't even order one -- they take the order and never fulfill it -- perpetually back-ordered. 2) There are no cubby-holes in the front seating area to squirrel away things like pens or pencils, cell phone, whatever. Two drink holders and pockets in the doors -- that's it. Oh, there's one tiny hole by the shift lever that might hold a few paper clips. I bought an aftermarket tray to fit in the console to hold miscellaneous stuff. Too bad Jeep didn't think of that. I bought my 2019 Compass after my 2018 Compass was totaled. I had some misgivings about my 2018 Compass because of it's high oil consumption, but I had a strong relationship with my dealer and risked buying another Compass. So far this one's been a charm. It doesn't use any oil and the drive-train is much quieter than the 2018. Update: Now at 65,000 miles and I'm still happy with it. Only repair was a plastic(!) sway bar bushing that failed and caused a significant rattle. I replaced the plastic(!) bushing with a metal one and I don't expect another problem with it. Overall I'm very happy with it. Update: August 2023. Now at 120,000 miles. Still no problems at all. Update: February 2024. Now at 128,000 miles. Intermittently overheating problem turned out to be a cracked thermostat housing. Problem solved. Update: August 2024. My Compass has made it to 130,000 miles with no significant problems. However, I did have the tranny fluid changed. Although the owners manual says the transmission fluid in the ZF9-speed is good for the life of the transmission, I feel that changing the fluid will extend the life of the transmission. One dealer said it wasn't necessary; another did it for me.

It's a perfect fit for me!!!! A smaller smooth riding SUV that's high enough off the ground, with 4x4, simple buttons to figure out and a nice sounding stereo (after adjusting the equalizer). I happen to love the off-white color, just like a vintage shabby-chic ceramic. 😉

We were in a 2016 Compass. We had so many problems with the brakes it was becoming ridiculous. I have owned Grand Cherokees and wanted something to tow behind my RV that was reasonably priced. We took the 2019 Latitude for a drive and were so pleased we took it home. It is NOT a power house but it has a great interior and easy to use Uconnect electronics. This Latitude has restored my love for Jeep. Update**** I have driven my 2019 Jeep for 18000 miles. I haven't had any issues which has been a pleasant surprise. I am hoping the reliability continues for a least another 100000 miles. Stay tuned! We just hit 36000we are flying without a warranty now, but still smooth sailing.

Good looking and capable small SUV. Easy to use and a good mix of features and price. Interior feels high quality. Do not feel the engine is underpowered but is a bit buzzy at higher RPM's. Brakes are also a bit grabby. Got 24% off of MSRP and so far am quite happy with the vehicle.

Bought it because the size was right and it is pretty comfortable. Yes the lack of storage, especially up front is annoying, but overall there is plenty of space. Yes it can be a challenge to get comfortable in the front seat, but once you do, it's very nice, even on long journeys. The drive-train is a bit of a let down, but only because of the 9 speed transmission. Once you get going it's fine, but that initial getting moving is awkward. That said, it is better than most other small SUVs I tested, including the RAV4 and Rogue which both are woefully under powered. If this was going to be my only vehicle, I would never have purchased it, I guess that says more than anything else.

Motor burned 2/3 of its oil in the first 3k miles. This will cause the vehicle to just shut off with no warning lights or sounds. Vehicle shut off while my wife was trying to cross an 8 lane highway. Jeep has decided that this is “normal” consumption as long as it’s less that 1qt per 1000 miles.

In April 2019 I purchased a brand new Jeep Compass Latitude 4x4 and from the next day my seat . ...my centre console ....my steering...the wheel alignment ....rubber seals and mouldings...rear light needed fixing..shiny black mouldings on outside of doors are loosening. Driver seat control panel broke off. I have Gremlins in my touchscreen / radio. I dislike Stop/ Start feature because that too has issues. The quality and good workmanship of this car....Basically the look of the car is it's only best feature. First and last time I purchase a Jeep Compass.

Rubbish from day1 of purchase

I purchased the Jeep Compass on 11th July 2020 and from day1 I didn’t get it home before the engine management light came on and fault codes PO686 and PO238 appeared on code reader. Was told at jeep dealership it was wiring fault then sensor fault and then finally fixed after 6 days and was told it was they replaced the turbo intercooler pipe. Drove it for 40 miles and engine management light came on again but this time fault code was p2002 dpf low pressure below manufacturers threshold. Taken back to Stoneacre cleckheaton jeep dealership for 7 days got back drove it 25 miles same fault code p2002 again so back to Stoneacre again and they did a static regeneration and gave it me back and advised of code came on again to take jeep on a 2hr run on motorway and this will clear dpf filter. 27 miles and code appeared again so took car on motorway for 3hrs and average speed of 70mph because it was midnight so empty motorway and code still showing so in the end I have rejected this car while I still can before I get stuck with it and it starts costing me money when they manufacturer warranty runs out. Shocking customer services too

