Used 2018 Jeep Compass Consumer Reviews
2018 6 Speed Manual 4x4 Latitude Compass
I looked for a manual transmission Compass because I did not like Auto Engine Start Stop as a "feature" and I heard bad things about the 9 speed auto. So far I have been happy with the the Compass and have had nothing go wrong with it since picking it up at the end of August. This Jeep feels solid and well built. The interior material feels pretty high quality with no squeaks or rattles. The 4x4 systems works great in the snow and I have tried it out a few times with no issues. So far I am getting around 22 mpg with mixed in town and highway driving. My huge complaint with the car, and I am rather shocked that this is an issue in a modern vehicle, is the lack of storage. For a car with Apple Car Play, where am I supposed to stash my phone? There is a small net pocket on the passenger side of the car that I can put my phone in but to be honest it is a joke. I cant imagine if you had a Iphone X what you would do. There is no sunglass holder, this is a pain and annoying. There is no garage door opener, kind of shocked since this is a Latitude. The Jeep actually drives well for having electric power steering and feels well planted at high speed. The 2.4 Tigershark does use oil, it should be checked once a month. So far my engine has used 1.5qt in 3000 miles. I blame the new ring design on the pistons and the required 0-20w oil.

Major problems with 4 wheel drive.
There is a major design flaw with the 4 wheel drive and the blue tooth on the radio has a poor connection. The first time the 4x4 had a issue I was driving in the snow and a loud banging noise started coming from under the vehicle. The dealer "fixed it" 2 weeks later it happened again this time they stated that its a known problem with the rear axle engagement with the 4x4 system that causes the driveshaft to strike the undercarriage of the vehicle. I was told there was no repair available yet and they did not know when one would be available however it was safe to drive. 2 days later the issue happened again however this time the rear axle locked up causing me to loose control of the vehicle and nearly miss a accident. At the time of this review the dealer was trying to find a fix with Jeep and the part of Jeep that handles Lemon law initially contacted me and has since been unreachable as they refuse to provide real names, email addresses or direct phone numbers. Jeep does not stand behind their product and this vehicle is dangerous to drive however they refuse to admit anything is wrong. This problem is also currency occurring on a 2nd Compass at the same dealer.

Stay away from this vehicle
This car does fine on a test drive, after that it isn't worth owning. The Compass is very noisy, low quality rubber around doors that falls off often, very rough shifting, has super small pedals that are far too close together causing feet to catch on other pedals. The clutch pedal sticks up too far but needs slammed against body to engage. Dealer will offer to put a block on pedal: which only raises pedal further to driver. There is no head room getting in and out so you will constantly bang your head. To put the final nail in this junk, the resale value is horrid even with only 5000 miles. Walk straight past this make and model, do not even give it a moment of your time. It is a decision we fully regret and are now stuck with: no option out of it with out adding thousands of dollars more in down payment. ****UPDATE = GOT RID OF IT!****

Burning oil on new motor
We bought our '18 Compass new a little over a year ago. At a little over 4000mi, it stalled several times without warning. Got it running and took it straight to the dealership. Come to find out, it was about out of oil. Had to have an oil consumption test done. Results were it is burning a quart and a half of oil every 3,000 mi. The service department said I may need a new engine. I did get a new motor. Apparently this Jeep along with others that have the 2.4L MultiAir engine are burning oil at an excessive rate. This could be dangerous if you're not aware and have it stall on a busy road or highway. Service department said they have replaced 15 of the engines since the came out in late 2014. Can't believe nothing has been done about this. FCA apparently sees this as no big deal and approving the replacement motors is no big deal. If you drive one of these, look into it. Check your oil. 11,500 mi total and 3000 on new motor. New motor is now also burning oil and going through the oil consumption test again. Can't do anything about it because it's still under warranty. This is absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. A waste of time and a huge inconvenience for my wife and I. I will never buy a Jeep again. I'm not the only one. Someone, somewhere, and don't care who needs to do something. I have tried but I'm just a number. New motor is now holding oil. Time will tell.