Poorly Constructed and Uncomfortable Ride

This is my 4th Jeep. The previous 3 were Liberties. I've owned this Compass and it has been in the shop 5 times with multiple issues - particularly the tires. It is an extremely rough ride. You feel every crack and bump on the road, especially going down the Interstate at 75MPH. This is something I never experienced with any of my Liberties. The issues are so significant that I had to write the FCA CEO to get the dealership to take the issues I am having resolved. Even with that, the dealership spends their time making excuses for the issues as opposed to fixing them. If it wouldn't end up losing money I would get rid of it. There are some pluses in terms of the electronics, but not feeling that I can take this car on long-distance trips (1,200 - 1,500 miles) pretty much limits this car to driving around town. I would never purchase another Compass and would strongly discourage others from purchasing one. There is even an exposed area near the gas peddle that generates so much heat that after 20 or 30 minutes your foot is roasting and should it be touched by exposed skin, you will receive a burn. Stay clear of the Compass.

Be careful, it may looks great and has lots of safety features, but expect something being broken all the time We have fully loaded Trialhawk On second day owning it we had driver side sun visor dropped down on one side. In about a week it went into limp mode after being started with start engine button after engine being off by automatic stop engine function.... During first year it had gearbox liver got jammed, what was causing car not being able to start. Forward collision radar located close to road surface and was damaged by some road hazard..It was recalibrated, but first Jeep was trying to sell me new instead.. And it cost around $1400 Constant problems with automatic start/stop function. Which appears was about second battery dying.. It was replaced, and on second day after there was error with Start/stop... It had oil leak around 30k miles, which was fixed, kinda...and now has gearbox leaking at around 40k... And as cherry on top of the cake of problems - It's lift gate glass exploded yesterday on parking lot.. There a lots of things to love in this car though, but don't expect it have any quality....

2019 Jeep Compass Is A Lemon

This was my letter to all parties involved: Hello. After my nightmare yesterday, I do not want this vehicle. There has to be something that can be done. The service department is trying to wiggle out of this by claiming that the vehicle is was out of gas and that is the main problem. However, that was only a secondary issue caused by the first (electrical, software, etc.) Yesterday, I was driving. I smelled a burnt odor and the vehicle had never driven correctly since the first time that it was in the shop (shaking, weird at takeoff, etc.). After stopping at a light, I tried to take off when it abruptly stopped and put on the parking brake. (These are also all of the things that happened the first time as well and it almost stopped the second time; these are the details of the third time.) The screen stated to remove the parking brake to drive. I did that, but it did not work. I tried to turn the car off, but it would not respond. It stayed on, burning fuel, but would not doing anything else and everything was locked. Random lights would flash, but nothing would respond at all. (Of course, after a three hour nightmare, it would be out of fuel!) After a long time of this, the vehicle finally let me turn it off. However, it then would not turn on. Everything stayed dark and it was almost as if the battery was dead. This happened for a long time. Finally, it would turn on, but then completely freeze and not turn off again. Meanwhile, I was trapped in the car for three hours (couldn't get out in a high crime area and was also afraid of the doors locking while I was outside because of the strange electrical issues). Police were passing and threatening to impound the car. I seriously thought that I was going to die yesterday. Yet, your service department still wants me to take an "iffy" car because it HAPPENED to start today after they put more gas in it. (Again, it had gas when the issues started - but the car is very tentative... it starts and stops when it wants to do so and it doesn't necessarily have a reason). Please fix this situation. If yesterday would have been a winter day, I would be dead. I would have frozen to death. If the car stopped on a train track, I would be dead. If the car stopped while I was driving 70 MPH, I would be dead. I am fortunate that God kept me alive for those three hours, but He also is giving me the wisdom that I should NEVER enter that car again. That car is a death trap. Again, please fix this situation. Do not allow your workers to use minor things such as gas and oil in order to kill their customers. http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2018/jeep/compass/engine/problem.aspx Read this link. Avoid this vehicle

I rented a 2019 Compass for about 9 days and drove it 3000 miles in combined city, suburban and highway driving. While it is comfortable and handles well, there are serious issues. The engine is pitifully weak for a vehicle this size and is a safety hazard on the highway if you need quick acceleration to avoid a crash or just to merge with traffic. Jeep should consider adding a turbo to this 4 cylinder engine to make it at least reasonable. A number of times the vehicle refused to start and I had to call roadside assistance to get it to turn over. Apparently the electronics have a fault that lights up the dash but fails to respond to the push button starter. This happened twice in the space of a few days. Supposedly Jeep has a software update, but there are many complaints onliine where owners have had the update applied and still end up getting towed because the vehicle won't start. I figured out that you must lock the vehicle every time you get out - even to pump gas or it may fail to start. Then there is the REALLY annoying engine shutoff every time you come to a stop. I ended up shifting into Neutral at every stop so the engine would keep running. Overall performance is not smooth, with bad shifting intervals on the transmission and terrible acceleration. Not an impressive vehicle at all and the Compass is outclassed by just about any of the foreign manufactured SUV's of the same size.

The compass is well-appointed, comfortable, and drives smoothly. The only downside is it has a 13-gallon tank. If you drive much, be prepared to gas up frequently.

I’ll start with the pluses- the technology is great. I like that it automatically turns on the heated seats and steering wheel. I like the connection with my iPhone, maximizing the use of navigation. The drawbacks- while it turns on the heated options when it is below 40, it often malfunctions and cites the outdoor temp incorrectly. So during the summer, my heated seats turn on automatically. While I like the keyless option, it malfunctions. I can’t always open the doors or even start the car. “Key fob not recognized.” I can’t always use the phone options, like navigation. My phone is not recognized, yet when I try to go to settings, the phone is connected. In my career, I am a technology troubleshooter. I pair a phone to the car’s technology. It is paired, but works intermittently. My final complaint is that the door seals suck. When I travel on the highway, the seals are so bad that I have a steady, loud breeze. My car has been in zero accidents, that would account for this. The door is flimsy. I can push and the draft increases. I guess another plus would be that I have satellite radio and the speakers are decent. That makes the noise less troublesome, but now winter is here and it’s cold. I hate this lease. I would not recommend it.

I like the style, the interior is attractive and comfortable seating. It is roomy inside. it drives smooth and handles very well in a lot of snow. I had to drive up in my driveway which was packed with snow and my Jeep drove up as if there was no snow at all. It's also fun to drive. The only 2 things jeep should fix on the compass is to enlarge the storage space in the back and do something about the take off problem, sometimes it is a little bit sluggish. If jeep fix those 2 things jeep will be number 1 in my book. This is my first jeep. In the past I have owned 2 Cadillacs. I still have the Cadillac cts, but it's sitting in my driveway because I am enjoying driving my new jeep.It almost drives like my Cadillac. Jeep people keep up the good work and make it even better. I bet you will see many more people choosing jeep over the foreign suvs.

After getting into two accidents in my little Nissan versa I made the move to get a car I feel more safe riding around in. Caught between the Cherokee and Compass, I ultimately drove off the lot with my new Compass Sport! I absolutely love it. Its the most basic of all the models offered which I had no clue at the time so I definitely wish I did more research. The engine /acceleration is definitely not serving this car justice. The handling is smooth, has moderate tech features, and decent mpg.

At 30,000 miles the dealership informed my tires were gone and I needed to replace all 4! I did and did a alignment at 46,000 I was out of town doing a Festival and stopped for gas and my Jeep wouldn’t start…A gentleman came over to were I was stranded at the gas pump and jumped me off and and did a diagnostic on it and informed me my break pedal sensor was out and it would kill my battery and for me to get to my safe place before turning it off,not thinking abt the stop and go at the red light it cut off and wouldn’t crank again so I had a guy push me off the road to a safe place.Got back home took it to my mechanic cause Mc Sweeney dealership informs my warranty ended at 36,000….A new brake pedal release button and $354 battery later I get my Jeep back and my dash board is lit up with warnings service engine service hill holder my traction light stays on my cruise control isn’t working properly I set it and it won’t shut off when I put on my brakes*** so this tells me it’s to do with the brake pedal sensor I replaced…My sunroof won’t open at all yet my dash lights work.Got to gas station last week 2 mths after replacing the part and my tail lights are out and my car won’t start again!I drive 88 miles a day to work and I’m not happy about this been waiting on replacement part for 5 days !

I've had this car for about 2 years and I purchased it because I live in a mountain region where we get a lot of snow during winter. I can say this compact crossover with its awd terrain select was more than what I expected. I was able to get through some icy roads and snow with ease and even better when I had upgraded the tires to falken wildpeak at3w. But I will say what I didnt like was most of my expenses was going into gas. This may have a small tank (12-13gal I believe) but it would only do about 260-275 miles which was as much as some larger SUVs i had so it wasn't a benefit as I had spent almost $4,000 last year alone. In the end, I traded in the vehicle for something economical. If I'm going to spend that much in gas I might as well have gone for the grand cherokee or even just an old XJ cherokee if I want 4x4. Until they bring the 4xE variant to the states I wouldn't recommend this vehicle

Good little SUV. My only complaint is that there are too many gears in the auto trans, but thankfully you can use the sport mode. It’s given good service with a lot of comfort. Mileage has been good for a 4wd. Had several minor glitches with the integrated infotainment system and it was replaced under warranty. I’d like it better if my model was available with a 5 or 6 speed manual gearbox.

I loved my Jeep at first, but 3 years in and not even 70,000 miles and it’s been in the shop 5 times since July. Had to replace both batteries and the starter all at once, just to still have issues starting it. It’s my first and last Jeep

Better than the Patriot

I drive this vehicle often, it's my work vehicle so mostly HWY miles. Coming from the Patriot it's a step up. I had some issues with it, like the heat control want put out heat at times, vibrations that can't be fixed, the delay when you press the gas pedal and it decides to go is annoying. Gas MPG is about 28 which for 4 cylinder should be better. Headlights at night are pitiful. I will be putting on some big miles on this vehicle i drive over 25K a year so stay tuned.
